Probably the best bowler in cricket history died today at the age of 52.

I’m not normally particularly affected by the passing of famous names, but this one has resonated more, probably because of the similarity of age, and his iconic status

He was also one of the best colour commentators after he retired: was to cricket what Tony Romo was to football.

RIP Shane Warne.

Maybe slightly more famous in the US, the guy who played Rickard Karstark in Game of Thrones shuffled off this mortal coil too.

Not some one I was aware of, but it’s sad when anyone dies relatively young

Man, seeing this was a jolt this morning, only 50. He was always very open about his struggles with substance abuse, and while any cause of death this young is tragic, I hope it was not from a relapse.

This one sucks.

I love this Big Me performance from Letterman. Watch the end with Dave G. messing with him to close the song out.

I was playing cards last night at the MGM when I saw the message hit my twitter and I had to stop playing, it was like i got the hardest punch in the chest ever. Knowing what Taylor meant to Dave, what he meant to the Foos as a whole, it's a catastrophic loss. I can't picture a scenario in which they continue as a band - maybe if Nandi was 10 years older, but even then. Godspeed, Taylor, I hope you are at peace.

Yeah, this one's a real gut punch. So young & full of energy.

Selfishly, I also continued to hold out hope that if Alex & Geddy wanted to do another Rush show, Taylor would be a more than adequate stand in for Neal. Now they're both gone....

Maybe this one is someone who should have been more famous than she was. Joan Joyce, head softball coach for Florida Atlantic, passed away over the weekend at 81.

She was one of the greatest female athletes in history. She was an amateur and pro softball pitcher for over a couple of decades, starting at age 14, with over 150 no-hitters and 50 perfect games, plus she struck out Ted Williams and Hank Aaron in an exhibition. She was a star volleyball and basketball player. She played on the LPGA tour for nearly 20 years and still holds some records. She was FAU's SB coach for nearly 30 years, half of which she was also the school's golf coach, and finished with just over 1000 wins.

It's crazy the types of people we just don't know. With a resume like that, she's absolutely one of the biggest female athletes of all time. And until this thread, I had never heard of her.

Not towards her, but for the rest of us: It's also probably a reminder that trying to look for fame in this life is probably less of useful pursuit than just trying to impact people on an individual level.

Norm McDonald, Bob Sagat, and Gilbert Gottfried. All three of those guys were comedians who had such respect from other comedians.

Comedy is one of the more subjective art forms. So it can be hard to rank or quantify comedians. But whenever you heard comedians talking about other comedians, these guys always came up as dudes who has such respect from inside the profession. They understood that there was just . . . something about their approach that really spoke to whatever it means to truly be a comedian.

I think Gottfried was the only guy who got cancelled without doing anything sexual. Which is just a testament to his comedy genius.

Damn, only made it a few weeks as the last surviving Seinfeld parent.

I've heard her talk about James Dean. Here's what she looked like at the time:

Could be, but I found that one side-by-side in a twitter post with late era Mom Seinfeld.

I'm just going to accept it as cannon.

Or, I'm going to post several more photos of Ann Sheridan.

Could go either way.

Naomi Judd dies at 76. It sounds like sucide. The Judds were going to be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame tomorrow. This just hit me hard for some reason. I lost my mom last year, and she loved the Judds so much.

Ugh, I hate hearing about suicide, there's often an abundance of emotional pain for the person that precedes it and the people around them question if they could've done something different.

Having been close to someone who committed suicide this is accurate. It is gut wrenching and stays with you forever.
