For the record, I have always said that Alex Smith was nothing more than a backup QB. My argument is that Troy Smith is, at best, also a backup QB. The thing that bothers me is how so many fans get overexcited about anybody who isn't Alex, regardless of whether he's actually a better option.

In re: to the first TD that was called back, you'll see the defender that was covering VD give up as soon as the ball was snapped (in other words, Davis may, or may not have been covered it if weren't for the penalty). In re: to the second TD that was called back, as mentioned before the throw left quite a bit to be desired. It was a fantastic play by Crabs though.

Amazing catch by VD! (Terrible throw by TS).

Holding? Big Surprise

Wow. Another penalty? That was an insane catch by Davis. And yes, that was a pretty awful throw.

For all the criticism the 49ers have received, that was some nice play-calling to make up the 3rd-and-33 in two plays, and then throw a dart for the touchdown.

Solid job there.

Very impressive drive.

Does this remind anybody else of the late, very impressive go-ahead drives that Alex Smith led earlier in the year, only for the defense to crap all over themselves and give up the game?

I've been pretty impressed with the play calling since Raye has been gone. It doesn't have to be crazy, just mix it up a little. Which he's done admirably.

Eli feels his pain.

In fact he feels it so much he decides to mishandle the the next snap and lose the football.

Wow. The Niners defense is so atrocious when trying to win a game late in the 4th.

Thanks for calling the timeout with 29 seconds left Rams. Piss poor clock mgmt there. Rams must have been watching too many Niners games on film.

Nice job in killing your last timeout there Sing. That way if we get a great kickoff return, we'll have no chance of lining up for a FG.

Wait a sec. How did the clock get down to 3 seconds?

Jackson asked for a TO after he was tackled and the official gave it to him. That was with 29 seconds left.

How did the officials magically evaporate 26 seconds?

There was no time left in the game. Can't really blame this on Singeltary. Icing the kicker is pointless but the timeout didn't serve any other purpose.

I'm guessing that the FOX guy controlling the TV gameclock botched the timing of the timeout.

Jackson caught a pass and nobody stopped the clock.

Yes, just rewound to watch this and saw that the clock was running and Fox just didn't run their clock.

If the Niners get the ball, I think they'll win. That's a big "if" though. Judging by the play of the St. Louis DB's, it would only take a couple jump ball passes to VD/Crabs/Morgan.

There must be something about "get away" the SF special teams players don't understand.

The announcers seem like they have stepped it up a notch (and not in a good way) once this game officially went nationally. They were very dry throughout the game and now they are acting overly excited about every play.

I love that both teams have more penalty yards than rushing yards.

I do have to agree with Sun Tzu that announcers really do have to cut the Troy Smith lovefest down.

Odd that when we pass on 1st down we move the ball, but now we're going back to the old three and out gameplan of run-run-pass.

I love it sometimes and think its annoying sometimes but he is consistant. These guys are just acting excited now that its overtime.

Remember, every W means that Mike Singeltary is more likely to keep his job as head coach next year.

IMO, short of a 6-1 finish the rest of the way, there's no way Sing will be back in 2011 (or 2012 w/ the work stoppage).

Giants got what they deserved today. Just a sloppy, uninspired effort. Still, coming off a 5 game win streak and sitting at 6-3 I can't complain to much.
