Wednesday, September 25th, 2041: Jones Gets #300
It was a historic day for Ann Arbor's fine catcher Tex Jones. He slammed home run number 300 in the Winged Lingerines 14-5 loss to the Hammersmith Hooligans at Ann Arbor Grounds. He told reporters after the game, that he was disappointed in losing the game. "It's great to get that many homers, but I don't play for homers -- I play to win. That's the name of the game." In his milestone-making game Jones went 2 for 5, scored 1 run and collected 2 RBI. That home run put him in a select group of ballplayers. In his career Jones has compiled a .267 batting average and collected 1505 hits, 300 home runs and 1021 RBIs. |

Is Weston Martin trying to make a push to become probably the only pitcher ever to win a second Prado award without ever being an All star once in his entire career?

Thanks Teach! It's nice to actually not only get into the playoffs, but sorta unexpectedly breeze in. My history in FOOL much more tends to doing it "the hard way", so this season has come quite out of nowhere. Or five years later than expected, depending on your perspective.

Tuesday, October 1st, 2041: Newark's Tomlinson Collects September Batting Honor
Adrian Tomlinson battered Continental League pitchers all September and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award. "I've been around Front Office Offseason League long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 29-year-old Tomlinson told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I may not take the field and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month." In 24 games, Tomlinson hit .416 with 2 home runs, 16 RBIs and scored 22 runs. In 150 games this season Tomlinson has batted at a .320 pace with 195 hits and 12 home runs. |

Not with a 4.21 ERA, he ain't. Still, Martin has been very good for me. His strange poor year last year was probably the primary reason I was watching the playoffs from the virtual FOOL golf course last season.

You're an Angels fan, Teach? Man, I didn't think I could like you better than I already do. Yeah, Angels fan since 1979, when I first really conceived of the fact that my Dad, a diehard Dodgers fan, was trying desperately to hide from his three boys the fact that there was another team in town. It worked for two of them, but I was always the black sheep. I suffered through Angels baseball history for some time before that amazing 2002 championship. One of the best World Series no one saw.

Okamoto has an outside shot of the triple crown, but might have it ruined by his team mate Pichette who oddly enough also has an outside chance of a triple crown.
What a weird scenario! "Broadway sJoe" could possibly be another Rookie Prado Award winner in the RL. Will he get snubbed for the Myers Award? Okamoto is on pace for 175 RBI, Pichette on pace for 171. Only two players in FOOL history have ever even hit more than 165 RBI in a season: Felipe Aguilera (twice) and Frank Dawson (once) |

I have many stories about how I became a fan but I was actually born in southern California and I have newspaper articles written about my great grandmother who lived to be 108 claiming her to be (at the time) the oldest "Anaheim Angels" fan. They brought her to the stadium and made her her own jersey with her last name on the back which she was actually buried with (I know!). |

Is Okamoto and Pichette the best two hitters on the same team in the same season? Or are they topped by Dawson/Santos from a few years ago? Probably the latter, but damn the Opie show has been impressive.

The franchise record for wins is 107 by an amazing Firecracker team in 2009 that was so good, the league was broken up to stop them from dominating (addendum--initial franchise Charleston Chew also won 107 games in the "AI years" of FOOL, in 1963).
That one's probably out of reach. Would be nice to get to 105, though, the Hooligans' season record, reached in 2020, led by Hasegawa and Valdez. I'm still stunned to this day that team didn't win the trophy.

Oh, I figured you must be a Phillies fan. Now it all makes sense. You're an anti-Dodgers fan! All right, you can root against us. I understand that. That said, I'll bet you'll agree that was one of the most exciting World Series ever played. I think if the Giants ever figure out how to get some offense, they could be pretty good. They weren't that far off this year, and they didn't have any bats going at all. I have been meaning to go up and catch a game at Pac Bell. Haven't been there yet, looks great and I have heard great things. Oh, and I might take the BART across the way to piss on the side of the Coliseum before going home.

Man, it's crazy how great the races have been of late. You said it best in the last VI, Alan. Parity has really come out and grabbed both leagues. I think it's a testament to the quality owners we have in the league. Everyone knows what they're doing and are trying hard as hell to make it happen.

Ooh, just checked the schedule. Hyannis is coming to my place to finish the season.
Not an easy finish for Hartford either. They host New York.

If somehow we managed to sneak into the post-season, it'll be the first time I've ever won a wild card in FOOL. I did it once during my time in FOOL-X and it coincided with the only time I lost an LCS in a FOOL league.
But I think I'd rather be on the inside looking out, than the other way around. In any case, good play by everyone regardless of the outcome. |
