The 2 calls during the Florida/UM game were very well done. They reviewed each targeting call and deemed them not targeting.

I thought those were done very well.

Like you said, reffing is so subjective. And, honestly, I think the refs are trying to stay out of the Ala/FSU game as much as possible.

There's the upset for the day, Liberty 48-45 over Baylor. I like Matt Rhule, but he's got a lot of work to do on the defensive side of the ball.

Shouldn't they just self-identify as D1 and that be good enough?

(Sorry, the use of the word transitioning considering the school in question made some sort of joke almost obligatory )

FSU has a top 5 defense, a 130th ranked special teams unit, and a true freshman at QB for the foreseeable future. 8-4 is now the likely result.

100 dollars on Howard to win would have paid 55,000. Biggest upset as far as odds go, in CFB history

They need a guy in there like Tark or Petrino. Damn the red flags, damn the rules.

I saw Howard was up at half but then UNLV took the lead early second half and figured they had turned it around.

Completely missed that ECU lost by 20 to James Madison. Scottie Montgomery might be a 2 season coach if he doesn't fix that right away.

It is. They took a lot of money from the Fertigs and hired the Bishop Gorman coach.

That was Mike London's debut as the Howard coach. Apparently FCS coaching is his thing.

The problem is that Gorman didn't have to go by any recruiting rules like UNLV does. Gorman has been pulling in talent from other states for Sanchez (and now his brother) for a long time and now he can't cheat the same way he could at the high school level.

He was given a 3 year extension before the AD left this summer so he's here through 2021 probably. Cam Newton's younger brother tore them up last night. Shooty hoops can't get here soon enough but at least they didn't change the logo... aw crap...

I wouldn't even call it cheating, high schools can recruit out of state no problem.

In what state?

High Schools under any jurisdiction I know of are not allowed to actively recruit. The out of state work around is that a transfer doesn't have to sit out, so yeah, a parent could talk to a parent and say they think coach _____ would love to have a kid like yours, etc, etc.

High School Football has gotten dirtier every year I have been involved. Those willing to do the wrong thing because glory is more important than ethics amount to a small minority of coaches, but are doing a lot of damage per capita.

I know it's against the rules in Georgia to recruit from another in-state school. Off hand I'm not sure it's prohibited to recruit out of state however. You can't offer benefits, but ...

Then again, realistically, the top programs really don't seem to have to do much recruiting once you get there. Not sure "build it and they will come" is more true anywhere than in HS athletics. And I'm not really bothered by that.

The only reason we're where we are is because a school here offered a better opportunity for my child's needs & abilities than where we were. In our case that was academics but, if we're acknowledging that kids have talents in different areas, I'd be loathe to do much to restrict a talented athlete or musician or whatever any more than I'd restrict the opportunities for a talented scholar.

Francois reportedly done for the year, patellar tendon surgery coming as early as Tuesday according to various accounts.

Meanwhile Bama lost a starting LB for the year AND a backup LB for the year.

The high schools in my area allow free transfer, and what amounts to recruiting of middle school kids, and they've each got academic specialties. Like you said, a lot of it here gets used to kids who want to go a certain academic route, but the coaches definitely recruit by selling kids on their team and then giving them talking points to get approved for the school.

We have a HS that recruits Illinois kids. Some of the public schools are starting to remove them from their schedule.

We have different definitions of good. He's been okay on plays where he wasn't rushed (5-9, 26 yards). He's been awful on plays where he was rushed (1-5, 9 yards).

So you are allowed to just roll into the end zone when you down a punt, but it gets put back at the spot where you first got control of it? Ok.

Two straight UCLA TDs that should have been picked off, but kudos to them for even being in position to make the plays.

This drive is showing the potential and reality of Rosen here pretty well. A couple of really good throws, a near INT right into the gut of a defender, a delay of game right after that, and a false start because he wasn't patient enough to let everyone get set. Then he follows it with the fake spike and perfect TD pass.

You can fire him for recruiting a backup who has literally never touched a football before.

That QB doesn't play defense.

Then again, neither does A&M.
