Troy Castillo was every bit the leader we needed him to be, though a few more sacks would have been nice. He still easily lead the team in tackles, TFL, and assists. He is the Defensive MVP.
S Antonio Spann was the suprise player of the year, picking off 6 passes and deflecting 3 more from his #2 safety spot. Dissapointment of the year was LB Matt Thrasher. Expected to carry the LB core, he turned out to be just average and didnt play up to his ability.

Well, I messed up on a recruit. I think I had a good ILB, but a WR that we contacted decided to join our team without a scholly... that allowed this targeted ILB to go to Colorado. My fault.

I'm sorry, I need mental help. First I saw Jose Oquendo here on the base...now I could swear that the flippin' wide receiver you brought in is Dave Valle, former Seattle Mariners catcher.

QB J.T. McWilliams (Calhoun, GA) (56+)
RB Skip Wilson (Souderton, PA) (49-) FB Ethan Grant (Lansing, IL) (47+) WR Dave Valle (Highland Park, IL) (49-) C Juan Winters (St. Louis, MO) (43-) G Adam Finley (Crestwood, KY) (46+) G Bernard Talley (Sterling, VA) (55+) T Cornell Meyer (Carthage, MO) (35++) P Mercury Graveson (San Francisco, CA) (79-) I'd like more information on my recruits, please. Like everything you can give me. Like strength, weakness, HT, WT, HS stats. The whole ball of wax. Outside looking in, I'm fairly disappointed our best player coming in offensively is a quarterback. Personally, I'd rather our best player have been a linemen. Beating the dead horse, I know, but please recruit closer to home and don't recruit a quarterback or receiver this upcoming season. Please. Personally, my goal right now is to get the best players in the state of Missouri. Lock the borders down. If you're All-State in Missouri, then you're going to be a Billiken. No ifs, ands, or buts about it. I don't even care if they idolize Cape or not. Unless of course, you're a quarterback or receiver. Heck, I'd even bend on that if you recruited them from MO instead of Moose Lake, Minnesota, or Chula Vista, CA. We'll have a much better chance at recruits that are looking to be close to home than anything else right now. We can work on Illinois as well. Right across the river, so a lot of schools are close. CLOSE. If we can beat the other Sol 8 schools to the recruits in state then we're going to hammer them. Physically. Mentally. Make THEM work for recruits out of state and use those recruiting points (I forget what they're called) to travel to California, Kansas, wherever. They won't get the All State players in a state they don't play in. It won't happen. They'll end up with some retreads from New Jersey or Wyoming. Remember, every time we travel out of state for a recruit, a kitten dies. Once we control Missouri, we can take the battle outside the state. Focus on next season: Depth. We need two running backs in this next class. We need at least two tight ends, two tackles, and a guard. Add another fullback and center as well. I'm not high on Winters. Once again, I wouldn't bother with quarterback, wide receiver, or for that matter, a kicker. Give our walk ons the chance to dream. That may be asking too much, since we'll only have 16 scholarships available for the year, right? If we split the scholarships evenly, give me what I requested above, just one running back instead.

Taking away the seniors I expect to lose, here's who we have left on offense.
QB J.T. McWilliams (Calhoun, GA) (56+) Wright, Freddie 4 QB Jr* 13 13 Hawkins, Scott 7 QB Fr 7 7 Linquist, Kennedy 16 QB Jr* 7 29 Our spring game won't be pretty. Hopefully your boy looks good this summer. Otherwise, maybe Linquist does a little bit better. RB Skip Wilson (Souderton, PA) (49-) Kaplan, Jeff 46 RB Jr 15 35 Lane, Jim 39 RB So 14 39 Morton, Gary 38 RB Jr 14 14 Doran, Jumbo 30 RB Fr 7 29 We lost both starters. Wilson may start as well, which doesn't say much for our backs. If Doran redshirted and improves enough, he and Kaplan may be 1 and 2. FB Ethan Grant (Lansing, IL) (47+) Hayes, Thurman 32 FB So 12 13 Pritchett, Chad 41 FB Fr 8 28 Moorman, Kendall 29 FB Fr 2 14 We were really weak at FB last year, moving our de facto FB to RB. Pritchett may beat out Hayes, but he'll have to hold off Grant. Maybe Grant hates his HS coach for not letting him play RB? Maybe we could give him a shot? Villasenor, Claude 91 TE Fr 18 32 Lucas, Bennie 92 TE So 15 38 Keefe, Don 96 TE Fr 8 8 We are super hurting here. No incoming help, and I think we may have gained a walk on here that I don't know about. Maybe we could move one of our 9,000 receivers, one of our bigger boys, to tight end. We need two recruits at this position this year. WR Dave Valle (Highland Park, IL) (49-) Blackwell, R.J. 84 WR Jr 17 17 Bitkowski, Gary 80 WR So 16 20 Manning, Jeremy 87 WR Jr* 11 29 Hastings, Bernie 8 WR So* 6 24 Flowers, Jesse 5 WR* Fr 7 10 Cash, Juan 9 WR* Fr 5 14 Dillon, Malcolm 82 WR* So* 2 30 No starters in this group, technically. We don't need em. Move em somewhere, take away their scholarships if they ain't smart. Something. That said, Manning and Valle will probably be our first options when we're behind by a bunch. C Juan Winters (St. Louis, MO) (43-) Reese, Ricky 54 C So* 9 46 No depth. No returning starter. We're young here, though, so we may get away without recruiting a center. Not sure who will win this battle. G Adam Finley (Crestwood, KY) (46+) G Bernard Talley (Sterling, VA) (55+) Higginbotham, Roger 68 G Fr 9 15 Talley, Nicky 64 G Jr* 8 17 Horner, Wally 72 G Fr 6 35 Another group with no returning starter. Both freshmen could make an impact. T Cornell Meyer (Carthage, MO) (35++) Thomas, Juan 71 T So 37 69 Covington, Norbert 60 T So* 10 10 Our only returning starter and an obvious lack of depth. We need two tackles this season. NEED. Meyer is going to step in at right tackle immediately. P Mercury Graveson (San Francisco, CA) (79-) Gerhardt, Karl 1 P So* 20 20 Cochrane, Leonard 12 K Jr* 37 37 Gaines, Devin 13 K Jr 25 51 Well, we can ignore special teams for a while.

Finally, I want height, weight and other junk from our current players as well. In fact, email me everything I've been asking for...game logs, roster, all that stuff. I want stuff to look at. I need my TCY fix through you.

Uhm, coach, 4 of the 5 recruits I want run blocking have that listed as their biggest weakness.

Maybe you could impress me and tell me that Skip ran for 2000 yards last year.
IE, I'd like to see the stats of our new recruits, even if it's just "9 games played". I like to use that, based solely on my own belief, to see if a recruit may be injury prone for me.

I wonder if ol' McWilliams ran the ball much in Georgia. I could modify the playbook if he does. Of course, we'd be one injury away from a hurt locker.
Well, given our running back situation, we're already in a hurt locker.

Thank god my D carries this squad...shame my counterpart on offense cant work the same magic with his unit. I think those 10 extra games i got in made all the difference in ability

I can see two a days already.
I'm telling our freshmen linemen who are pressed into starting to be more physical and explaining they need to block down, block down, block down. Backside linemen need to pull on that toss! I'm making the receivers run a mile, just to get them out of my way. I'm telling the fullback to block out our defensive end. Eat him alive! I'm making the whole offense hit the blocking sleds, including the quarterbacks. Make that the whole offense except the receivers, who are running another mile. I'm telling McWilliams that he is never to call an audible. I'm praying Skip and McWilliams stay healthy all season. I'm hoping Blade will take a receiver or three over to defense. I'm going to enjoy two a days.

The good news was our offense was relatively injury free last season.
The bad news was our offense was relatively healthy last season.

Coach, I took the liberty to mail out information packets to potential recruits within the Missouri area. Well, except players that project to be quarterbacks or receivers. I even mailed them out to defensive players; no need to thank me, blade.
I was thinking we needed to run a running game camp as well as a defense camp. We could run a passing game camp, but well, you know. We could invite a number of our potential recruits for free. We could also hold a coaching clinic. Bring in a few guest speakers and such. Invite all the local coaches for free. Any PR is good PR, no what I mean?
