If the Vikings lose their season is over...
The defense needs to step it up against a Garcia run Lions. Don't majorly choke here, please. |

Miami coming back against Buffalo. Did Ferrotte get benched or did he get hurt? Either way I'm THRILLED he's not playing.

Wow... 2:26 left, Pittsburgh with the ball trailing by 7 on their own 25.
This is going to be a great finish!

Well, Texans found a way to lose it still for the 2nd week in a row. They hold onto their pick for the time being.

I agree. After all the close games against bad teams this year for the Panthers(Lions, Bills, etc) it makes me feel real good to be able to take control of a game like this against a good team. That Jan 1 re-match is almost certainly going to have some signifigance for both teams, whether its a bye, division title, or simply making the playoffs with everyone bunched up together. |

Certainly did, and Elam has a 50+ FG att coming up... Nope: Shanahan is trying a sideline route (no TOs left) to get closer with 9 secs left

Bizarre: incomplete pass, and they obviously didn't like the FG option, so they run a draw to run out the clock?

Interesting play call for Denver before the half.
Should've just thrown the ball up for grabs, and hope for a penalty. |

From the Bengals/Steelers write-up:
"The Bengals came into their biggest game in 15 years with the division lead despite beating no opponent that currently has a winning record, and losing convincingly to Pittsburgh at home 27-13 on Oct. 23." Um Chicago? Minnesota? Both have winning records... I don't see how stuff like this gets published without even the most basic fact-checking. |

How much of Kyle Orton's future earnings will be attributable to the performance of the Bear's defense this year? 50%? More? Less?
Talk about an up and down life ... he went from Heisman candidate and likely #1 pick overall to being barely drafted to being the starting QB for a Super Bowl contender. |

49ers lose...Alex Smith played his best game, despite throwing 3 INT's. IMO, it's a step in the right direction.

With 54 seconds left, Denver have no timeouts left, and KC with 3rd down, is there anything to stop KC handing the ball to Larry Johnson and running backwards down the field? By running forward, they have to punt with 8 seconds left - if he could stay in his feet for 8 seconds more running backwards then drop to the ground, the game would be over.
Is there a rule against this?

He's got some learning to do, but he can throw the ball well, and today made a couple of really nice throws. We get him an O-Line that knows what it's doing, and we might be in business.

If the playoffs started today, here are the seedings:
AFC 1. Indy, 2. Denver, 3. Cincy, 4. NE, 5. Jax, 6. KC. If San Diego beats Oakland tonight, they would move into the 6th spot. NFC 1. Seattle, 2. Chicago, 3. Carolina, 4. Giants, 5. TB, 6. Dallas if Philly beats Seattle tomorrow, Chicago and Seattle would switch positions. |

the only "rule" against this is that it would count as negative yds so you wouldn't see a RB do it, although you might see something like a WR or a DB in at the RB spot do it. |

The Chiefs have some big games coming up -- at Dallas, at New York, vs. San Diego and vs. Cincinnati. They have to beat San Diego and probably Cincinnati along with one of the NFC games.

Panthers have a chance to basically put the South on ice next week if they beat Tampa. Doing so would put them two up on Tampa with three left, but would basically be a three-game with a sweep in hand. They'd also keep 2+tiebreaker ahead of Atlanta. Still have to travel to both NO and Atlanta, so it's not inconceivable for them to cough it up, though. However, they should (I repeat, should) beat NO, which will basically eliminate any chance either TB or ATL catch them if they win at home next week. That abysmal performance in Chicago is looking like it will come back to haunt them, however, as they now need Chicago to falter at least once more than they do to get the bye.
What'll be interesting is if Seattle gets beat by Philadelphia tomorrow. If that happens, all hell will be breaking loose trying to figure out not only who makes th playoffs, but who'll be seeded where. Even if Seattle loses, though, they have the easiest finish by far of any serious candidate for the playoffs (19-29 opposing record over the last four and 12 of those wins belong to Indy). Basically, the worst they should finish is 12-4 even with a loss tomorrow. |

OK, I know I'm a day late with my complaint, but I'll never understand Shanahan's decision to run the clock out at the end of the first half against KC. If you don't want to try the field goal, at least throw to the end zone. Personally, if Elam's too gimpy to try the field goal, I'd let Sauerbrun try it. Either way, I sure wouldn't just run the clock out.
As for the end of that game, I said to my wife that the Chiefs could've done something interesting on fourth down. They could've gotten into punt formation but had their fastest guy stand next to the punter. Have the punter take the snap (since he's used to handling the long snap), hand off to the fast guy, and let the fast guy run all the way back for a safety. I mean, it would be a little weird, and there would've been a chance for a botched handoff, but I'm a Broncos fan. I would've wanted that.
