Dhani Jones, Trent Cole (who played great for an injured guy, can't wait to see what he will do now), Matt McCoy, and Antoine Smith are now all 100%.
Sean Considine continues to suffer with his hamstring injury, and I'll continue to sit him due to the high risk of re-injury. Peyton Manning was the offensive player of the week. He completed 27 of 40 passes for 345 yards with 4 TD's 0 INT's. Chris Leak completed 28 of 42 for 292 yards with 2 TD's 1 INT for TB. Leak was taken in the 5th round of the 07 draft and my scout thinks he looks like a solid QB (33/50 now.) He started all of the games last year and completed 294 of 451 passes (65%) for 2988 yards with 14 TD's 17 INT's. His stats this year are a bit worse with 9 TD's and 13 INT's. LT had 32 carries for 144 yards and a TD this week. Dwayne Jarrett (who I thought about taking if I didn't trade up quite as high) had 9 catches for 232 yards and 2 TD's for the Colts. Jarrett looks like a 67/67 guy according to my scouts. Of course, Peyton is helping him, but his stats look very comparable to Ginn in his rookie year. This year, he has 63 catches for 1044 yards and 11 TD's already. Ginn has 51 catches for 708 yards and 5 TD's so far this year. Bery Barry, DE Arizona, had 5 tackles and 3 sacks to win defensive player of the week. Our next game is at Baltimore. Steve McNair is not aging well and he looks like a very pedestrian QB now, but he is still their starter. Bennie Hammond is a young back who isn't very good and is worse than Jamal Lewis. Todd Heap continues to be one of the better TE's in the league. The offensive line is solid except for RT Lamar Reeves. Defensively, Ray Lewis is finally slowing down a bit but is still good. Chris McAllister is losing a step, but the rest of the secondary is very good and McAllister is still good. They are 7-5. The rushing attack is 18th. The passing game is 18th, but the completion percentage is 1st. Despite, my scout's bad impressions of McNair he is having fantastic stats: 276 of 383 for 2681 yards with 20 TD's 5 INT's. Their turnover margin is plus 8 (7th in league.) They are 16 in points scored with 20.2 PPG. Defensively, they are #1 against the run. They are 9th against the pass. They are 6th in points allowed at 16.9. |

Both defenses dominating in the 1st quarter. Trent Cole is playing spectacularly. Meanwhile, they have forced a McNabb pick already midway through the 1st.
Akers misses a 39 yard FG 10 minutes into the game. Horrible miss. We can't keep tolerating his misses. He needs to snap out of it. At the end of the 1st, Terrell Suggs leaves the game with an injury. 0-0 tie, but we are driving into their half of the field. We end a balanced drive with a 7 yard TD pass from McNabb to Stallworth! 7-0. They respond with a strong drive in which McNair completed 4 of 4 passes including a TD pass. 7-7. 7 minutes left in the half. A 16 yard sack forces us into a 49 yard FG attempt which Akers misses. I'm getting very upset with our kicker. 3 quick passes including a 37 yarder gets them inside our 10. Marcus Golson with a 11 yard TD run 2 plays later. 14-7, Baltimore. Great kickoff return to get us good field position. McNabb throws a pick to McAllister on a deep ball. McNair leads a brilliant 2 minute drill. He drives them inside our 20 efficiently. We stop them the next few plays, but they hit the FG. 17-7. Halftime: 17-7, Baltimore leads. They get the ball to start the 2nd half. We force a punt just short of midfield, and their punter shanks it. McNabb to Stallworth for 15, then to Ginn for 13. Jamal Lewis with a nice 9 yard run - negated by holding. McNabb scrambles for 11, but fumbles it on the run inside their 20. Baltimore recovers. We force a 3 and out. Both defenses dominate the 3rd quarter. End of 3: Down 17-7, but we are driving across midfield. Joe Anderson with a sack for Baltimore. McNabb fumbles. Baltimore recovers. Jevon Kearse goes down with an injury on the next play which is a big run. Short FG to make it 20-7. 13:17 left. Samari Rolle intercepts another McNabb pass on our 38. That is probably the ball game. 11:38 left. McNabb is sacked on our 6. He fumbles. Baltimore recovers. Sheesh, their defense is eating us alive today. We stop them on 3 consecutive runs, but a short FG makes it 23-7. With 3:50 left, we turn it over on downs on our own 42. Ball game. 23-7 loss. Week 14, 2008 played in Baltimore, MD 45 degrees, fair, 8 mph wind

The Redskins are 3-10. They are 11th in rushing behind Portis' 1000 yards and 500 more from Duckett. They are 30th in passing as JasonCampbell has struggled at times. He has completed 207 of 374 passes for 2226 yards with 9 TD's 10 INT's.
They are scoring 15.2 ppg which is 29th. Their turnover margin is -1 which is 16th. Defensively, they are 15th against the run and 28th against the pass. They are 31st in PPG allowed at 25.8. Sean Taylor has been out for several weeks. He is questionable this week. If he doesn't play, their starting safeties will be fair at best. Their RCB David Macklin is also a week link. The Linebacking crop is the strength of the team with Rocky McIntosh, Lemar Marshall, and Marcus Washington all playing well. Carlos Rogers has become a truly elite CB. The 4th year player excels at everything. Jason Campbell has become a decent QB and is rated 43 currently by our scout. Steve Breaston and Brandon Lloyd are a good receiving duo. The offensive line is very solid too. Chris Cooley is a dangerous TE. |

We get an early pick of a Campbell pass to get the ball at midfield.
Akers kicks a 35 yard FG to make it 3-0. Our next drive, Ginn fakes out Carlos Rogers on a short route and turns it into a 21 yard gain. That is a key play on a drive which ends with a 1 yard Westbrook TD run. 10-0. They make it 10-3 on a 47 yard FG. We return the kickoff for a TD!!! 17-3. Michael Lewis with a pick of Campbell's first pass (a deep throw) of their next drive. Akers misses a 51 yard FG. If there was a better kicker out there, I'd fire him. Colby with a sack to start their next drive. Halftime: 17-3, we are up. McNabb is 15 of 21 for 158 yards at the half. We've held them to under 100 yards. Midway through the 3rd, Westbrook fumbles on our 42 and they recover. Hopefully, the defense shuts them down. 1 play later, Sheldon Brown intercepts Campbell! 2 plays later, Carlos Rogers intercepts a McNabb pass and returns it 48 yards for a TD. 17-10. James Mungro with an injury on the 2nd play of our next drive. That hurts with Hancock out. We score a TD late in the 3rd, but the XP is blocked. 23-10. Michael Lewis with another pick of a Campbell pass midway through the 4th.. Campbell has thrown 5 picks today! Late in the 4th, we kick a short FG to make it 26-10. Michael Lewis with another pick of a long Campbell pass!! Game over. 26-10 win. The Rams lost to the 6-7 49ers! We still have a chance at the bye. Minnesota beat 7-6 GB. C Patrick Mannelly is now 100%.
Considine continues to suffer with his hamstring. Mungro is doubtful due to a hyperextended knee. I'll have him come in only for emergency. Otherwise, it is up to untested Paul Smith. Carson Plamer was the offensive player of the week with 31 of 39 passing for 388 yards with 2 TD's 0 INT's. Troy Smith had 22 of 32 passing for 249 yards with 3 TD's 1 INT. Cedric Benson led all backs with 35 carries for 161 yards. Chad Johnson had 11 catches for 226 yards and a TD. Next up, we host Pittsburgh.
Pittsburgh is 8-6. They are 8th in rushing led by Willie Parker who has 250 carries for 993 yards and 11 TD's. Their #2 back has 400 yards and their #3 back has another 340 yards. Their passing game is 11th thanks to Big Ben. He has completed 240 of 406 passes for 2903 yards, but has thrown 12 TD's to 13 INT's. Their turnover margin is -11 which is 31st. They are scoring 19.6 PPG which is 18th. Defensively, they 2nd against the run. They are 2nd against the pass. They are 1st overall in total defense. They are 3rd in points allowed at 16.6 PPG. The Offensive is solid except for RT Glenn Bolasina who is a very weak blocker. Defensively, Aaron Smith has become a liability at DE. However, the rest of the defense is very good with Troy Polamalu being the star of the defense. Joey Porter is still a very good player as well. |

Ben to Santonio Holmes for 22 yards to start the game.
However, Trent Cole with a big play on 3rd down to stop them. A short punt and a nice punt return starts us on our 40. An Illegal Formation kills a 33 yard gain to Baskett midway through the 1st. We get stopped at the 5 and settle for a FG. 3-0 at the end of 1. Pttsburgh with a huge bomb for a TD to make it 7-3. Westbrook with a fumble and Pittsburgh recovers on their 38. Wow. LJ Smith catches a ball on our 14, but fakes out two defenders and runs 86 more yards for a total of a 92 yard TD reception!!!! 10-7. Next drive, Willie Parker with a 57 yard TD run in which he broke two tackles. 14-10. Westbrook with another fumble on our 42, and they recover. Westbrook is hurting us today. Trent Cole with a sack on 3rd down and we force a 3 and out. Great defense. Westbrook with another fumble. I think he might be getting fatigued. Fortunately, LJ recovers it. Halftime: Pittsburgh leads 14-10. McNabb is 12 of 16 for 199 yards at the half. A great kickoff return starts us on their 42. Sheesh. Big Ben throws it 52 yards to Hine Wards on 3rd and 21. Two plays later, Ben to Ward for a 14 yard TD. 21-10. 6:30 left in the 3rd. Geoge Wickliff intercepts McNabb's pass. Before I know it, it is 28-10. The only good news is that St. Louis is getting crushed by NE 27-6. Minnesota is beating Houston 24-20. Pittsburgh makes it 35-10 with 9:30 left in the 4th. Game over. 35-10 loss. At least NE won 33-6. We still have a shot at the bye. Week 16, 2008 played in Philadelphia, PA 32 degrees, fair, 3 mph wind

Shawn Andrews and Winston Justice are now 100%.
Mungro is probable with his hyperextended knee. Todd Herremans suffered an abdominal strain and is doubtful. Reggie Brown is questionable with a sprained thumb. Considine is still questionable with his darn hamstring. Herremans is going to play through it due to very low risk of reinjury, but he will give up time to his backup. Reggie Brown is also going to play through his injury despite moderate risk of reinjury. I'm going to bring Mungro back this week with his backup getting some PT. Kearse will rest a bit more. Ben Roethlisberger was the Offensive Player of the Week for his performance against us. Shane Wagner, who started due to an injury to David Carr for Houston completed 29 of 51 passes for 386 yards with 3 TD's and 1 INT. Reggie Bush led all RB's with 32 carries for 168 yards with a TD. Eric Parker had 4 catches for 165 yards and 2 TD's for SD. Trent Cole was the defensive player of the week with his 9 tackles and 3 sacks. Our Last game of the Regular Season is hosting the 9-6 Giants who are fighting for their playoff life. If they win, they are definitely in. If they lose, they need a few other teams to lose. The Giants Eli Manning is now rated 91/91 by our scouts and is considered the 2nd best QB in the league. However, their offensive line is very shaky, their running game is weak, and Plaxico Burress is aging. Defensively, Sam Madison is a very good corner still, but the rest of the secondary isn't that good. However, their defensive line is playing very well and is key to their defense. Their running offense is 29th. Their passing offense is 13th, but Eli missed several games with injuries. They are 5th in scoring with 24.7 PPG. Defensively, they are 16th against the run and 14th against the pass. They are 8th with 18.2 PPG allowed. |

We start off on our 2 after they have a great punt. We get to their 26, but Akers misses a 43 yard FG. He glares at the Punter afterwards and blames him for a bad hold.
We force a 3 and out to get the ball back. Tony Parrish intercepts McNabb's pass on their own 23. He returns it to midfield. End of 1: 0-0. Jay Feely connects on a 45 yard FG. 3-0. Sam Madison is injured trying to tackle Ginn on our drive. Meanwhile, the Rams are losing to Arizona 7-0. After stopping us, the Giants start deep in their own half. They quickly hit Burress for a few big passes to get inside our 30. We stop them just inside the 20, but a defensive holding call gives them a 1st. Next play, a TD to Bucky Williams makes it 10-0. 2 minutes left for us to drive the field. Offensive pass interference negates a long pass to Baskett that would have gotten us into FG range. Halftime: Down 10-0. McNabb with crisp passing drives us down the field inside their 5. McNabb to Ginn for a 3 yard TD!!! 10-7. Eli with a long pass to Sinorce Moss who breaks two tackles and goes 45 yards for a TD. 17-7. Reggie Brown with a good kickoff return to start us on our 37. Kevin Kaesvharin intercepts the ball at their 36. Bad throw by McNabb. Sheldon Brown intercepts a deep ball and returns it to our 40. Nice way to come back. McNabb with a 35 yard pass to Stallworth on the first play. Offensive Holding pushes us back when were on their 5. We already have 10 penalties for 85 yards. We settle for a FG. 17-10. 2:20 left in the 3rd. Trent Cole with good pressure on their first 2 plays and Phillip Buchanon defends the 3rd down pass, but Trent Cole goes down on the play They are double teaming Ginn constantly. End of 3: 17-10, Giants lead. We are on our own 46. They stop us on their 24. Akers connects on a 41 yard FG. 17-13. Meanwhile Minnesota is losing 24-6 to Chicago and the Rams are still losing 7-0 to (3-12) Arizona. They move the ball easily until they get to our 42. Then, the defense toughens up a bit. We stop them on our 31. Feely misses a 48 yard FG attempt! 5:30 left. Offensive Holding pushes us back into 2nd and 16. McNabb to Stallwroth for 15 but that is negated by Holding. 2nd and 22. They pressure McNabb into a bad throw. They sack McNabb on 3rd and 22. They start on their 31. 4:11 left. We must get the ball back quickly. Jose Bell breaks two tackles and has a 11 yard run. We stop them the next few plays and force a fumble on 3rd and 7! We recover on their 47. 2:19 left. McNabb to Ginn for 5. McNabb scrambles for 2. McNabb throws a bomb for Ginn... it is intercepted by Tony Parrish. An offsides against us gives them 2nd and 1. That leads to a first down. They run out the clock. 17-13 loss. At least the Rams lost to Arizona, 7-3. Minnesota lost to Chicago 27-6. Week 17, 2008 played in Philadelphia, PA 30 degrees, fair, 6 mph wind

Jevon Kearse and James Mungro are both 100%.
Trent Cole is questionable with a sprained knee but will play, just Kearse will get more PT behind him. Despite his hamstring, Considine will play as the primary backup. Now, we host the Giants in the rematch. I'm not going to change my gameplan much, just a slight higher reliance on the run. |

On 3rd and 7 on their 45, McNabb throws a pick on their 28.
We force a 3 and out! McNabb with a short pass to Reggie Brown and he fakes out two defenders... goes 42 yards for a TD!!!! 7-0! We force another 3 and out! Stallworth with a good PR gets us the ball on our 46. Akers hits a 53 yard FG to make it 10-0, late in the 1st. End of 1: 10-0 lead. Giants have 3rd and 6. Eli scrambles for 7 yards. Manning to Dwayne Bowe for a 27 yard gain. Next play, Bunkley sacks Manning. Next play, Lito sacks him to force 3rd and 20. They end up punting. Offensive holding forces us into 1st and 20, but Westbrook picks up 9 right away to make it 2nd and 11. Pass to Baskett for 10 on that play. We convert the 3rd and 1. On 3rd and 7 on their 40, McNabb connects to Ginn for 13 yards. On 3rd and 10 on their 27, McNabb connects with Baskett for 13. Offensive Holding forces us into 3rd and 14. McNabb to Greg Lewis, but he only gets 11. Akers hits a 24 yard FG. 13-0 with 5:08 left in the 1st half. We stop them short of midfield. 2:56 to drive down the field, but we get stopped on the 40. A GREAT punt pins them on their 1. Halftime: 13-0 lead for us. McNabb is 14 of 21 for 160 yards with a TD and an interception so far. Bunkley with a big sack to force 3rd and out. Trent Cole suffered a minor injury on the play. A short punt gets us the ball on their 39. McNabb to Stallworth out of the slot for 17. Westbrook fumbles and the Giants recover on their 21. Sean Considine with a key pass defensed on 3rd and 3. We force a 3 and out. Burress with a lot of dropped balls already. We stop them short of midfield as Buchanon made a good defensive play. Both defenses taking over this quarter. Manning to Burress for 28 yards and then 46 yards late in the 3rd. Jose Bell fumbles on the next play, and Buchanon recovers the fumble! End of 3: 13-0 we lead. McNabb scrambles for 12 to convert a 3rd and 11. Later in the drive, he scrambles for 10 to convert 3rd and 7. That was a lengthy drive that ate up over 7 minutes, but we get forced into 4th and 21 on the 40 due to a personal foul. We punt, 7:49 left in the game. We force a 3 and out! Broderick Bunkley sacks them on their own 2 to really back them up on their next drive. That leads to another 3 and out, except an encroachment call gies them a 1st. Next play, they throw to Burress for 47 yards and then 14 more. We force them into 4th and 10 but offsides gives them 5 yards. We still stop them on 4th and 5. 2:30 left. Brian Dawkins intercepts Eli on their next drive. 1:39 left. We run out the clock as they are out of timeouts now. 13-0 win. St. Louis starts off with the ball.
They come out in a 5 wide out set right away! 20 yard pass to Curtis. Bulger to Curtis for 11 more. Another few passes to Holt. Before I know it, they are inside our 20. Jackson with an 18 yard running TD. 7-0. We respond with a methodical drive that was marked by a key McNabb scramble. It ate up over 8 minutes and ends with a 3 yard TD pass to Ginn! 7-7. End of 1: 7-7 with the Rams inside our 10 yard line. A few plays later Jackson catches a screen pass for 2 yards. 14-7. They stop us on their 38. We stop them on our 41. Our next drive was going great until Ginn fumbled on their 32 and they recovered. Their drive ends with a 12 yard TD to Jackson. 21-7. We must score before the half. 1:20 left. They force us into 4th down and we punt. 30 seconds left. Halftime: Rams up 21-7 over us. We get the ball to start the half. Dexter Coakley with a sack on 3rd down ends our drive early. Bulger with a 46 yard pass to Curtis to go to our 5. Bulger to Holt for a 5 yard TD. 28-7. We go 3 and out. This is getting ugly. We can't come back all the way. We lose 35-17. Nice. Good news is your loaded with a full draft. Hopefully, after not taking any high picks last year and a pretty restrictive free agent season, your cap space will provide more space.

Actually, I think some picks from this upcoming draft were traded in my moving up to get Ginn. I'm almost certain I'm missing my 1st rounder and maybe another pick. That being said, I'm hoping to have some cap room to make another splash on the FA market if a young good player is available. Gaming time has been limited during the week, but expect updates either tonight or tomorrow (if my buddy is able to go out tonight.) |

Guys night out?
Looks like Ginn is emerging as a star playmaker. Has an Average Yardage that's better than the top 20 receivers, a catching % on par (could be slightly better). Y/att. is after the catch, correct? Also, looking at the team summary, he had 193 drops? I'm confused, if he is had only 118 target balls? Last edited by Galaxy : 12-08-2006 at 06:04 PM. |

The targeted number is correct. The dropped balls is bugged in the HTML output. I'll post the real numbers when I get to play in a little bit (probably in an hour or so.) |

Ginn's corrected stats: 118 targets. 67 catches. 56.8%. 882 yards. 13.16 avg/catch. 4 dropped balls.
Stallworth led the team with 5 drops. Baskett had 4 drops. Reggie Brown had 4 drops. Westbrook had 2 drops. LJ Smith, Jamal Lewis, and Glen Ogden each had 1 drop. We sent Antoine Smith, our 5th round C to the summer league. He is 16/49 going to the league. I wanted to send our unrestricted FA RB Scott Abe, but we can't since I haven't re-signed him to the roster yet (only signed him to a 1 year deal last year.) We also increased ticket prices about 25% across the board. We made 38 million in profit last year. The Rams are offering a 1st round pick (29) and a 4th round pick for Broderick Bunkley. We turn down the deal. Bunkley is a 73/73 rated 4 year DT. He is under contract for 3 more years at a very modest 2 million a year. As we approach FA, I look at current expired contracts. We are going to let Jamal Lewis go as I don't think he has much more to give. Also, due to his injury, we won't re-sign Ryan Motes. I'm also unimpressed with the development of RG Scott Young and will let him go. Brian Russell seems to want to test the market, and we aren't worried about re-signing the 8th year vet. Paul Smith, an inseason pickup, will be allowed to walk. I re-sign Scottie Abe to a new 2 year deal with 50k in signing bonus 470k this year and 720k next year. The undrafted FA is up to 32/42 and I think he is going to continue to improve. We sign Buchanon to a new 3 year deal for a total of 6.4 million since he only had a 1 year deal left. Sean Considine has 1 year left. We sign him to a new 3 year deal worth 7 million (2 million signing bonus.) There are quite a few vets and young guys that I'm going to take a wait and see chance and may lose to FA if I don't renegotiate them later this year. These include: Trotter (too old to re-sign now), Jay Fielder, Donte Stallworth (getting old), Greg Lewis, Colby Bockwoldt, Matt McCoy (I'll re-sign one of them during the season, probably Colby), Mike Patterson (good pass rusher, but think I might want a better run stopping DT), Jeremy Bloom (might not even make the team), Omar Gaither (not sure his run defense is good enough to take over for Trotter), Chris Gocong (still not showing much), Max Jean-Gilles (decent backup, will probably re-sign), Winston Justice (ditto, if he will re-sign), Sam Kellar (pre-season will probably dictate if I re-sign him), TE Melvin Bryant (will likely re-sign during the season), and Dallas Sartz (unfortunately, the USC LB just isn't cutting it so far.) |

Ok, this year I have my 1st round pick (27th) but don't have my 2nd, 3rd, or 4th round picks.
My top 10 non-kicker FA's available (by ratings): WILB Jonathan Vilma (rated 65/65) - However he only had 53 tackles in 22 starts last year. He only defensed 1 pass despite being a well rated pass defender. SLB Lance Briggs (rated 61/61) - Scouts think he has supreme pass rushing ability. Only started 3 games due to inury. No hurries or sacks. Only 9 tackles in 3 starts. MLB London Fletcher (rated 56/56) - He is a 12th year vet. Played mostly as a backup last year but had 10.5 sacks and 53 tackles. However, I think he is going to drop off. C Alex Stepanovich (rated 56/56) - 6th year big C with the Patriots is a tempting target from his ratings. Slightly above average as both a pass and run blocker. Completed 28 of 76 run blocks last year (36.8) Allowed 3 sacks in 481 pass plays (0.6%.) Clear upgrade from who I have. He is only asking for a 1 year deal at 1.28 million. I'll definitely offer him a bit more than that. I have a glut at the position, but Dominic Raiola has developed a red flag for character and I'll probably cut him. SLB Gilbert Gardner (rated 56/56) - 68 tackles, 16 assists, and 8 sacks for the Jets last year from the SLB position. DT Tommy Kelley - (Rated 54/54) 6th year vet with Oakland is rated 78 in run defense. Abdominal injury last year is a concern, but he had 60 tackles, 25 assists, and 1.5 sacks in 13 starts! He's my top priority. Patterson would be great as just a pass rushing DT this year. He wants 1 year for 1.08 million. I offer 2 years for 4 million with a 1.5 million signing bonus. OLB Adalius Thomas - Rated 54/54. He is a 10th year vet and I don't have much interest as his main speciality is Bump and Run. FS Matt Giordano - The 5th year vet for the Colts isn't good enough at Zone defense. No interest for me. He is rated 54/54. OLB Michael Boley - The 5 year vet is a balanced defender who is rated 53/53. In 14 starts, he had 58 tackles, 15 assists, and 5.5 sacks as well as 7 hurries for Dallas last year. Dhani Jones is on the downside and this is an alluring pick, but I could go for a SLB with the 1st round pick and get them PT right away along with Dhani Jones. Although my scout is only average with Linebackers, he thinks there are several very intriguing LB's in the draft that might be worth a late first round pick. I'll pass on the SLB's in FA. Finally, C Dylan Gandy of the Colts. He is rated 53/68 and has significant upside. However, he is a poor pass blocker right now who is never going to be more than barely acceptable. However, he has the potential to be a dominating run blocker. In 14 starts last year he finished off 18 of 50 run blocks (36%) but gave up 8 sacks in 481 pass plays (1.7%.) I like his potential, but I'm going to go after the more balanced C. I'm offering Alex Stepanovich a 2 year deal at 4 million with a 1.5 signing bonus as well. So, Alex and Tommy will be our only 2 targets early. |

I immediately release Dominic Raiola after they sign. Now, time to assess the roster at this point and determine needs: Code:

Looking through the roster at stats and production:
I think we are set at QB for this year. Fielder will play well enough if McNabb goes down and Kellar is our main project. I'd like to draft a low round HB to develop behind Westbrook and Scottie, but don't want a more proven FA. Mungro and Hancock have us set at FB assuming Hancock can come back from his injury. H Smith, Bryant and Ogden are a good set of TE's as a group. Ginn was at 77 at the end of last season. I think he'll be higher by the end of pre-season. I'm happy with Baskett as our #2. I think Brown and Stallworth are a great set for #3 and 4. We are set at C with Mannelly being able to slide over to guard. I want to try to get Antoine Smith a bit more PT if possible to see if he can develop into a good backup. I'm concerned about LG. Todd Herremans needs to produce more this year. Shawn Andrews has us set at RG. I'll probably grab a low round G to backup Andrews and possibly develop at LG too. We are set at LT with Levi Brown. With Runyan's retirement, Marion Dukes might start at RT. However, we might pick up one in late FA as well if there is a very good RT available who isn't too old. I'm tempted to cut Akers, but he'll get one more year to right the ship as he was very accurate in previous years. We are set with our young P. While we are old at DE, assuming they don't drop off too much, I think we have 4 good DE's with Trent Cole and Kearse being the likely starters. Tommy Kelley is going to take over the starting job alongside Bunkley. Patterson and Darwin Walker are GREAT as backup DT's. Trotter should have one more good year in him. Omar Gaither will get more PT this year. If he develops, he could take over the starting MLB spot next year. Chris Gocong just isn't impressing that much. Dhani Jones is on the downside. Unless a great looking CB is available late in the 1st round, we'll probably draft our future starter at SLB. Colby, Matt, and Dallas are a good trio. Dallas might get cut this year. Sheldon Brown is a CB that I'm worried might start declining. If he doesn't, he is a solid CB. Buchanon made some good plays for us last year and Lito Sheppard is a reliable NB. I'm not sold on Victor Askey as a DB and we'll probably draft a CB late in the draft or get one in last FA. Michael Lewis and Sean Considine are the only S's under contract. We'll either draft or sign one more this year. No more FA's will be signed until after the draft. My draft position targets: SLB (probably 1st round) CB S HB G T (only if a very good RT is available late in the 1st and a SLB and CB aren't.) |

Interesting FA Signing:
An aging Steve McNair signed with the Cowboys. Jamal Lewis signed with the Giants. Hope I don't regret letting him go. Time for the draft. There is one OLB, Sherman Gregg that is a freak at the combine. If he lasts to the 27th pick, I'll probably take a chance on him despite my scouts believing that he is very raw. |

With the 1st pick, Atlanta takes Dave Mahoney, an absolute stud HB.
With the 2nd pick, Oakland takes a great run stopping DT in Dennis Farr. With the 3rd pick, I think Arizona reaches to take Quinn Walker. He looks like a good RB, but there are some great CB's and DT's on the board. With the 4th pick, Washing takes Darrell Carlson, an overall very good looking DE. With the 5th pick, Carolina takes the best DT in my opinion Wade Fredrickson. With the 6th pick, Detroit reaches a bit to take the best QB available. With the 7th pick, Carolina takes Chester Preston, a very good looking running back. With the 8th pick, Houstin takes D.J. Breeding a good run stopping DT. With the 9th pick, Houstin takes Ellis Henderson, the best looking CB in the draft. With the 10th pick, Seattle takes the next best looking DT Kendrick Deneault. With the 11th pick, the Jets take Shane Urquiola who I think is going to be a pass rushing specialist. With the 12th pick, the Colts takes Jay Burney, a solid looking CB. SF takes a very good looking DE with the 13th pick, Luke Shephard. Baltimore reaches just a bit and takes what I thought was the 3rd best QB (but my scout is bad at QB's) in Brian Dvoracek. Tennessee takes JC Webber, a MONSTER G with the 15th pick. I would have been tempted if he lasted a bit later to replace Todd Herremans. TB take Bryant Gorcester, a decent looking DT with the 16th pick. KC takes Fernando Leftwich, a versatile TE with the 17th pick. With the 18th pick, GB takes A.J. Briggs, a CB that seems to specialize in Bump and Run coverage. Chicago takes the QB who I thought was the 2nd QB with the 19th pick, Damon Logan. 20th Buffalo takes the top WR in the draft, Leroy Parrish. With the 21st pick, Cincinnati takes Brad Diaz an impressive looking S. New Orleans takes Grady Parent, a CB with the 22nd pick. Pittsburgh takes Derek Daylo, another CB with the 23rd pick. Miami take Deion Parrish, a good run stopping DE with the 24th pick. The Giants take Travis Meade, a solid running back with the 25th pick. Denver takes Charlie Jacobus, a good looking DE with the 26th pick. So, we have several interesting possibilities with our 1st pick: WLB Lonnie Leeper is 5'9 232. He has more experience at SLB than WLB and should convert ok. He runs a 4.71 40. He benched 19 times. He has a 7.17 agility score. He has a 9' 1" broad jump. He has a 25 position score and is 57% developed. Our scout thinks he is as scouted and that he has a maxed out run defense bar, a very good pass rushing bar, a very poor M2M bar, a very good Zone and BNR bar. He also has a good bar for Play diagnosis and Punishing hitter, as well as special teams. Another option is Lorenzo Queen. He is 5'9 223. He has more experience at WLB than SLB> He runs a 4.60 40. He has 18 bench presses. 7.17 in agility. 9' 11" broad jump. 22 position score. 27% developed. Also as scouted. Very good bars in Run defense and Pass rush. Ok Bar in M2M. Poor bar in zone. Great bar in BnR (which I don't like to run as much). Good bar in Play Diagnosis. Weak hitter. 1st guy is ahead of him in my book. My "Freak" player: Sherman Gregg. He is 5'10 224. He has most experience at WLB but slightly less at SLB. He runs a 4.46 in the 40. He has a 7.40 agility which is his only bad combine score. He benches 23 times which is best among LB's. His 10' 4" broad jump is among the bes tin the draft. He has a 36 position score and is 36% developed. However, my scout (who is average at LB thinks he is very overrated and gives him bad bars in Run Defense, M2M defense, Zone defense. He gives him great bars in pass rush technique and strength and punishing hitter. Everything else is low bars. Would his size allow him to convert to SLB? Lonnie Leeper is definitely the safe pick. Also, in the mix: Rob Lyght is a big powerful LG who our scouts think will be an elite run and pass blocker. He runs a 5.02, benches 27 times, 7.70 in the agility drill, and has a 8' 1" broad jump. He is 36% developed and our scouts think he is underrated. He is 6'3 303. Also, in the mix: Brant Nield. 5'10 189 pound CB who runs a 4.42, 15 benches, 7.16 agility drill, 9' 0" broad jump. 39 position drill. 27% developed. Scouts as expected. Has very good bars in run defense, zone, and punishing hitter. Has excellent bars in M2M and Interceptions as well as special teams. Poor bar in BnR defense. Finally, there is Wayne McClurken. He is a 6'7 355 pound RT who is expected to become a powerful run blocker and a very good pass blocker. He is only 20% developed now. Runs a 5.24. 26 bench presses. 7.75 agility. 7' 6" broad jump. Our scouts think he is underrated. |

I'm going back and forth on this. If Lonnie Leeper didn't have such weak M2M defense, he would be an easy choice. However, that worries me a bit since I want to run quite a bit of M2M defense.
I'm actually going to go a completely different direction. I'm going to take another guy: C Stephen Phillips who has the potentail to be an elite all around blocker. I'm planning on moving him to G. He is 6'5 329. He runs a 5.01 40. He has 39 bench presses. He runs a 7.79 in the agility drill. He has an 8' 5" broad jump. He is 32% developed. With the 28th pick, Jacksonville takes Brad Blidner, a good looking RB. With the 29th pick, the Rams take Lonnie Leeper. With the 30th pick, the Vikings take Levon Stone, a solid looking CB. With the 31st pick, NE takes Chuck Shields, a good receiving TE. With the 32nd pick, Dallas takes the powerful G Rob Lyght. If the freak OLB is available in the 3rd round, I'm going to try to move up from my 4th round pick. |

Brant Nield went 38th to Cleveland.
The freak is still on the board, but seems to be moving up as far as best "overall grade." I'm not sure he is going to last deep into the 3rd round. If he is still there when it gets to the 10th pick, I'm going to make a play with this year's picks to get the 10th pick in the 3rd round. Just confirmed that I have all picks for the next 2 years. I should say, I had them all I offer my 3rd next year (which I expect to be a low pick), my 7th next year, and my 5th this year to finally make a deal (they rejected several other deals) and get the 10th pick in the 3rd round from Houston. I'm going to gamble on the freak. If nothing else, he should be a great blitzing linebacker, but I think he can develop into a whole lot more. In the 6th round, I take a SS to develop that our Scouts really liked. Frank McGrath is 5'11 197. He runs a 4.55 has a 29 on the intelligence test. He benches 11 times and has a 7.17 in the agility. 8' 4" broad jump. 32 position score and 32% developed. Our scout thinks he is underrated and thinks he has a very high run defense bar. Aslo he is very good at M2M defense and Zone. His biggest weaknesses are interceptions and play diagnosis, but I think he could develop into a decent backup S particularly for a 6th rounder. Our 7th round pick is one that our scouts thought was very overrated, but still think has decent bars in hole recognition, elusiveness and power inside. Eddie Glover is 5'11 229 and he runs a 4.70. He benches 18 times and has a 7.42 agility score. He has a 9'4" broad jump. 24 in the position score and 44% developed. |

The Raiders offer a 2nd round pick for Shawn Andrews. I reject the deal.
Not too surprisingly, Trent Cole who was among the sack leaders is holding out for a new deal. I decide to give Trent Cole a 3 year 13.48 million dollar deal that he is asking for. This includes 4 million dollar signing bonus. Still a good price for his premium sack production. I offer Undrafted RT Joel Thomason a 2 year deal worth 1.04 million as he is a promising rookie according to our scouts. We release DT Sam Rayburn who just doesn't cut it any more with our recent upgrades at DT. There aren't any other good FA's that fit our needs in this stage of FA. Marty Booker signs a 1 year deal with the Colts. The 1st look of our scouts thinks that the freak is a MASSIVE bust I'm going to hope they are wrong and give him time to develop. He is only rated 13/24 though at his original position and 13/23 at SLB. Despite, the price increase we sold 65,500 of 68,500 possible season tickets. The Seahawks want Winston Justice and are offering a 4th round pick. I turn them down as he might become our RT if Marion Dukes busts. |

Westbrook is finally starting to decline. However, the C that we took (and converted to LG) already is looking like he will be a very good LG:

Sherman Gregg has gone up to 15/28 from his 12/23. I'm going to get him a bit of work at SLB and see if he can develop..
Dhani Jones is falling fast though. SLB is going to be a real weakness, but I might play McCoy at SLB some. Sheldon Brown is starting to decline and this will probably be his last year as a starter. |

Time for the Pre-season. Same deal as before. I'll highlight performances that standout, as well as focus on my rookies (particularly the freak.)
I'm giving him 70% of the snaps as a backup at SLB. My coaches want us to play Colby as the primary SLB and McCoy at the WLB and that makes a lot of sense, so I'm doing it. |

Our first game is a 13-3 loss to Jacksonville. Our run defense was excellent holding them to under 2 YPC. Scottie Abe had 39 yards on 13 carries. McNabb looked good, but Sam Kellar had a bad game. He was 14 of 38 for 104 yards.
Stallwroth had 7 catches for 62 yards as the primary receiver (Ginn only played a few plays.) Akers missed 3 FG's Omar Gaither played very well with 8 tackles. Trent Cole had 2 sacks in limited time. Sherman Gregg had 2 tackles and 4 assists in 41 plays. Despite only playing 17 plays, Cole also had 2 hurries and 3 knockdowns. Sherman Gregg allowed 2 passes to be caught against him, but so did Matt McCoy in many less plays. Stephen Phillips was 2 of 2 on KRB's and didn't allow any sacks in 52 pass plays. Winston Justice was 0 of 1 on KRB's but didn't allow any sacks in 51 plays. Antoine Smith, our young C allowed 2 sacks in only 39 pass plays. Kellar's bad day might have been due to 5 knockdowns and 12 hurries. We won our 2nd pre-season game at Pittsburgh 34-14. Scottie Abe, the undrafted RB, had 31 carries for 149 yards and 2 TD's. We held their backs to 3.7 YPC. McNabb was 17 of 19 for 142 yards with a TD and an INT. Sam Kellar was 10 of 16 for 99 yards with a TD. Drew Stanton was 19 of 33 for 178 yards and 2 TD's with 3 INT's against us. Stallworth had 12 catches for 86 yards. In limited time, Ginn had 3 catches for 52 yards. Omar Gaither had 1 of our 4 picks. Omar led the team with 5 tackles and 2 assists in just 31 plays. Chris Gocong had 4 tackles and 2 assists in 32 plays. Sherman "the freak" Gregg had 3 tackles and an assist in 29 plays. No one had any sacks, but Trent Cole had 2 hurries and 2 knockdowns in 26 pass plays. DB Victor Askey allowed 4 catches against him in 35 pass plays. Gregg allowed 3 to be caught against him despite playing just 13 plays LG Stephen Phillips had 5 of 6 KRB's in 35 plays. He did allow a sack in 32 pass plays. Brandon Hancock who is our starting FB in pre-season and might just win the job had 3 of 3 KRB's. Undrafted tackle Joel Thomason had 2 of 2 KRB in 32 plays and 0 sacks allowed in 20 pass plays. Winston Justice had 1 of 2 KRB's and 0 sacks in 36 pass plays. Akers was 2 of 3 on FG's but the longest was a 28 yarder. |

In the 2nd game, Justice suffered a hyperextended elbow that will cost him 3 to 4 weeks.
Marion Dukes now gets a chance to prove to me that the scouts are wrong and he isn't busting. If he busts, this will really make me regret passing on Brian Leonard who looks good so far. We lost our 3rd pre-season game to the Colts 23-17. They ran all over us, led by Addai who had 15 carries for 105 yards and a TD. Scottie Abe had 16 carries for 56 yards for us. McNabb was 6 of 8 for 29 yards and a TD. Sam Kellar was 18 of 30 for 165 yards and a TD. Omar Gaither led our team with 9 tackles and an assist in 37 plays. He is looking very good. In just 33 plays, Sherman Gregg had 4 tackles and an assist. In just 19 plays, Trent Cole had 3 hurries and 5 knockdowns. In just 14 pass plays, Sherman Gregg allowed 3 completions against him LG Stephen Phillips is looking like he will win the job outright. He completed 3 of 4 run blocks but did give up 2 sacks in 38 plays. Still, I like what I'm seeing from him. Marion Dukes only completed 1 of 5 KRB's but didn't give up any sacks in 38 pass plays. We lost our final pre-season game 26-20 to the Ravens at our field. We held them to just over 3 YPC. Westbrook had 12 carries for 67 yards. Scottie Abe had 13 carries for 36 yards. Eddie Glover who are coaches think should be our primary short yardage back had 2 carries for 14 yards. McNabb was 10 of 10 for 97 yards and a TD. Sam Kellar was 18 of 36 for 180 yards and a TD. Their rookie, Brian Dvoracek was 8 of 13 for 110 yards against us. Stallworth led all receivers with 8 catches for 73 yards. Ginn had 3 catches for 41 yards and a TD. Chris Gocong surprised us by leading the team with 8 tackles and 2 assists. Omar Gaither had 7 tackles and an assist. Sherman Gregg had 4 tackles. In 33 pass plays, Trent Cole had 3 sacks, 2 knockdowns, and a hurry. Tommy Kelly had 1.5 sacks, 2 hurries, and 3 knockdowns. In 32 pass plays, Sherman Gregg only allowed 1 pass completion. Stephen Phillips was 0 of 3 in KRB's but allowed 0 sacks in 42 pass plays. Undrafted rookie Joel Thomason was 3 of 3 on KRB's but allowed 2 sacks on just 28 Pass Plays. Darren Howard went down in this last game with a strained achilles tendon and will miss 3 to 4 weeks. Winston Justice will miss the season opener S Michael Lewis, S Frank McGrath, CB Lito Shephard, and TE Glen Ogden all have minor injuries but will play through them. After some more consideration, Herremans will start the year as our starter, but we'll work Phillips into most games. Our first game is at Washington. Washington is starting Jason Campbell and he is developing into a very solid QB. Clinton Portis is still a decent back, but is clearly on the decline. Steve Breaston has developed into a 64/64 receiver, quite a bit lower than Ginn. Brandon Lloyd is a good #2 receiver. The left side of the line is good with Chris Samuels and Randy Thomas, but the right side of the line is weak with Devin Lelbert being a weakness at RG. The front 7 is solid with Rocky McIntosh being a 62/62 SLB. Carlos Rogers is one of the best CB's in the NFL, but Albert French is a weakness at the other CB position Sean Taylor is rated 78/78 but their other S Les Rinkenberg is only rated 18 currently. He is starting because Pierson Prioleau is out with an injury. |

I made a big mistake. Forgot to fix my Starter's playing time! Oops
Hopefully, it doesn't cost us (I did fix the starters how I wanted them, just not percentages of playing times.) Akers misses a 46 yard FG attempt on our first drive. This is hurting us already, but McDougle comes up with a big sack to stop them on their 2nd drive. So far our defense is still playing well. Akers connects on a 52 yard FG on our 2nd drive. 3-0. Despite mostly backups playing, we force another 3 and out. A 75 yard punt return by Greg Lewis was negated by holding on the punt return. Todd Herremans already has a few big blocks. Glad I started him. Scottie Abe is getting most of the carries because of my mistake, but is playing veyr well so far. End of 1: 3-0 lead for us. McNabb to Greg Lewis for a 17 yard TD... negated by Holding! We end up settling for a 36 yard FG. 6-0. Trent Cole with a few hurries to push them into 3rd and 10, but they convert. Campbell to Breaston for 46 yards puts them inside our 30. Campbell to Lloyd for a 6 yard TD. 7-6. 9:33 left in the half. Scottie Abe converts a 4th and 1 with his second effort at midfield. Brandon Hancock with a key run block on a 6 yard TD run by Scottie Abe! 13-7. Most of the drive was on the ground. With little time in the half left, we make it 20-7! We start with the ball in the 2nd half. Scottie Abe starts our drive with a 23 yard run! He has 10 carries for 75 yards and a TD so far. A FG makes it 23-7 early in the 3rd. We force a 3 and out. At least it looks like my stupid mistake isn't going to cost us the game. McNabb to Melvin Bryant for 20 yards. Midway through the 3rd, we make it 30-7. Late in the 3rd, Washington puts together a solid drive to get to our 1. Omar stops Portis the first time, but Portis with a 2 yard TD on the next play. 30-13 as we stop them from making a 2 point conversion. End of 3: 30-13, we are driving deep into their half. First play of the quarter, McNabb to LJ Smith for 22. Two plays later, Westbrook with a 1 yard TD run. 37-13. Our D-Line is getting trememndous pressure, but a roughing the kicker gives them a 1st down. Sean Considine goes down with an injury midway through the 4th Trent Cole is all over the QB. We kick a FG to make it 40-13 with 2 minutes left. Game over. 40-13 win! Week 1, 2009 played in Washington, DC 66 degrees, fair, 7 mph wind

Michael Lewis, Lito Sheppard, and Frank McGrath are now all 100%.
Winston Justice is probable, but with Marlon playing well, I'll give him a week to be 100%. Sean Considine is out for 2 weeks with a strained foot ligament. I hope he isn't too injury prone. Sheldon Brown has a strained hamstring that has a high chance of re-injury Brandon Hancock has shoulder tendinitis that he should be able to play through. So does Glen Ogden. Due to Brown's injury, I'm going to sign Fred Smoot to bolster our CB's. This necessitates the release of Jeremy Bloom who just never panned out. I'm also wishing I had kept our backup S from last year. I'm going to let McGrath start and hope that he can play well enough until Considine is 100% again. Greta's "Most Careful QB's": 10. Daunte Culpepper, Arizona 9. Alex Smith, SF 8. Jay Cutler, Den 7. Ben Roethlisberger, Pitt 6. Peyton Manning, IND 5. Jake Delhomme, Car 4. Matt Hasselbeck, Sea 3. Eli Manning, NYG 2. Carson Palmer, Cin 1. Tom Brady, NE Phillip Rivers was the offensive player of the week. He completed 28 of 46 for 395 yards with 4 TD's 0 INT's. Brady Quinn is starting for Detroit. he was 23 of 39 for 213 yards with a TD and no interceptions. Ronnie Brown led all backs with 22 carries for 144 yards and 2 TD's. Atlanta's #1 pick, Dave Mahoney, was next with 30 carries for 124 yards and a TD. Doug Gabriel, NE, led all receivers with 10 catches for 174 yards and 2 TD's. Julius Peppers, DE Carolina, was the defensive player of the week with 7 tackles and 3 sacks. |

Remembering that my scout is poor at QB's: He looks like a 11/72 QB with maxed out green bars in many areas, but limited bars in accuracy and read defense. Brady Quinn now looks like a 44/68 QB for them with weaknesses in accuracy and sense rush. He is very strong in read defense and the various throws though. |

Next up, we play at Denver. Denver is starting Jay Cutler who is now a 60 rated QB. Tatum Bell is a 48 rated HB who has been productive for them. Javon Walker is aging and is now a 50 rated WR. Barry Hicks is a young 43 rated WR alongside him. The offensive line is good on the left side, a bit weak on the right side.
The entire defense is good except for FS J.D. Nelson who is only rated 39. |
