Unfortunately that would be Zach Johnson not Dustin. Dustin had to pull out to have knee surgery which he's needed since July apparently at the British Open. Won't be back playing again till January some time.

That's what I meant. I just typed it too fast.

Color me unimpressed that he beat a hand picked field of only 18 players. He did make clutch putts coming down the stretch, but until he wins with a full field, I will hold off calling Tiger back.

Back to being Tiger? No. But results aside the last month is the best he's hit the ball in quite some time.

So I took third in my golf tournament today with a net 68 (gross 90). 2nd place shot a 67, and the winner shot a 66. First time I've ever placed, and I shot a great round of golf today, so I'm pretty pumped.

Except for my six three-putts. I actually had a string of six consecutive Greens in Regulation, and I only parred one of them. My putter was complete ass today. Incredibly frustrating round of golf for that reason alone. Still one of the best rounds I've ever golfed though - course is 70.9/130, par 72. My index is 19.1. I was striking the ball incredibly well today, and my accuracy with my irons was just this side of amazing.

Can't wait to get back out there again!

Edit: The course was Ridgemark Country Club in Hollister, CA.

NICE!!!

I miss playing golf.

I look forward to the summers when I'll have a chance to get back to my 30-40 rounds but that won't happen for quite some time...either when my girls move out or actually take an interest in it. The latter would be AWESOME!!!

Likewise. My 12 year old shows no interest nor aptitude in golf, so it'll be probably 10-16 more years before I can get back to playing (once my daughter grows up).

Mine are 5 and 3 and are "girly girls" thus far...we'll see if school changes that. I have taken the oldest to play mini-putt and she seems to enjoy that so hopefully that translates to "real" golf one day...like it did for me so many years ago.

Don't count on it. My 12 year old still likes mini-golf, but has no interest in the real thing.

Maybe my 2 year old daughter will be different. But with her 'tude (she was born a diva), giving her a metal club may not be the best of ideas.

Pretty damn close.

NBC picked up this final round coverage from Golf Channel. He's looking pretty confident and McDowell just bogeyed after getting within 3 to fall back down to 4.

His ball striking has been old Tiger-ish for several weeks now. His putting has been a disaster though. This weekend everything has been coming together for him and he's looked really good.

Love him or hate him golf is a hell of a lot more interesting when Tiger is playing well.

I don't really like Tiger, but I love watching him play golf. When he is himself, I don't think anybody in the world can still touch him. It's just a matter of being healthy and focused.

His putting touch has been much better this week for sure.

+1. Amazing to think his drought has made me want to see him win again and even become half of what he use to be.

Tiger hasn't even played super.. he's just managed to keep his head while everyone else was losing theirs.. he was the only one of the final fifteen or eighteen folders to be below par in round 4

There are two classic Tiger approaches. One is to stick around on Thursday and Friday and then go nuts on Saturday, take the lead and never look back. The other was what we saw this weekend ... Big round early, hold the lead Saturday, then never look back on Sunday. Only two guys in the whole field went lower than him today -- with the Sunday pins, going lower than 68 was almost impossible.

My disappointment is that I don't think we're going to ever get the full Tiger back. The current Tiger will win if he hits fairways, hits greens and makes putts. The only Tiger could miss eight fairways and still hit a three-iron stiff to scramble for birdie. He can still score birdies, but only if he's hitting fairways.

You know Tiger's going to be among the leaders on Sunday at Augusta ... if he can finally win there again, I'll believe he is fully back.

What does Tiger mean to sports TV ratings? Sunday overnights for golf were up +129% (4.8 vs. 2.1), while NCAA games down -17% (6.6 vs. 8.6).

On Masters Monday, some of the players were goofing around at practice, skipping shots across the water at 16, when this happens (2nd shot in video):

There'll be any number of good columns written about yesterday's Watson win, this is one of them.
Watson's win at Masters is good for golf

Completely agree. I rarely watch golf for longer than about 10 minutes, but I found myself glued to this Master's for nearly 3 hours yesterday.

A great win for Bubba on a helluva shot out of the woods there on the 10th hole.

It needed more lyrics. It's times like this were I wished Tiger wasn't so uptight so he would have included himself in this. Even if they did a transition to showing him sitting down with a drink in hand looking all classy busting out some rhymes. Something, just anything to help break down the walls between him and the masses.

Not to derail from pro golf, but anyone have any recommendations for a golf bag? I bought a new one a few years back and it's a pile of junk. I'll probably pick up a walking bag, as even though I cart it most of the time I do walk occasionally. Seems like it's a total preference kind of thing, but I'm open to any feedback before I buy.

Tiger Woods leads the Memorial by 1 stroke, after being down most of the day. The 3rd rounder leader Levin came back to the field. Rory Sabbitini was tied, but just bogeyed to go down by 1. Tiger is on 18 now. A win today would tie Jack Nicklaus with 73 career PGA tour victories. (Obviously a lot more events now than when Jack was playing...)

Sabbitini is in the final group, so he still has a shot to see what Tiger does and match it with two to go.

Tiger is look super confident though, which regardless of whether he wins outright or they go to a playoff, is good to see.

No video yet of the crazy shot Tiger hit to get himself back in this thing, but it'll be up there with one of his best ever.

Tiger just birdied 18 to finish -9. That should do it. 3 birdies in the last 4 holes to win this thing short of a magical finish by Sabbitini to tie it.

Jack called that the best shot he'd ever seen at the Memorial. It is funny to see Tiger still gets googly-eyed when talking to Jack, even though he has almost surpassed him.

If he plays like he did today? Damn skippy. He's never been much of a comeback artist in his pro career, so seeing him grind out a victory by hitting Tiger-like shots and attacking to take a victory he might not have otherwise got was pretty impressive. Without that shot on 16, he's only got a 1 stroke lead and I'm guessing one of those other two guys might have had the inspiration to try to birdie 17 or 18 to get tied or with him for a playoff.

But he played inspired golf. We'll see how he does at Olympic though.
