WEEK 2: Piscataway 16, Nottingham (Hamilton North) 10
--- Piscataway's QB Harvey Frost is a beast. He ran a Vick-like 41 times for 165 yards rushing and completed 7 of 10 passes, with no TDs. Our QB, B.J. Watkins (Sr.) was decent, throwing for 220 yards on 16 of 34 passing with a TD and an INT. I didn't expect us to win this game, I just wanted to get them toughened up and playing a Group IV opponent should do that for them. Hopefully, it'll bode well for sectional play.

We've got a tough game on our hands this coming week against Palisades Park. You wouldn't normally fear a Group I opponent, but, when they knocked off a perennial power like East Side (Newark) last week 34-7, you have to realize that they better be on your radar.
To make matters worse, we are 0-10 against them since 2004. This could be an interesting night, but I hope the boys will be productive against them and put up a good showing. Nothing is worse than starting the year 0-2. They've had a week off since the Piscataway loss, so hopefully, they're reading to turn a new leaf.

PALISADES PARK 48, NOTTINGHAM 17
We were tied 10-10 at halftime. Then they came out and put up 38 points in the 2nd half. There was 6 INTs in all in this game, 3 by each team. Our lack of a rushing attack hurts our cause considerably. But oh well. It'll keep them hungry going into next week and our rivalry game against Hamilton West.

We're favoured by 11 points against our rivals from across town.
But frankly, our offense has stunk up the joint up to this point. We'll be able to see if these boys have any meddle after this game.

NOTTINGHAM 37, HAMILTON WEST 3
As I expected, the boys rebounded hugely after two losses to top-tier opponents. We were supposed to destroy this team if we wanted to make a statement about our chances in the section and we managed to do that tonight. Code:

WEEK 7: NOTTINGHAM 63, HOLMDEL 7
We blitzed these guys bad. We were only 8 point favourites, but I think that we've made a statement that we'll be a force to be reckoned with in the section. We're 2-0 in the section now and have another tuneup game against West Winsdor-Plainsboro (2-4) after a bye next week, before our big-time showdown against Wall Twp which could decide the sectional title, barring any missteps.
I'm proud of the team today. They really showed up in a huge way. Code:

WEEK 10: #42 NOTTINGHAM (HAMILTON) V. #5 WALL TOWNSHIP
We've been gearing up for this game all year. The boys are ready and I dunno, it just feels weird. In all of my years of coaching, I can't remember a game that felt quite like this one.
Maybe it's knowing that quite possibly, losing this game would end our season. We're trying to stay positive as a coaching staff, we're new here and these boys - especially these seniors - are a bit anxious, we can tell. We had a meeting with the senior captains on Wednesday after practice. We told them that this is their team and that they need to throw out the past. That this is a new era of Nottingham football. That we have a new name, new attitude. That's the motto on our t-shirts we got them and that's the mantra going into the game. They seemed pretty fired up about it. We'll see what happens after Friday night.

WALL @ NOTTINGHAM (HAMILTON)
HAMILTON, NJ - Maybe this game doesn't seem like a big deal. But when you think about the history involved, then you start to understand it all a little better.
This game wasn't just about some kids playing a team that's made the playoffs, a perennial contender and all that. No way. This was about a team that was facing over a decades worth of history. In 11 straight years, Wall Twp. has beaten the team from Hamilton North/Nottingham. We came here facing a bunch of dejected, demoralized and ultimately, a club that needed a facelift. But this is high school. There are no free agents to sign. You can't woo a prized recruit into your hometown without dealing with all the sanctions that go with that. You work with what you get. And what we got, were 65 kids who felt that history needed to be changed in their favor. And they did it. Wall Twp. 31 Nottingham (Hamilton North) 38 2OT Wall rallied in the 4th quarter, scoring 14 points to tie the game and send it into overtime. The teams matched touchdowns to send the game into double OT. In the 2nd OT, Nottingham notched their 4th interception of the game, Cornell Duffy, a junior linebacker notched his 2nd interception of the season, leading to a 4 yard run by running back Sr. Toby Karamanos to give the Northstars the win, keeping them atop the Central Jersey Group 3 State Sectional race at 4-0 (4-2 overall). Senior QB B.J. Watkins was outstanding, throwing for 310 yards on 17 of 29 passing for 3 TDs and no interceptions. Meanwhile Wall Senior QB Tim Fortner threw for 4 INTs and 1 TD on 21 of 45 passing attempts for 253 yards on the day. Wall Head Coach Phil Capstick got his first loss in his 11 years at the school to Nottingham/North Hamilton and had nothing but praise. "These boys all played their hearts out and [Nottingham] had more at the end. I give them lots of credit. They came in here well prepared and didn't roll over." Nottingham travels to Princeton next week, continuing their question for their first ever state sectional title and a trip to the state championship tournament.

WEEK 11, 2015: NOTTINGHAM 42, PRINCETON 35
Another big game from QB B.J. Watkins. The senior QB threw for 291 yards on 23 of 31 passing with 3 TDs and no interceptions. RB Toby Karamanos came up big too. He had 174 total yards (114 rushing, 60 receiving) and 3 TDs on the day.
The 37th ranked Northstars face off against Lakewood (5-3) next week on the road again.

We beat Manalapan 42-3.
In the 1st Round of the state playoffs, we're playing against #12 Dwight Englewood HS. We're currently ranked #22 in the state. They're 2 point favourites in this game. I think we have a shot. They're about even with us in most team stats and so it'll really come down to who shows up in this one game for what - for all of us - is all the marbles. This team is 9-9 since 2005 in the playoffs, this is their 10th playoff appearance in as many years. Last year, they lost in the 1st round, but made the semis in 2013 and the Quarters in 2012. So their seniors have never missed the playoffs. They EXPECT to be here. Here's hoping our boys don't get too starry eyed on game night.

1ST ROUND - 2015 STATE PLAYOFFS
DWIGHT ENGLEWOOD 13
NOTTINGHAM 19 In our first ever state playoff game, the boys got the job done. It wasn't a pretty win, but it was still a win and enough to get us to playing again next week. We face a huge challenge in Newark Academy next week. Code:

2ND ROUND: 2015 STATE PLAYOFFS
NOTTINGHAM 21
NEWARK ACADEMY 41 I didn't expect us to win the game, so this is no big surprise. We still came a long way from an 0-2 start, it's been a respectable season and gives us something to build on for next year, I think. Here's to hoping our underclassmen can step up next season, too. Code:

NEW DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR
We hired Dustin Morse, from Fair Lawn, to be our new defensive coordinator. He's 30. He's a good playcaller, and his specialty are linebackers and secondary.
We'll see how it works out and helps us this coming season.

WEEK 2, 2016: PALISADES PARK V. NOTTINGHAM
We've never beaten them in 11 matchups since 2004. It's hard to really say who will step it up, because it's early in the year and we're not sure who they've brought back.
So, it'll be a crapshoot. We shall see.

PALISADES PARK @ NOTTINGHAM
We did our best to come back in the 4th quarter, but in the end it was not enough as we lose to these guys for our 12th straight year.
I was more interested in them having a respectable game and they did that. So I can't be too upset with the result. Code:

I was just looking at numbers. To understand Wall Township HS dominance in the Central Jersey Group 3, recognize that they're 90-4 in group play since 2004. They've obviously only lost the Group State Championship twice since 2004. That's just insane.
I don't know if there is a parallel for that sort of dominance anywhere else in the state since the beginning of this whole deal. But those numbers are downright impressive.

WEEK 5: LAKEWOOD @ NOTTINGHAM
We knocked off Lakewood in a drubbing that was actually expected to be a close game. I don't know why I read that B.J. Watkins was a senior last year, since he was really a junior. Anyway, he was outstanding and we managed to notch our 2nd win of the season. Next week, we face off against Princeton.
