And So it Begins...
Feb 13, 1672 - I declare war against Algiers. Our stability drops by two. I order armies in Libya, Tunis and Aures into the three Algierian provinces. Venice and Tripoli join us. Morocco and the Ottomans join Algiers (they had guaranteed their independence but were not allies). War, bloody war, and Najd and Iraq both join as well. I order my Tunisian fleet to the Canarian Sea, my Arguin troops into Rio de Oro and my army in Zamfara where I have a missionary to Tuat. I also order the Mecca army into Medina and the Gaza army into Al Karak, plus the Diamientia army is ordered to Tabouk. Glory for Songhai! Mar 1 - We arrive in Biskra, the capital of Algiers, and assault the defenders. Mar 3 - We crush the defenders and initiate the siege of Biskra. Mar 8 - A Morocco army arrives at Kabylia and begins a siege Marc 14 - We take Gafsa in a siege. I offer the Ottomans peace for 150 of our ducats and they accept so they are now out of the war. Makes it much, much easier, but I cannot take Medina in this war. I order my troops marching to Ottoman territory to halt. I order the Mecca troops into Najd territory. Apr 8 - We win in Cyrenaica and begin a siege here as well. Apr 24 - After a quick assault, Cyrenaica is now in our grasp. Apr 25 - Mahe is under siege by 1000 troops from Oman. Boy am I scared that my level 3 fort will fall to these 1000 attackers! This is why I pump up the fort levels on islands. May 1 - We win in Najd and begin a siege May 3 - Biskra falls to us. May 4 - Algiers accepts peace for Gafsa, Cyrenaica, some ducats, and they are now our vassal. Stage 1 completed

The beauty of this war is that I DOWd Algiers and got Morocco and Iraq in the bargain. I used my massive warscore to cut Morocco into pieces, which will make it harder for them to move troops around and such. We had a ton of success because of our higher land tech. Compare our 28 to Morocco’s 22 and Iraq’s 21.
I order a missionary to Barwe Alright, let’s take a look at the provinces I gained. Cyrenaica - 23313 Berber Sunnis work the wool trade here in this coastal province adjacent to Libya and our vassals Tripoli in Sirt. There is a textile manufactory and temple here, so we are making 17,94 ducats annually. Gafsa - 3652 Sunni Berber farmers work this internal province making us 6.97 ducats annually. This province is adjacne to Constantine, Tunis, Gabes, our vassal in Tripolitania, Aures and Algiers in Biskra. It comes with a workshop and temple. Tabouk - This former Iraqi province has 5353 Bedouin Arabic Shiite shepherds making us 20.10 ducats annually in part due to their textile manufactory. It also has a workshop, market place, temple and courthouse. It is adjacent to Gaza and Sinai in the north, and many othe nations, incluing the Turks, Najd and Iraq. If I take Medina, I will have a land connection to Mecca. Dongola - 6009 slave traders make us 15.56 ducats annually in this former colony. I order up a market place. All of the Morocco provinces are Sunni and Magreb Arab except for Oran which is Berber. Oran - This port is adjacent to Morocco in Al-Djazair and us in Tlemcen. Over a century ago, this is the province that was in Castillean hands but Morocco took it back in war, and now we pluck this wine province from them. 63394 Berber Sunnis make us 42.08 ducats here which includes a Refinery, Courthouse, Temple, Regimental Camp, Marketplace, Workshop and Constable. I order a Customs House too. Tlemcen - South of Oran and adjacent to Atlas, Aures and Morocco in Mellila and Al-Djazair lies the shepherd province of Tlemcen where 389781 wool traders make us 23.82 ducats annually with their Teltixle Manufactory, courthouse, temple, constable, workshop and marketplace. Atlas - Also rocking a regimental camp, textile manufactory, marketplace, worksop, temple and courthouse is the 11117 people of Atlas, making us 23.24 ducats in the wool trade. This province is adjacent to ours in Aures, Tlemcen and Figuig. Figuig - 14003 wool traders make us 20.05 ducats annually. Textile manufactory, constable, workshop, courthouse, market place and temple. Sus - This inland province is adjacent to Figuig and our ports in the west coast if Ifni and Sus. 46.63 ducats are made by the 5534 people in the gold trade here. Comes with Constable, workshop, marketplace, courthouse and temple. Ifni - On the western coast lies the 7263 fishermen making us 14.68 ducats annually. Next to Sus and Safi. Workshop, marketplace, constable, courthouse and temple. Safi - 21.12 dcuats are made in this textile manufactory town (wool). 13334 people have a workshop, marketplace, constable, temple and courthouse. As you can tell, we nipped a lot of textile manufactoreies, which will drive up our production tech amazingly. Oh, and my badboy took a major nosedive down, so we have to be a good boy for a while.

Mar 15 - I DOW Morocco. My stability drops one because I have a CB.

Toubkhal - Another coastal province connecting Tangiers and Ceuta to the north with Safi to the south and touching the Moroccan provinces of Marrakech and Fez to the east and southeast. 23418 shepherds make us 21.32 ducats annually largely supplemented by the textle manufactory here. It also comes with the basic five improvements seen elsewhere. I order a elvel 2 fort. The home of Sunni Berbers Mellila - 17314 Maghreb Arabic Sunni farmers make us 11.99 ducats. The ssame base five items are here with a regimental camp as a supplement. This coastal province is next to Atlas, Tlemcen and Ceuta, plus the Moroccan province of Fez. Al-Djzair - The NE corner of the remaining Moroccan territory was sliced off and handed to us in this war. 114390 Berber Sunni farmers make us 22.38 ducats annually with a solid portion of that coming from a University. The place also has the standard five buildings plus a regimental camp. I Promote Land Enclosures. I order a Customs House constructed here. This port is west of Kabylia, northwest of Biskra, north of Aured, east of Oran and northeast of Tlemcen. The result of this is that Morocco is down to four provinces - Rio de Oro and Tuat, which are former Portugese colonies, and Marrakech and Fez which are now cut off from water.

Apr 7 - Gift to Tripoli and Missionary to Malindi May 8 - Gift May 24 - Sliders time. I move one Centralization and get a small pretender rebellion in Whydah July 9 - Ag Rev in Fazughli Sept 15 - Rebels defeated Sept 18 - Dar Ja’al expands Dec 1 - Production Tech Increases Feb 1, 1699 - Tripoli accepts our offer. I destroy the COT in Tripolitania. Tripolitania - This port of 108634 Tuareg Sunni ivory traders makes us 32.39 ducats annually. There is a temple, regimental camp, workshop and courthouse here. I order a marketplace. Gabes and Gafsa are to the west and Sirt is to the east. Sirt - 11073 shepherds make us 20.90. The Tuareg Sunnis have a textile manufactory, and the exact same buildings as Tripolitania after that. I order a level 3 fort built here. Morocco is the only power left with any mainland provinces, although I consider Socotra and Madeira to be gettable as well, plus Madina.

300 Year Review
We have the third most prestige of any nation. We have 7% inflation We get 553 ducats income, whereas the next highest, Venice, gets 360, and France gets 355. We are several techs off the leader in every area We have not added to our armies in a while, nor have I updated our troops with the better troops available to me. As such we have dropped to 8th in army size. We still have 3rd most big ships though. Songhai now has 164 provinces. Great Britain is at 150 or so. France is at 123. Castille is right behind at 119 or 120. Alexandria and Timbuktu are #1 and #2 in the world in trade.

In celebration of 300 years of success. I would like to launch our final war.
Nov 19 - Another insult from the Ottomans Dec 1 - I have a spy fabricate claims against Morocco. I DOW Morocco. Our stability drops by one. I order armies into Tuat, Fez, Marrakech and Rio de Oro. Only Marrakech has an army of any size. Oman and the Ottomans join war against us. Dec 26 - Dar J’al expands and is now a full province Dar Ja’al - 6021 farmers make us 4.3 ducats annually. I order a fort here. Jan 7, 1700 - We win the Battle of Marrakech Jan 9 - Fez falls after an assault Feb 16 - I lose in Medina Feb 27 - Marrakech falls Apr 4 - We capture Tuat Apr 21 - Kano changed to Shiite May 30 - We fail an assault in Rio de Oro June 4 - Then we try again and they have so few defenders left we win. Morocco accepts peace for Fez, Tuat, Rio de Oro and vassalization. Now I can turn my forces east. I want to capture Socotra from Oman and Medina from the Ottomans

And that is the final war of the campaign. With Socotra in our hands, we have a new island province. With Medina in our hands, we now have land routes to Judea and Mecca. We have the three non-captial provinces of Morocco in our grasps and Morocco is now our vassal and will be assimilated everntually.
The only three provinces in all of Africa that are not ours are three unclaimed provinces by Dar Nuba and Dar Ja’al.

Alright, campaign done in 1701. Spend ten years absorbing terrain, dropping badboy which is rather high, then annex Morocco, then spend another 5 years reducing the rebellions and dropping badboy until I come out in 1715 or so firing on all cylinders with the only united continent in history. Then I’d have until 1821 or so to play around with a fully loaded Africa.
What else is happening in the world? No changes in Iberia. France has not gained land in Europe. Scandinavia is growing though. Venice has taken provinces in the Polish areas including Danzig. Mecklemburg has expanded into a 12 province power. The Golden Horde has almost destroyed Muscowy and is overcome almost all of Russia. The Ottomans are pushing here and there and have arm of territory around Hungary reaching as far inland as Sandomierz. Austria is down to 5 province. Venice is growing into Croatia and Slovenia. Virtually every province in the Americas has been claimed except the extreme inland ones. Great Britain and France are at a war, and all of the GB provinces in Canada have been captured. Perhaps France will be growing at the end of this year. Countries have been colonizing around their previous areas, just deeper. GB has colonized as far west as California although France has the western coast down to Baja California. There are a few coastal provinces in Alaska region open for colonization. No major changes in Central and South America. Even places like New Zealand, Tahiti, Somoa, Fiji, and such are getting gobbled up in the quest for land. The Mughal Empire has set up a few colonies in the Indies. Portugal, France and GB have conquered land from the natives to “colonize” the region and actually colonies have begun from GB, who now has cores here, as I predicted. GB is focusing on the Phillipines. Japan has swept through the mainland, taking most of Korea and most of Manchu. Ming is hemorrhaging provinces. It has lost most of SE Asia and Ryukyu has taken mainland provinces from it. The Mughals are trying to unite India under the Islamic Star and Crescent and succeeding.

My comments on the game.
As always, it still needs work in the trade goods area. Take Socotra, for example. In EU, it is represented by fish. There’s really nothing you can assign it. It wasn;t known as an area for naval supplies or grain or spices. However, in real life, Socotra was much more valuable, because on it grows the Dragon’s Blood Tree. This highly unusual plant can only be found in the island and its red sap was labelled Dragon’s Blood, and it was highly sought after as a dye. Add dyes to the game, and Socotra becomes more valuable, and you can use them to help other provinces as well (Libya springs to mind). Examples include whales, rubber, dyes, wax, and exotic foodstuffs. I’d have exotic foodstuffs found in the Americas only instead of grain. At first, they have a high trade value, but over time, their trade value harshly drops to that of grain (as nations around the world start to grow their own potatoes and peppers and such.). For Shamanist and Animist nations, however, exotic foodstuffs would have the same trade value as grain (ie very little, because they live there). I did like the variation of trade goods over time, so it made the game more dynamic. However, perhaps the goods were a bit too dynamic. I can’t ever see spices as anything but top 5 trade good, no matter what year or the economic status looks like. Spices caused the trips to the new world and around Africa to find alterative and cheap ways to purchase spices and take away from Venice’s stranglehold on the western European spice trade. A good that is that world changing should not be anywhere but at or near the very top. I really, really disliked the random trade good. I’ll be honest, I once did a quit and save on two occasions. One was when Fernando Po came up an ivory province and they other was when Taodeni did the same. Come on now. There are no elephants on islands or in the Sahara. It seemed like every province was the same three (grain, ivory, slaves) with very little variance unless you made it to the South African provinces or islands. Why couldn’t there have been more fish provinces, since virtually all of the provinces are coastal? Why not more extrapolation? Wine in hilly regions, for example. Don’t make things that don’t exist, like copper or iron mines in places where there was no copper or iron, but you could add naval supplies to jungles, for example, because there are numerous examples of jungle colonies that were timbered for ships in real life. No African empire would sell its own people into slavery for other countries, no matter how lucatrive. Can you see the Roman Empire selling its own citizens to the Germanic Tribes for cash? I would like to see you have a decision for provinces that allows you to switch from the current trade good to a random trade good assigned to that province. Make it cost some ducats and you lose one taxbase in the province permanently. If you don’t like it, switch again, and this time you can’t get either the first or the second good, but the cost in tax value, and now add manpower, and ducats is high. This would allow an African empire to audible out of slaves. Make the Europeans find other ways to get labor for their plantations. Add a bunch of events to cause issues with Africa empiers selling slaves. If a country has over 20 provinces, and has an African culture and over 10% of their provinces are slave provinces, start giving them some nasty stability hits and rebellions. I’d also want slaves to be more realistic. I’d like to see slave provinces LOSE people and tax value and manpower over time. I loved the decisions added in a previous expansion, and the missions were alright although they need tweaking. Too many were too hard or too easy, with sometimes lousy rewards and sometimes amazing rewards. I used spies here a lot more that previously and I;v ecome to appriacte them but they are really weak or strong abilities with few in the middle. I’d like to see some of them amped up in power. I’d love to see a spy with a steal maps option. The whole, I’ll be your ally and then a few days or a week later I cancel our alliance is very very problematic. I had serious issues with it the entire time. That needs to be fixed. Overall, a solid experience. Yay! Oh, and I knew I had won the dynasty when I took Timbuktu in the first couple of years. That was when I had enough economic power that I was able to form my own empire.
