This is not a knock but a legitimate question.

Is the game worth a buy if I already have previous FOF? Because of the minor at best aesthetic changes it is hard to tell a major difference is the game play/sim engine a major improvement?

Looking forward to digging deep into this demo. Regardless, thank you for providing us a quality Football Sim.

I always said it would be more fun if there was a lot more randomness to the draft. Now that it looks like it's happened I've changed my mind..... LOL

I'd love to hear someone give us thoughts on the new draft process. I won't have a chance to get the game for about a week

Drew, the answer to your question lies within this forum. Review the Q&A's. Lots of information on the changes. At the end of the day make your decision, I'm sure it will be to make a purchase.

I dont know if this has ever been brought up and I'm sure it has, but it seems it would be cool if we could pause the game at halftime and have a chance to change our game plans/strategies, etc. This would mirror real life pretty closely. I'm sure it's been brought up but I'm so into this game now and just thought I'd mention it.

Picked my Hawks and Russel Wilson's intelligence rating is only fair...uh...that's a little suspect! He has thrown 7 interceptions the first two games...might have to adjust him a little bit to actual!

How do I advance stages in the game? Got to the Stadium Proposal/Retain Staff stage and there's no evident way to advance after that. I'm obviously missing something.

Don't just the game by the attempt to rate current players. The game is much better with a fictional universe.

It only let's you advance when you are on XB1.

Seriously, there should be a button towards the top of the calendar window to advance.

Are you referring to the window with the color-blind writing? I see Choose New Team, Make Stadium Proposal, and Retain Staff.

So why the mix of teams in the draft here? Some stair-stepping of picks and KC alternates with JAX for some reason.

I'm pretty sure teams alternate if they had the same record, and one team drafted first because of SOS or whatever was used to determine that.

Yup. The NFL changed to that way a while back. That was there in the original FOF2K7 back in 2006 iirc.

Been playing aroundwith the game for a hour or so... Looks really smooth.

A few minor graphic issues:

1. The before-mentioned schedule colours.

2. The coulours on the position experience bar. Black on red is pretty tough on my eyes. Perhaps brightening the red would do the trick.

Besides that I'm excited. Very excited.

Thank you for what will become countless hours of enjoyment yet again Jim. And a special thank you for removing the need for change tracker :-)

What's the trick to creating new player files? Specifically, loading one. I selected start with alternate file (just like I used to do with 2k7), but it doesn't prompt for the alternate file--it just starts a new game with the default!

It's blasphemy I know, but I doubt I'll pick up this version, which will make this the first version of FOF I didn't purchase.

Maybe I'm wrong, but the changes listed look extremely incremental in nature. I'm not playing it, so it could be that what is listed impacts the game far more than I realize. But it doesn't appear so. It could be there are additional features and changes to come, but those aren't articulated, promised or in the current product.

Also, the price is $37, which astounded me. For that price I can get FOF or the newest version of Football Manager, which has in every way put the FOF series to shame. That's not a knock on FOF, but it is the truth - FM is just the best text-based sports sim ever created. OOTP is $20 now. I just can't see the justification in the price premium. I could see the justification in the premium of Distant Worlds + the expansions ($90), so it's not just the number. It's the number as compared to the competition.

I hope that those who do purchase enjoy the game and I'll follow this thread to see if something makes me change my mind. But right now I don't see it.

I thought the same thing but this game is way harder now. The game is better but not fancy.

Anybody else notice the improvements in the Roster Attributes screen?

Now shows if the player is on special teams and it looks like you can right click to change it.

Also had to laugh at Solevision new TV show - "Sweat Socks".

Havent't played a single week yet, but so far I am liking what I am seeing with the interface upgrades.

I hope I'm looking at the exported data right. Can I continuously just over-write those files and lose nothing? If so, that is outstanding.

Loving this game, was skeptical at first as aesthetically it looks very similar but under the hood its amazing. Was hoping for full routes from offense but otherwise very pleased.

OOTP is normally $40, not $20. To clear this up, OOTP is only $20 in the offseason since it is a yearly release. In 4 months, the next version will be released and probably be at the $40 price point the last few versions were upon release.

Eli manning threw for 6017 yards and 54 TD's

DeAngelo Williams had 2361 yards rushing
marshawn Lynch had 2202 yards rushing
Arian Foster had 2012 yards rushing

My season stats were more realistic

Rodgers had 42 tds

Foster had something around 1800
top receiver had 16 tds and 120+ catches and the top sacker had 18

Pretty reasonable

I'm running FOF7 on CrossOver and so far it's working fantastic with the exception of one issue. The scoreboard doesn't show up when playing a game -- since I don't typically call plays, it's not a deal breaker. But minor disappointment that I can't watch playoff games. I'm going to tinker around with why it's not working, so there may be a fix.

CrossOver has a two-week free trial. I got it it as part of a StackSocial pay-your-own-price bundle so it was a steal.

I haven't seen passing yards like that, but in my SP game, the rushing record has been broken three times in four years. Also, by 2016, the high passer rating was 92. Most yards passing was 4,300, and rushing leader had 1,900.

I'm pleased with both. Certainly there could be more eye candy and I'm sure it would help Jim from a sales/marketing aspect, but I really like the familiarity -- it makes the improvements stand out more and more easy to learn without having to relearn everything.

I had the same issue. Set the staff signing players to fill the roster to NO. That gave me full roster control.

The only other major thing I noticed is that the trade deadline is said to be week 8, but here I am with the "Trading may only take place..." message in week 7.

That price seemed reasonable enough to me in comparison to other sports text sims that I didn't think twice when ordering. Aren't we all middle aged men with professional jobs now? $37 is chump change, right?

VERY nice time-saver for SP: the AI will shuffle the roster for Out injuries without signing anyone. I may be able to play with injuries up to 225ish now.

Did have one 5000+ yard QB but one season is not enough to judge.

Like some of the new bells and whistles.

And I now confirm what someone said earlier in the thread: when these guys are healed, they are automatically put back on the Active roster. For SP for me...that...is....WONDERFUL.

I've seen numerous instances of this upgrade in end-of-half logic. The game is now able to let the clock run down before trying the final FG:

San Diego: Strong formation, strength is right. The defense is in a 34 with dime personnel and 3-deep zone coverage, keying aggressively on the pass. 2-10-OAK34 (2Q: 00:25) Brad Sorensen pass completed to RB Ryan Mathews for 13 yards. Tackled by OLB Paul Kruger. The quarterback threw away from the double coverage.

San Diego called a time out.

1-10-OAK21 (2Q: 00:03) Nick Novak attempted a 38 yard field goal and succeeded. San Diego 13, Oakland 10

got the game tonight, excited to start some single player. Everything is going smooth except when i click on the boxscores it won't outpout to a web page. It just pops up a browser that says "oops, the page you are looking for cannot be found"

anyone else have this issue?

Game Options-->Choose/Edit Color Scheme-->Use custom box and log browser.

Wow, this is awesome news. Thanks for your hard work Jim. I'm upgrading Windows soon so I'll hold off on buying the license until then, but I'm playing with the trial and it looks good. Just one issue so far... whenever I make a new game with the Falcons Matt Ryan's future rating peaks in the 60s and is often lower. Clearly he should be in the 80s-90s every time.
