Yeah, no kidding. I shake my head every year when we get to final roster tweaking. Our LBs have seen some heavy workload at DE over the years, but we've gone overboard. We have really good scouting and I feel good about being able to identify good front 7 guys generally... so I think this is mostly a function of me seeing shiny objects and just dumping them on the roster. The two LBs we took last year may not have played, and they both still look good. I wish it was a superstrat of some kind. It's just me not liking what I see at the other spots really. Sick of missing on shitty OL guys too. I was going to take a WR this year but really just felt like having our pick of whatever 42/42 guys are in FA2 was the better play. I mean... I think we were better. I think this is what pretty good defense looks like as long as we're playing this way. Top 5 in PRPct and PDefPct, facing 40 passes per game. It's just too many possessions to look at yardage or points without context. We've had better defenses, but this one is less of a disaster than some of our recent ones. I have no idea why Richey had a drastic cut in the interceptions. More checkdowns as our WRs slowly disintegrate around him? |

Cool, yeah. We're back on our playoff juice. Fascinating only because our sling-it-around offense kind of settled down and the D stepped up. Richey won the Bowl MVP but we sacked them 8 times too. Go figure. |

Richey goes quad... Bowl MVP, MVP, OPOY, and 1st Team All Pro.
WR Replogle is a 1st Team All Pro. First time in years we only had one WR make it. Botta had a good year but he's on fumes as he crosses the 1000 career reception line. Our kicker, Vincent Sherman, is a 1st Teamer. LB Terrance Grice gets another 1st Team nod after a 17 sack season. |

We put in for a maxed out stadium last year and I did not notice it had been approved. We are getting absolutely destroyed financially while it is being built. Will be cool when it's done though!
It sucks to see the WR crew on its last legs like this. This year, we need to bring in a couple bodies. I'm going to try to milk as many years out of Botta as I can, but it was different last year. Replogle still looks like a WR1 for us but he's a tough camp away from the same story. Richey broke the career passing touchdowns record this past season in this universe and sits at 380. If he's got 3-4 more years left and can get over 500 that's pretty respectable. |

As a sidenote, I'm annoyed by guys like DE Tim Vance that we were SO LUCKY to stumble into with our 4th round picks. The dude is clearly a blessed child of the FOF algorithms but he's entering year 4 and still not fully developed at 66/77. T-Grice will have 80 sacks and die before this guy hits full dev.

That guy goes all the way back to TCY, I think. Hard-coded as low development, even with high ceiling. In TCY, there would be schools you'd notice if you recruited really heavily in your home/focus state where they'd just spew out all these 19/85 talents, and even after four years the guy would still be 38/85. I'm not sure what that was supposed to mirror real from real life... but it's been a Solecismic thing for quite some time. (Fun aside...when you exported a FOF draft file from TCY, you'd see gobs of these high-upside guys end up as tip-top NFL prospects...some kid to goes to Auburn and gets 200 snaps his whole career on account of low development, so he never develops, he graduates rated 29/90 and then gets drafted ahead of the Heisman winner, who was rated 66/66) |

For sure. I loved that quirk. I'm guessing we're still weeks or months away from me dusting off TCY and cackling to myself at the imported draft classes in the middle of the night. Vance has been playing. A ton. I guess we're having enough success, but come on dude. I just want to feel like I've got one of them real live 75+ guys on the roster, even if it's scout error drunkenness. |

I think there's a fair amount here that could look promising, but it feels mostly as though we've lost the mildly explosive element that made us a dominant offense. We led the league in scoring, but the 26.8 ppg number is pretty pedestrian. On the flip side, the less explosive element made us more efficient as a ball control offense? Richey's personal completion percentage was 65.6%, far and away his best in a long career. Yards per completion the lowest in his career. Our longest passing play of the year was a 39 yard reception. That feels a tick flukey, but still, I think this is the end game of watching our receiving corps erode down into the 40s and below. We look kind of bad defensively. The yardage and some of the totals come down with the offense slowing and possessions becoming less of an issue. We stopped the run. We were a bottom third team against the pass, maybe worse, with no separating performances on the defensive side of the ball. DE Vance is somehow still showing as 66/79 with 7 dev. It's mocking me really. We get a bye and actually appear to be the 1 seed in a conference where the other division winners all went 10-6. I do wonder if we're seeing too much general parity. That could be contributing to our playoff success. If we were running into a few very good teams every year in the playoffs, I think we'd have a very different track record. Instead, we're kind of facing the .500 type teams that got a couple good bounces and won their division without much separation. (It feels like that at least. Some quick clicking back makes this seem like potentially an issue but not a large one. It would be fun to see stretches of true dominance from an AI squad though.) We will get smoked now that I'm talking this way, but it will be deserved. |

We play really well in the first two games. We get completely killed in the Bowl. It doesn't really matter, but Richey got pulled in the third quarter after throwing 3 picks and looking like crap. I would argue that our maximum setting for his playing time in the game plan probably means he should stay in there, but sure, yeah, get the undrafted rookie backup some Bowl reps. We deserved our fate. |

WR Replogle is a 2nd Team All Pro. CB Curtis Stringer, who had 6 picks, sneaks onto the 2nd Team as well.
QB Richey is the League MVP. He is not 1st or 2nd Team QB. He is not the OPOY. I don't track this sort of thing that closely, but that stands out for me at least in my easily retrievable memory. Chalk one up for the reputation vote. It is his seventh MVP award. He's at 57,010 passing yards. 61,655 is the Brett Favre Award Steam Achievement we are basically chasing at this point. I still think it's pretty much there for us, but I had sort of assumed he'd break through that mark next season. 4600+ is definitely not a lock with where we're trending. And next year will be his 13th season. I think he'd come back, but we're suddenly at least in a mildly plausible scenario where he takes another -7 in camp and walks away. We also need to feed Mercury Botta if he comes back next year as well. He's falling off a cliff, playing the year at 39/39 but he's got a look at 1300 career catches if we force it. (He's sitting at 1126 through eleven seasons.) It feels like we've got two more years of chasing the dying chapters of our stat whore guys. I think I'm ready to flip the gameplan around and try something fresh at that point. |

WR Tyrus Aguiar retires. He's got 5 rings and 4 1st/2nd Team All Pro years. He didn't quite get to 10k receiving yards and ended with 835 catches. He had a little resurgence for us last year with 49 catches but he was sub-30 on the overall rating. I think it's probably a HOF career.

We're going to lose some guys to FA this year. We're also in something heading toward cap hell. We'll need to throw a few cap outs into the mix to keep the group together. I don't think we're in a place where I need to go back into the accounting weeds of the first few years of this career, but we're definitely up against the cap now. The lack of WR talent is obvious. We're fading or thinning at a bunch of spots though. The OL feels perpetually meh, and we might have to play some of these low end tackles we've been hoarding when RT Rayburn finally dies. The DL is suddenly expensive. DE Vance is suddenly a 66/66 with 7 dev. We might have to call in Columbo, a priest, Holmes/Watson, etc, to crack that one. Rome isn't quite burning but it might be boring. We'll try to find some additions and run most of this crew back. |

I know, I know. I'm in on Shanks though. I think he's our next great pass rusher and he's not as one-dimensional as Grice. Cool name too. The WR is another competent piece. Chasing need a little. Same with the DE, we're suddenly light on bigger bodies. |

Huh. So tackle Harry Abrams is suspended for off-field conduct. He's started for us at one or both spots for the last seven seasons. If RT Rayburn takes a hit here in year 12, we will be on shaky footing. We took a tackle, RT Brayden Land, in the draft last year and he's in line to play a ton now no matter what happens.
Our two very good 4th year LBs are holding out in the last year of their contracts. I think we have the cash to extend one and it will probably be WLB McKenzie. I guess we're back to the part of the program where we let 70/70 LBs walk away. Pre-Season snapshot: Code:
Richey goes -7. Ok. Some of our LBs start fading too. MLB Blackwell is supposed to cover for losing the holdout Gerth, but he drops. WR Mercury Botta kind of holds in at 37/37 and we've got him slated to get targets. Eh. We've got questions. Richey fading. Should have some things going for us to break our fall a little. |

First off, the important stuff... Richey threw for 4800 yards and hit the number he needed in Week 17. We may have overdone it a little with the "get Botta some targets" approach as he had 142 catches. 5.97 ypt makes that look a little inefficient, but I'm going to take the 68%+ completion percentage and move on. He's at 1268 catches now and in really good position to get over 1300. There's a lot here that makes this look like our best team in quite awhile. Richey cleaned up some turnover stuff in the second half of the season and we're riding a nine game winning streak. The defense looks much improved. We've continued to tweak there, but I'm generally of the mind we had better offense or something else going. The sack bonanzas seem to have fallen off the last two years. We slimmed Grice's formations a tick over that time, and he's still been very productive on hurries etc. Fewer sacks though. Something for me to think on if I dare. Maybe we're good. We look kind of good. |

G Mason King and LB Troy Pelletier retire. King has been a stalwart for us. Our one truly successful C to another spot position change. He was a 60+ G for us for almost the entirety of his 11 year career before dipping at the end. He was a starter for us that whole stretch and won 4 rings. Pelletier had a little run as a big time part of our edge rush and then just kind of kept coming back the last four years in a marginal role. He won four rings as well.
QB Richey and WR Botta are back. So is LB Thomas Rhodes, who is another of our once defensive centerpieces who hasn't done much in about four years. It's cool to see him come back. He and Richey were in that first class of Dragons. They're both coming back for season 14. I like the symmetry there, even if I'm probably ultimately rooting for Richey to outlast him. Richey is a little over a thousand passing yards shy of the career record in this universe. There's basically zero chance we don't get him there unless he loses multiple appendages. Botta put himself in some kind of outside chance position to get to the career receptions mark if we force it as well. 1397 is the current record and he's at 1268. I would have written him off but 129 doesn't seem so far-fetched coming off a 142 catch season. We're definitely stat-chasing if he gets there. I don't really love any of our next generation of WRs yet, but one or two are ready to take the baton if we're being impartial. (We're not.) The Frederick team that beat us in the conference final has been the most consistently successful AI team. The best overall record at 332-208-4, a .613 winning percentage. They've been to the playoffs 21 times and won 2 Bowls. They lost the Bowl last year to Toronto. Not surprisingly, their success has been riding pretty heavily on a smooth transition between two good QBs and 12+ year runs with each of them. It's probably at least another 15 years of similar play by us to get to the top of the Team Performances board. |

Offseason look. We're going to lose RB Miguel Saba and MLB Victor Gerth. Gerth held out, and we sort of cut his playing time just by virtue of knowing he'd be leaving and wanting to see if other guys could handle things. RB Saba has been really productive in an offense that really wasn't all that RB-friendly in the past. I don't know how that will shake out. Is he a special talent? Right place right time with some of our other good things going? Unfortunately, we're going to find out. |

He done did it again. We need the DE bodies, especially as a run stopper with some of these edge rush one trick ponies we're obsessed with. Adams looks like if nothing else he can line up at all of our DL spots and help balance our group. I'm worried about the OL perpetually, but with King retiring I'm chasing a really developed G in Kerry Diaz here. He needs to start immediately. As long as he's a 50+ future guy who is very developed, we're happy. And I just get underwhelmed by the skill talent at these spots. An LB named Silas Young who can rush the passer. A year after we took another one named Mercury Shanks? I mean these are COOL names. These are LINEBACKERS. I start drinking in the MID TO LATE AFTERNOON/MORNING. |

Stay as long as you like. I don't even care that you're already booked on a non-refundable flight to -8CampCrashCity. It is all good. Come chase that receptions record with us.

Botta literally goes -8 which means the little men in the computer are reading my posts again. Not good. We look competent. The rookie Guard looks good enough to do what we're asking him to do. I'm also blown away by RT(LT) Lester Rayburn who has basically held serve as this 50ish dude with a big pass blocking bar for 13 seasons. I think we're going to force feed Botta until the early results are bad. Cohesion. Let's go. Mercury Shanks is getting his chance to be the RDE of the future. DE Tim Vance is a completely WTFable 66/66 with 7 dev still. He's in year 6 with 80 games and 67 starts under his belt. He has 11 intelligence? He has DEVIN MCCOURTY, the greatest DL mind of his generation, as a Head Coach and still can't find his way to full dev. I don't want to understand. 76% Developed on the player card. We were completely shut out of the Awards.
We were apparently not very good despite going 13-3. Mercury Botta is at 1367 catches and 30 short of the career record in this universe. We dialed down his targets in the second half of the season because he was at 4.7 ypt in the first half. And that's below average. He might come back to break the record. He's sub-30 overall by our grades at this point. Our pass rush took a step back this year. Mercury Shanks got outsacked by Tim "Can't Ad" Vance. The defense was a quite good 16.9 points allowed/game. I'm a bit mystified by the insane turnover situation. Richey seemed to lose a little. The "running game" didn't skip a beat after losing Saba. We were a weird good team that got stomped in the Bowl. That's my story. |

Lot of retirements.
LB Thomas Rhodes is finally done. RIP Original Dragon. RT Lester Rayburn goes out exactly as he played every other year. LT Harry Abrams hangs them up after a lot of starts and a weird final chapter with a suspension/bench role. LB Terrance Grice. He burned hot. Still got to 93 sacks even after we gutted his playing time this year. Career PRPct of 9.5%. Pretty good man. 7th All Time in Blocked Passes. Ok. 4 times on that All Pro list. Money. DPOY in 2049. 2 Rings. I mean there's a chance he turns this 8 year career into a mustard jacket. We could have squeezed a little more here. I thought Shanks was ready. Everyone else comes back. Botta is shameless. |

Give him the 30 catches and be done with him. 5 or 6 games should be sufficient, or just 5 targets per game.

It's been coming for awhile (so long we kind of forgot about it), but we're finally looking at a complete void at LT. I'm convinced that spot really matters, and not just for a heavy passing team. We'll see how we patch that one and if we're able to weather it. Richey in year 15. Botta chasing his 30 catches. The last year before we move into our new stadium. Ch-ch-ch-changes. We knew we had to take at least one LT. Ackerman was the guy most ready to play. I think there's a UDR or two we'll pursue as well. DT St John looks like he might be really good in limited use. Getting back in. Not a bad thing to squint our way back into this roster and hopefully look to shake it up a little after this year with some retirements. Here's the group before Week 1. WR Botta is gonna get some targets early. We'll see where we go with some of the other spots. I think we're a solid team. Richey dropping to 35/35 and Botta to 26/26 is a definite storyline. |

We close the year with 5 straight losses. I have a hard time believing it's coincidence. Botta finally got the career receptions record and we were sitting at 9-2. I took him out of some formations and we went to crap. Cohesion? Botta ended this year with an insane 43 catches and 3.6 ypt. We put him back into his early season slots for the last game of the year. We still lost. This is a weird team. Richey got to 70k passing yards this year and over 500 passing TDs. Cool milestones. He might be a corpse propped up by a decent system at this point. The D stinks. No identity. No standouts. We've tried to force Mercury Shanks into a star role and he hasn't come through. He seems to be developing slowly as well. DE Vance or my install is obviously broken too, he's still at 76% developed. I'm looking forward to flipping it around here. It's time. |

WR Mercury Botta retires. He goes out as the All-Time Receptions leader with 1410. He won 5 rings in his career. It was definitely a weird end. He died doing what he loved, catching little dink passes and going nowhere.
TE Jeffrey Dennis also retires. He had a sneaky 11 seasons and 4 rings with us as well. Head Coach Devin McCourty calls it quits. Everyone has the good sense to ride off into the sunset except QB Richey apparently. He ends up with 21 years of HC experience, and 20 straight playoff appearances. He won 9 Bowls and appeared in 4 others. 282-108 career record. Good run. |

Former SS Timothy Bordley makes the Hall of Fame. He goes in as a Dragon. Two other Hanalei draftees go in as part of the 2055 class as well. CB Jerry Borders and WR Gerald Beeson. Both spent more years with another team, but Beeson, especially, had his best years in Hanalei.
Our new stadium is done, and it's spectacular. It has also destroyed our finances and we'll have to try to replace HC McCourty from the #32 spot in the Staff Draft. |

Nice run given the house rules. Looking forward to seeing what you can find to replenish the offense

Toying with a straight misfit run, or something where renegotiations aren't allowed with some kind of cap crunch. The elusive SP house rules that are kind of simple but don't feel like a complete contortionist act and I can still kind of fall in love with some goofy guys and follow a career.
Leaning misfit. I'm not sure anyone really wants to follow me playing the game without draft shenanigans but posting little team summary text grabs seems to keep some kind of wind behind me. |
