December 2019
What is the single worst piece of news one could receive about this team? C Joe Davis has been suspended due to poor academic performance. I change up my strategy to a balanced shooting attack and hope to survive through the month. December 1st, 2019 Arkansas-Pine Bluff(0-3) at Campbell(0-4) Someone has to win a game, and today it's the Camels, 70-55. Freddie HEnry and Tim Smith look good as my go-to guys today. Code:
December 4th, 2019 Campbell(1-4) at Florida Atlantic(2-0) We play them close, but fall by 5, 87-82. We had severe foul trouble today. Code:
December 7th, 2019 Campbell(1-5) at Troy State(3-1) Another day, another loss. It's 91-80 today. We shot 51% today, but Troy State shot 65%! ![]() Code:
December 10th, 2019 Arkansas Little Rock(2-3) at Campbell(1-6) Thankfully, a non-conference game today. I drop our pressing and trapping numbers to try to limit my foul trouble. We fall again, 67-55 today, and the AD must be really pissed at me right now. Code:
December 14th, 2019 Alabama A&M(2-3) at Campbell(1-7) This is getting really really ugly. Code:
December 18th, 2019 Georgia State(6-2) at Campbell(1-8) Today, out of nowhere, we pull off a huge win over a top team in the league! A 42-29 rebounding edge is the main reason for the win today. Code:
December 21st, 2019 Liberty(2-5) at Campbell(2-8) A solid win today by 9 gives us a 2 game winning streak. Our backup center was big today, 16 points/8 boards from Frederick Todd. Code:
December 25th, 2019 Campbell(3-8) at Georgia State(6-3) It's unfortunate I don't get a shot at this team with Davis back, but here we are on Christmas day. We get another huge win in conference play, 73-64! Tim Smith is the star today, with 27 points! We limit Ga State to 41% from the field. Code:
December 28th, 2019 Florida Atlantic(5-3) at Campbell(4-8) Another team I wish we could play w/ Davis. They crush us a 2nd time, 89-66. Code:
That ends the month, and it could have been worse without Davis on board. We are in a decent position if we can get hot in conference play in January. Code:

January 2020
We get our 4th recruit on the year, and things are looking up. We land another PG, this one is a decent shooter and decent defender, more likely a SG than anything. Code:
Our big boy is back and I expect immediate results. January 1st, 2019 Prairie View A&M(5-5) at Campbell(4-9) We pull off the 68-61 win, Davis gives us a double double, and Henry helps out with 13 also. Code:
January 8th, 2019 Campbell(6-9) at Jacksonville(7-6) This is a big game for us, we need to start winning in conference now that we have all our players. It's close, but we fall... 79-76, very disappointing. Code:
January 13th, 2019 Stetson(3-10) at Campbell(5-10) Better today, but still, this is a bad Stetson team and we only won by 6 at home. Look at those fouls! Look at Octavio Ricks in a backup role! Code:
I switch to a 2-3 zone from man to man, annoying b/c we have nearly mastered man to man, but I can't have 25 fouls a game, hopefully the zone will help with that. January 15th, 2019 Campbell(6-10) at Jacksonville State(6-8) Another close one, another frustrating road defeat, 76-73 today. We still have massive foul trouble, Davis gives me 35 inutes today though. Code:
January 18th, 2019 Campbell(6-11) at Louisiana-Monroe(7-10) UGH. A 1 point road loss. We are so close to being a winning team. Instead we are 6-12 and at the bottom of the conference. Code:
January 25th, 2019 Troy State(9-5) at Campbell(6-12) I make a few changes, Henry moves to SG and backup Grubbs will play PG for us. Chris Strain has been nothing special and moves to the bench. We get a solid home win today, 72-59. Our defense is great, they only shoot 38%, and we dominate the glass. Code:
January 29th, 2019 Campbell(7-12) at William & Mary(10-9) Our chance to make a run in the conference starts here, we have lost our last 3 on the road by 3 or less each. Today, we pull off the 5 point win and are hopefully on our way. Code:
That ends a frustrating January, but our hopes aren't dashed yet for a good conference showing. Code:
We can still go 12-6 in conference play, I really hope we can get to 10 wins at least though. Code:

February 2020
No recruits this month, but I don't expect much from here on out. I have landed four pretty good players after all. February 1st, 2020 Jacksonville(11-7) at Campbell(8-12) Jacksonville is 2nd in league play right now. We beat them by 6 to get a huge home win! Davis comes up very big today, 21 points/10 boards, and Tim Smith is perfect from the field for 16 points. Code:
February 5th, 2020 William & Mary(11-10) at Campbell(9-12) All of a sudden, 6-6 is good for 4th in the conference. That, of course, means the middle of the league is packed tight together. We need this win to begin to separate ourselves. UGH. 10 point home loss. Dammit. Code:
February 8th, 2020 Radford(9-11) at Campbell(9-13) This is looking like a mega collapse now... a 14 point loss. What'd I do? Code:
February 10th, 2020 Louisiana-Monroe(11-11)at Campbell(9-14) From 4th to 8th in 2 games... a 6 point win today helps us out a lot. Davis only gave us 15 minutes before fouling out today, but luckily our backups were awesome. Code:
February 15th, 2020 Campbell(10-14) at Radford(10-11) Another shot to go back up to .500 in conference play, but we just can't win, we fall hard, by 16. Code:
February 19th, 2020 Central Florida(10-14) at Campbell(10-15) Wow, where has this Campbell team been all year? We win by 30, holding Central Florida to 48 points. Code:
February 26th, 2020 Campbell(11-15) at Stetson(10-16) And just like that, we fall by 30, what is this team??? Code:
March 3rd, 2020 Campbell(11-16) at UNC-Greensboro(12-15) We close out the year in a non-conference game. We fall pretty hard again, by 19. Code:
I'd like to think it'll be better next year, if we get a next year, with some improvement from everyone, and with a better recruiting class coming in. Code:
Once again, we barely earn the right to play in the conference tournament. Code:

Atlantic Sun Tournament
(1) Florida Atlantic(19-9) vs (8) Campbell(11-17) These guys beat us very very badly twice this year. We hope to steal one today to keep our season alive. We trail by as many as 15 early in the game, but go on an absolute tear to take a 65-62 lead midway through the second half... It's back and forth the rest of the way... With 4 minutes left it's 86-85 Florida Atlantic. They get another bucket to go up 88-85, Freddie Henry makes it 88-87, a FT makes it 89-87, then Joe Davis makes it a tie game again with a jumper. Davis fouls out shortly after, allowing Fla Atlantic a 3 point play, and they go up 92-89. Another Florida Atlantic Bucket puts them up 5, but then we go on a 4-0 run and trail only by 1, with 30 seconds left in the game. 15 seconds to go, Campbell has the ball, down by 1, Shaun Grubbs gets a shot from the fT line, but it's off the mark, and we fall by 1 point. So close! Code:
Florida Atlantic goes on to win the conference tournament and takes a 22-9 record into the NCAA tournament. Florida Atlantic is a 13 seed in the NCAA tourney and will play 4 seed Nevada. Nevada beats Florida Atlantic by 7, ending the Atlantic Sun season. Our final four pits (2) Arizona vs (2) Pitt, and (1) Michigan State vs (1) UConn, two blowouts give us an Arizona vs Michigan State final, which underdog Arizona wins their 4th national title! Code:
We only have two seniors leaving this year. Freddie Henry started for two years and fought through an ACL injury that sidelined him for a full season. Code:
Fredrick Todd started only when Davis went out for academic reasons. Code:
On that note, we end the season and hope to not get fired. |

2020-2021 Season
I haven't been fired! At least not yet. Campbell's solid class ranks us #59 in the nation, and I am very happy about our chances in the coming years. I spent a number of years way way overshooting our recruit level, and have now settled back down to a more realistic level. There is no conference movement this season. |

Back to the start of the 2020-2021 season.
I haven't been fired, but I'm in trouble. Code:
I really don't know if I have the team to do that or not. i have some very good incoming freshmen and I really can't redshirt them all so hopefully I can find a couple that can seriously contribute. My screw-up was that I over-reached badly in recruiting for about 3 years in a row and my talent level has been down overall. I think I am back on the right track now though if I get the chance to see it through. Code:
The last two seasons have been horrible. Skydog I am not. I hire a new recruiting co-ordinator. Donnie Farwell has a 53 recruiting level. I request more time to improve, and the AD is nice to me, looks like I have another year. I fill my schedule again, 4 games or so I have almost no chance of winning, and I get Wake Forest to come to Buies Creek. I have 4 scholarships to fill again this year. Center is my lowest need but I will just take the talent where I can find it. I head into the last month of early recruiting with 4 scholarships offered, all four of them viewing me very highly. I lose one of them unfortunately, losing a solid center to UMass. I get one too though! Joshua Morales isn't going to play too much defense, but he can score inside and he has very good hands, I may play him at SF as his Perimeter Defense might actually be better than his inside defense. Roster Review
Code:
Stamp could actually be a decent walk on. 7'2", strong, and his inside potential is a B. Boling has developed some moderate scoring talent to go along with his great D and rebounding. Carey's 63 ball handling and 78 passing sets him up to be my best point guard ever. He's also one of the few JC players I've recruited, so I've only got him for two years. Code:
I expect great things from the Davis/Boling combo down low. I'm going to give Frank Gomes a chance to be my SF, but I have Tim Smith ready to go, Strain is my SG and Carey gets to play the point, a pretty obvious lineup this year. I run an offense with average pace, average motion, and an inside focus, Davis is my only go-to player. |

November 2020
Alabama A&M(0-0) at Campbell(0-0) We are very very suprised at the result today, an 84-83 loss at home. We commit a massive number of fouls and that hurts us despite outplaying them everywhere else. Code:
I remember these problems at the start of last year. I slow down the pace, go zone, screw man to man, and cut down on the pressing a bit, it seems to hurt this team more than it helps. November 19th, 2020 Campbell(0-1) at #9 Arizona(0-0) Arizona beats us by 14 today. Davis and Carey have big games for us and I think this streategy in general is a better one. Code:
November 23rd, 2020 Bethune-Cookman(1-1) at Campbell(0-2) We expect our first win here, and boy do we ever get it, the final is 75-45 today. Our 50% shooting to their 29%, we outrebound them by 23, 10 more assists, and they commit twice as many fouls. Code:
November 26th, 2020 Campbell(1-2) at NC A&T(0-1) We went with a few of the easier teams on the road this year to try and pick up some big road wins. We get one today and pull even at 2-2, the final is 78-71. Frank Gomes is playing some good ball starting at SF for me. Code:
November 29th, 2020 Oral Roberts(3-1) at Campbell(2-2) Another blowout win over a worse team at home, I am thinking that things are looking up here, but we will have to wait and see when the conference teams come to play. Code:
The inside focus seems to have really helped Strain, who is a good spot-up shooter and not much more. We end November 3-2, with one auto-loss and one game we should have won but were setup very poorly. Code:
Code:
Carey's 5.8 assists per game would easily destroy any season records I have... I don't think I've been valuing a good passing PG nearly enough, I think this guyis making us a lot better. |

December 2020
I land my second recruit. Vincent Hennessey is a SG in a PG's body. He looks like he could be a big time scorer, but his hands don't really make him look like a PG. His perimeter D is weak but his high steals will give him some value on the defensive end anyway. Code:
December 2nd, 2020 Georgia State(2-3) at Campbell(3-2) Georgia State is a little down this year(just a little though it appears), and we are able to take them out at home, 51-50! Boling has one of his best games ever with 18 points and 13 boards, 7 of them on the offensive end. Code:
December 5th, 2020 Stetson(3-2) at Campbell(4-2) We get massacred today at home, and this one makes me worry. We only make 19 FGs to their 32 today... ouch. Stetson also hits 60% of their 3s, this was just nasty. Code:
December 9th, 2020 Campbell(4-3) at St Louis(2-3) Today we play a mid-level team in a top conference, we expect to lose, and we do, badly, another 20+ loss. Code:
December 13th, 2020 Southeastern Louisiana(4-2) at Campbell(4-4) We're able to snap our losing streak at home today with an 88-76 win. Davis is a monster today with 28 points and 9 boards. Boling has a double-double and Strain also puts up over 20 points. A 48-20 rebounding edge is whee we won this one. Code:
December 16th, 2020 Campbell(5-4) at Troy State(1-7) I hate these games, the ass end of the conference on the road, these are nothing but traps for me. We get the road win today though, 85-80 and I can breathe easy. Davis has one of his best games ever with 30 points, Boling gives us another 13 down low and Grubbs comes of the bench for 13. Code:
December 23rd, 2020 #5 Wake Forest(9-0) at Campbell(6-4) We had no idea they were this good when we agreed to play them, but hey, we want a few top 50 teams, right? They shut down Joe Davis, limiting him to 8 points on 3-15 shooting, and we have no chance. Code:
December 26th, 2020 Campbell(6-5) at William & Mary(8-2) W&M is 3-1 in conference play, we're 2-1 early on. Their PG is hurt, which helps us. W&M is 6th in points allowed in the nation at 55.2(averaging 67 ppg themselves). The averages nearly hold up, as we fall 61-52 at their home. Code:
December 31st, 2020 Campbell(6-6) at #6 Duke() We'll fall below .500 here but 3 of the losses are to top 10 teams. We play a pretty damn good game here, it's only 66-60. Code:
That ends 2020, and December. Code:
We have lost to the top two teams and beaten the bottom two... we really don't know where we stand yet. Code:
Code:
I move Gomes down to my 6th man and Tim Smith back up into the starting lineup. |

January 2021
I have filled my recruiting class. I now have two PF and two PG coming in next year, but one of the PF is more of a SF, and one of the PG is more of a SG... interesting setup. I'm not quite sure what to make of Joseph Kitchen, his Defense is average and he isn't much of a rebounder, but the 22 ppg in high school and the A rating and the pretty good Strength made me want to try him out. Code:
My final recruit could be an ok scorer eventually, his jump shot potential makes me wonder if he could make it eventually. If not, he has good hands and should be a good defender. Code:
We are now done with recruiting, this class combined with last year's hopefully have us on the way up. January 6th, 2021 Campbell(6-7) at Georgia State(4-9) Georgia State is at the bottom of the conference w/ Troy State right now, we need to be able to drop them on the road. We are able to and we move back to 3-2 in conference play. Code:
January 12th, 2021 Campbell(7-7) at Jacksonville(5-8) I am suprised to see us get blown out here.. a loss, ok, but a 29 point loss?? Code:
January 15th, 2021 Campbell(7-8) at Binghamton(7-5) A tough 3 point loss here in non-conference play drops us to 7-9, hopefully this is not the start of a slide. Code:
Davis got hurt in our last game and will not be full strength, but he will be seeing some action in our next game. January 20th, 2021 Jacksonville(7-9) at CAmpbell(7-9) We get the split against these guys in a 77-73 win and we are back to 4-3 in conference play. Code:
January 23rd, 2021 Campbell(8-9) at Jacksonville State(5-12) These guys don't look good at all, and we handle them well on the road, picking up a 15 point win. Davis looks solid for the first time in awhile and we shoot 61% in this blowout. Code:
January 27th, 2021 Central Florida(7-11) at Campbell(9-9) Central Florida is 4-4 in conference play. They do have two starters out, which is nice for us. We get a big home win here, 77-57, moving us to 6-3 in conference play and hopefully settling us in among the definite top 3 in the league. Davis gave us another good game today in the win. Code:
January 30th, 2021 Jacksonville State(6-13) at Campbell(10-9) This should be an automatic for us, but I've learned there is just no such thing, right when we get on a roll, we go and choke to a horrible team at home. It happens every year it seems. Code:
That disappointing loss ends our January. Code:
That last loss is huge, its the difference between having the fewest conference losses to barely being in 4th and still in serious danger of falling far with a couple of bad games. Code:
Our RPI is nice but we need conference wins, our RPI means jack to us right now(other than hopefully an indication of a good schedule and improvement next year) Code:
February 3rd, 2012 Florida Atlantic(11-8) at Campbell(10-10) These guys are tied with us for 3rd in conferece play, we really could use a win here. We get it, a big time 70-63 win! we outrebound them 45-34 as Davis and Boling are both huge for us today. Code:
February 6th, 2021 Troy State(6-13) at Campbell(11-10) This one is very close, but we pull out the win thanks to a 50-17 rebounding edge(yes, 50-17). They shoot 16 more FTs than us but only make 2 more. Code:
February 8th, 2021 Campbell(12-10) at Florida Atlantic(12-9) We look to hang on to 2nd in conference play with a hard road game here. It's a hard fought contest, we lead by 3 at the half, and hang on to that close lead the entire 2nd half, winning 78-75! Tim Smith is our top scorer today, getting 18 points on 6/12 shooting. Code:
February 10th, 2021 Campbell(13-10) at Louisiana-Monroe(8-17) Our nice winning streak comes to an end today, a tough loss on the road, 76-66. Code:
February 13th, 2021 Campbell(13-11) at Radford(7-17) We really couldn't afford to lose two of these road games in a row, but that's just what we did, 77-73 here. Code:
February 20th, 2021 Radford(8-17) at Campbell(13-12) We now sit in a 3 way tie for 2nd in the loss column, and this is seriously a must win for us. Radford is 7-8 in conference play so they are not as bad as their 8-17 looks. It's very close, but we get the win today, 64-62. Code:
February 24th, 2021 Campbell(14-12) at Stetson(16-10) Game of the year here... a win and we pull to within 1 game of first, a loss and we probably finish 4th. They are just too good for us, pulling out the 55-47 win today. Code:
February 27th, 2021 William & Mary(19-7) at campbell(14-13) We tie W&M for 2nd with a win, with a loss we are in a 3 way tie for 3rd through 5th. We absolutely blow out William & Mary, a huge victory to close out the season!! Davis was a monster today with 22 points. Code:
That ends February, and the regular season. Go Camels! Code:
