Game 9 - Press Conference
Coach V: That was a flat out butt kicking we took today. Not much else to say. We knew Army had advantages on us at every faucet of the game and well, you see the results.
Josh Cooper: Coach V, anything positive from the game today?
Coach V: Yeah, we only lost by 48 points, could have been 50+.
Ray Melink: Are you surprised your defense gave up 600+ yards? Coach V: Surprised? Not really... well, maybe. I didn't think Army was USC or anything, but they matched up really well against what we run here.
Moderator: Thank you coach.

FLORIDA INT GOLDEN PANTHERS
(continued)
Offense: The Golden Panthers run a Vertical Passing offense and rely on QB Ken Morse. The OL has some weak spots and struggles at times. OT Mike Anderson is their best option and most of the successful plays rely on his protection.
Defense: The Golden Panthers also run a 5-2 defense and rely on DT Tim Navies. The team looks to the DL to set the tone on defense. This group is up-and-down in its performance, but it should help cover some weakness in the defensive backfield.
Key matchup
Wilder has caught 42 of 105 passes thrown his way for 689 yards and 7 touchdowns. He's made 3 great catches and has averaged 16.4 yards per catch.
The Trojans has allowed opponents 245.1 passing yards per game and ranks No. 54 against the pass nationally.

We are a healthy bunch and hope being at home helps us to our 4th victory. Don't let Florida Int's 1-8 record fool you though, they've played some decent teams well and are coming off of a good victory vs Arkansas State. |

Game 10 - Press Conference
Coach V: This was a great win for us. It was an up and down ride, but somehow, we pulled this off. We hit anything that moved today, a definite "fan" game to watch.
Josh Cooper: Coach V, are you happy with a 4 game win season? I mean, coming in to Troy as a first year Head Coach, did you say.. "Four games is attainable."?
Coach V: Josh, I really didn't say what my goal for this season was. I don't think anyone could do that and feel comfortable with themselves.
Ray Melink: You have to be thinking how bad this game with Air Force is going to be. Why does a coach schedule a game they know could really be a morale buster from the standpoint of how bad you're beaten - and on national TV? Coach V: I scheduled that game, and at the end of the season - so I could see where this team is at after a full schedule of games. Playing similar talent tells you a little bit, but not the full story of what to really focus on after the season in preparation for the next season. I think it's great to have your players see they can tackle a player from a top 25 team. It's also good for your RS freshmen who will get to see what a game vs a great team is like in front of 53,000 fans. Hopefully my staff and I can take this program to a level where a game like this can be a close game and not a blowout. Expect games like this in the future, I'm not scared of getting blownout - see the Army tape. Thanks.

#21 AIR FORCE FALCONS
(continued)
Offense: The Falcons run a Smash Mouth offense and rely on QB Marcus Randall. The OL is a capable unit. While OT Eddie Welbourn is a nice player, the whole group will need to improve its overall form and technique to be successful.
Defense: The Falcons also run a 3-4 defense and rely on CB Willie Ligon. They rely on their linebackers to carry the defense. The groups of LBs should be able to hold up against most opponents but could wear down as the season goes on.
Key matchup
The Falcons defense has held opponents to just 127.8 rushing yards per game and ranks No. 27 against the run nationally.
McGrew has carried the ball 197 times for 633 yards (3.21 ypc) with 1 rushing touchdown. He has created 0 big runs on his own and averages 63.3 yards per game.

Looks like the guys responded a bit after falling behind 20-0. And that the defense being run over wasn't really the problem today ...
Good luck in the offseason. Hopefully you can begin building a team that you are comfortable with and that can make you proud in the near future. |

Game 11 - Press Conference
Coach V: Now that's the type of game I love being a part of. Sure, we lost.. but we played well. Shoot, two INTs for TDs put the game out of reach, but the team showed up and for that I thank each and every one of them. We finished about right where we were projected to and 4-7 is not something I'm proud of, but it is what it is and we have to build on that for next year. It's my first year, but I'm going to miss players like Staroba, McCreary, Darius, White, and Crow. Lansford had 103 tackles, wow he'll be missed. In fact, 3 out of my 4 top tacklers are graduating this year. It might get worse before it gets better.
Now that the season has come to a close, the work really starts for me and my staff. Gathering recruit data, watching film, studying needs over wants, etc. I love being able to concentrate on that part of being a Head Coach though as now I can turn my full attention on this roster and depth chart.
I think we can really build on that final game and hopefully you should start to see a transformation in this team and what we are trying to do. If you don't, I probably won't be here long.
Anything for me? I appreciate working with the media here in Troy and I hope you'll have much more positives to write about in the coming years. I'm sorry I don't know everything I want to know about this team yet. We won 4 games and finished tied for fourth in the conference. My first goal here is to win the conference and go from there.
Thanks again, I look foward to speaking to you all next year.
Moderator: Thanks Coach V, have a good offseason.

Looking at the All-Conference teams makes it pretty clear that you did a nice job landing the record that you did - only first teamer is the punter (hey, he worked a lot) and no one at the skill positions on any of the 3 teams.
Go get them on the recruiting trail. |
