Ummm....
Shit... I may get yelled at for having Crawford in there, but I had to see what the offense could do with him in there and an increased passing style.. ohwell, nothing we can do about it now..

I pick up URFA Pat Buckner as I'm not 100% clear on whether I can sign a non-URFA at this point.. If we can, we may want to pick up someone else..

Well, actually not too bad from our RB committee after Craw went out... Now our running game is even more of a mystery than it was..
FL Morrell also looked good, but I'm really not sure how to get him in the game.. he's hurt for now, so I'll bump him out of the lineup.. but otherwise, I just don't see how to squeeze him in?

Pritchett looked better than Coghill in the preseason. Any decisions as to who will start?

My vote would be to go with Pritchett at QB, and to jack up our passing numbers somewhat. We're going to be somewhat suspect in the running game personnel, and our strengths have shifted - we now have far better receivers than running backs. I think we play to our strengths, and start tossing it around a bit.
We can probably expect Pritchett to get hurt, so I suspect we'll see both guys in there - but I'd go with the veteran to start things off. We've been winning an awful lot of games with him, after all. |

I know it is just the preseason and all.

But that is one of the most dominating defensive performances I have ever seen. And for the most part from our backups. Very encouraging.

Heh Wade you didn't cut anyone from the offense. It's going to be hard getting down to 53 by cutting only defensive players.

Aw crap... and i'm at work so i can't do it (snuck onto the site as it is)..
First off, need to get pritchett starting.. i have cog in there still, so move that for me... and i did jack the passing numbers up quite a bit, in fact you can see that a bit in the preseason.. it may need more though.. either the cuts need to be hashed out here, or it has to wait until i get home ... But I can't really participate in cut talks because of the whole work thing...

Ok I have the orster down to 54. We just need to cut one guy from the offense. Any suggestions? TE Spencer Murphy seems to be the most logical person.

Done. On a side note I think once Vincent Wellman becomes a starter he is going to force me to chnage my defensive philosophy a but. In addition to being a good overal LB he looks like an awesome pass rusher. We don't blitz the LB's very often, but there is point in having Derrick Thomas and not having him rush the passer. |

To be honest I think we should just go with Coghill for the rest of the season. Pritchett is more likely to retire if he isn't the starter.

I sign QB Reuben Dobbins to a 1 year deal since we only had 3 QB's on the roster. I really hope we don't get to this guy. For that matter I hope we don't get to Newton.

And now that Pritchett is probable do we want to start him again or go with Coghill who has looked very good the last two games?

There is an URFA LT on the wire that might be a better option than moving Shepard over to LT.
LT Jimmy Strickland Run Block: 21/67 Pass Block: 0 Block Strength: 45 Endurance: 38/49 He isn't Jonathan Ogden or anything, but he looks like the better short term solution to me. If we sign him we have to drop someone else though.

I'll take the easy question first. I say stick with Coghill. If wade decides to put Pritchett back in, he can do it after the 4th game. I think Coghill has performed well enough to earn the spot for now.
As far as the tackle, I'd like to send a letter to our GM asking if we can make a trade for someone (anyone!). Maybe offer our backup center and a draft pick if necessary to get someone in here that has some skill. If not, I guess our only choice is to sign another URFA tackle. Edit: I don't have access to the files, but I think we have several centers. If we need to cut someone, we can cut a center (unless that's already been done). I don't think we need to make a trade... our rules say that our starters at the beginning fo the year have to be in their proper positions. Nothing says that when we face injuries like this we cannot adjust.
As I recall, we have a quality backup at center, who can move over to play left tackle fornow, correct? Or maybe better, we move our starter at C to play LT, and elevate the backup C to start there. I think that's within our rules, where initiating a trade would be outside (at least technically). I'd say we reshuffle to solve this problem, especially with Pederson probably only out for a few games. |

Are we starting mcAfee at RB over Biggs? He's getting more carries. Just curious if this is a deliberate decision, or jus a remnant of the preseason.
I don't have the game open, but my recollection is that I liked Biggs better. |

I didn't realize we could sub a center for LT (I thought it was only RT for LT kinda thing). I say we do what QS suggests and move the starting center to LT and start our backup at center.

Quik,
Biggs is listed as the starter and is set to a 5 playing time. I am not sure why McAfee is getting so many carries. Biggs has a good endurance rating so I don't think that is the problem. Should I increase Biggs playing time or keep it the same for the time being?

Well being the impatient person that I am I just answered my own question and bumped Biggs PT up to 7. I hope that is ok Wade. Biggs is averaging over 5.5 YPC so it makes sense that we get him more carries.
I have also moved C Kramer to LT.

I tell you what. The Ox was a great running back, but that guy is very injury prone. He had 4 carries this year for Norfolk and went down with a bad hammy that will probably keep him out the rest for the rest of the season.

Well, whoever predicted that Pritchett would go down (prime?) was sure right on that call..
I'm very happy with Cog so far.. his yards per pass is much higher, and we get a lot more flashier plays.. i bet he has atleast 3-4 times as many 25+ yard TD passes as Pritchett ever had with us.. as far as I'm concerned, Cog can start unless he totally blows up.. I don't know what's with the carries for the RB, as Bo definately was the starter.. i like that prime increased his starting time... I'll try to get more simming done tonight rather than the morning, but man did the offense get spanked with injuries.. LT could be a real liability..

I'd like to see us make a switch at linebacker. I think rookie Vincent Wellman is a better player than our current starter at MLB, Lonnie Bell. I'd like to see Wellmand and MLB Peabody switch positions, and then have ellman take over the starting MLB job ahead of Bell. Wellman is a future star, we're heavily invested, and the playing time will do him good. Plus, he's too young to lose much in the transition. Peabody will lose a bit in the reds, but he's our #5 or 6 LB, so there's little effect from that.

Quik,
To be honest I don't agree with that plan. Wellman has shown some very strong pass rushing skills in the limited playing time he has had and I would much rather keep him on the outside to take advantage of that. Unfortunately that means there isn't much playing time available for him this year. In FOF the MLB doesn't rush the passer very well. I think in the long run we are better off with him on the outside. If you want to over rule me on this I will be fine with it, but I really think we are better off leaving him outside. We can reduce John's playing time to try and get Wellman on the field more if you like.

wade,
If Quik doesn't respond before you run the games in the morning go ahead and just run the next four games and if Quik really wants us to make this change then we can make it at the halfway point. If he responds tonight and wants to over rule me go ahead and make the switch.

Ok, for the next 4 games we'll leave the LBs as is, and maybe a switch will be made after that... at QB, I'm going to stick with Cog despite his injury, he has really impressed me..

Ok I thought about it some more and I went ahead and switched Wellman to the MLB position. Bell is clearly on his last legs and Peabody isn't the long term solution there so we should get someone in there who can really play.
Plus despite the fact I think Wellman could be a very good pass rushing OLB that just isn;t the style of defense we play and our defense has been very strong doing what it does over the years so there really isn;t much reason to change that. The good news is Wellman actually increased his ratings with his switch to MLB. So he looks even better than he did before. Nice call Quik.

With a new starting MLB we face a tough challenge. It will be a good test to see how he will handle his new role. I did increase the MLB blitzing some. If he can do it we might as well take advantage of it. Code:
