Dumb question. If I turn Location Services on and have Google Maps, that will act like a regular navigational GPS?

Not a dumb question at all. Yes, it'll work just as a regular navigational GPS. I got to try it last evening when I had to get somewhere and simply entered an address and set it to tell me directions as I drove... It will use the battery more though... FM

Yes. and it also works the same for runkeeper app. Does the iPhone have a mini-GPS in it? Do I need to have my data services on for it to work? |

For GPS apps (non-running), I haven't found anything better than Waze.

yeah, you need to have data services on. For example, an iPod or iPad that doesn't have data service is pretty much useless for a GPS when on the road... FM

Itunes is close (like today or tomorrow close) to having its 50 billionth app downloaded. If that person is you, you win a $10K gift card. The next 50 people get a $500 gift card. There is a countdown clock at itunes. Get downloading!

At the rate the count down clock is moving, it could be in the next couple of hours. Start downloading all those free apps.

Has anyone played the strategy war games created by EASY, Inc.? They look a lot like a Panzer General style game. Was thinking about buying up a few of them to try out, but wanted to check for any feedback first.

Looks like a handful of Knizia board game ports to IOS are on sale for 99 cents. Tigris & Euphrates, Ra and Medici at least are that I can tell.
Also for people who liked Frozen Synapse, the ipad port is out now for it. |

just discovered something neat:
App Shopper: Spark Player Air - Powerful Streaming Player (Utilities) This little app, with its companion server (that you can download at http://air.teeonsoft.com), allows you to stream anything that is in shared folders on your main PC, even some .VOB files coming from your own DVDs ripped to the hard drive of your PC. File conversion and video quality is very good... FM

I haven't even tried it out, nor have I ever played/read anything with the name "Warhammer" attached. But I am sort of itchy for a deep-ish iPad game (I think my FM career has run its course) and this is atop my list of candidates, I think.

My download has just finished. It took a fair while.
I'm also a newbie to the series. Never played the board games or console versions before, but I'm tired of the same iOS style games, so this sounds worth £3 to kill some time |

I downloaded and have played a bit of WQ since it has come out. Fun game indeed.
Here's another one with a great review that I bought yesterday. In the genre of match-3 with RPG element, it's a pretty fine one and well worthy of 99 cents... Scurvy Scallywags Review | Touch Arcade FM

Quicksand mentioned this in another thread, now I am amazed by what it can do. (It may have been mentioned here already)
https://secure.logmein.com/products/ios/ I'm often out of the house when I have drafts running. This has already helped me to check which positions I need, and even remotely run Draft Analyser to help me pick. The free version is great. 24 hours of use for me with no problems |

Recommend both Warhammer and Scurvy Scallywags.
Warhammer is, from what I understand, a remake of the classic boardgame. It's good turn-based fun although I wish there was an option to speed up your character's movement. It's also a little too random at times but I guess that means by luck sucks! Scurvy Scallywags is a match-3 game that has RPG elements, all bundled up in a nonsensical package. Very much has a "one more game" feel to it. |

I have given this a few hours of time - and I don't see any point to it. I might not be the target audience, at least when I'm in "play something on the iPad" mode, I guess. |

Derby Quest is a horse racing game that has a similar depth, feel, and approach to New Star Soccer. Not sure how well executed it is yet, but I'm hopeful.
Freemium game, so free to tryout, at least. |

I enjoyed it, became repetitive fast. Your level is capped at 6 which seems awfully low. One usability issue makes the repetitiveness worse - you have to tap and move each of your 4 characters which makes navigating a pain in the rear. |

I think the bottom line is that this is just an iOS port of an actual dice and tokens board game - not really a true iOS game itself. Kinda frustrating sine the iOS platform can handle a more legit game - but this game doesn't really seek to do that much. |

It appears to be a 90% rip-off of the look ad feel of the original Bard's Tale... which is basically what I want, so I'm down for that.

If you like turn-based strategy RPG type games, you might try Kingturn. It's ugly, but very deep.

I've been getting the hang of Carcassonne over the past month but I am still having trouble understanding the strategy and scoring of fields. I understand that you get 3 points for fields surrounding completed cities like this
X () X () X but what if my marker is away from those tiles but connected by contiguous fields? Do those field tiles score or just the ones with a city in and next to them? For example, let's say there's a two tile city; then there's a cloister north of it and then a field/road tile in which I have my marker in the field. -------- m C ( ) How does this score and is that not the right place to put my marker to score field points? I can't exactly decipher your charting, but I'll tell you how I think of fields to keep it straight. If you were to take a black marker and draw between roads and the field and city walls and the field, you would end up with a border for a single (large) field. Any farmer placed in that field scores 3 points for any completed/enclosed city within or contiguous to that field.

Has anybody here tried the Fighting Fantasy games? I figured I have some time today where I can barely move, so I may as well try something new. I think they're a kind of game I'd like to play...I never played them as the books they were back in the day.

Funny, Warhammer gets a glowing review everywhere I look, but I found it boring. The angles you view the game at are very limiting. It takes too long to move all your guys each turn. It's just not worth the money unless you're really interested in the Warhammer series |
