I really want to explode right now. Explode in a torrent of anger and frustration. I want to revert to being a little boy and cry for my disappointment. I want to forget that I get this upset about this stuff. I want this feeling to pass. I want to hate. I need to move on. I need to love. I need to breathe. Sigh....

As I kid I grew up watching the Dodgers.
As I got older and moved inland I attended numerous Angel games.
I then moved to Virginia and have attended numerous Nats games so adopted them as well.

I was thrilled when all three made the playoffs. They're now a combined 2-8 and this is officially the worst baseball post season I've ever seen.

Amazing we find ways to win games at times, especially in the postseason. We are getting closer to a KC - STL series!

Who would have thought the Cardinals would win with homeruns?

Tough spot. How do you tell probably the best pitcher in baseball that he's done when he just struck out the side? Yes it made sense with his pitch count and the short rest, but it's hard to quell that fire. There will be a lot of questions asked of Mattingly's decision though.

The Dodgers bullpen isnt that great. In hindsight, it wasnt a great decision. but at the time, I think it was the right decision to leave Kershaw in.

KCs speed vs. Molinas arm. That would a blast.

I want the Royals to win, but I really want to see whoever comes out of the AL to beat whoever comes out of the NL and it's been a while since I could say that this far out.

This is the pessimist in me talking, but it feels like getting no runs in this situation is a really, really bad sign for the Giants.

So is that obstruction? He was blocking the plate before the ball got there, but it's not like he camped out he was just running there.

Geez. Buster's lack of speed canceled out two runs so far this series.

I was walking out of the room when they were explaining it, but sounded like they said because he applied the tag before he would have been able to reach home it wasn't obstruction? Definitely looked like the knee was in the way, technically.

Fair enough. Should be a good series - power vs speed. I've got no idea how it's going to turn out, just enjoying the ride and the black and orange. A lot of my friends adopted the Nats when they moved in, but I've always been an O's guy.

That's a totally terrible and wrong explanation. Earlier this season the Giants benefitted from that call when the catcher got the ball and the runner was 15 feel up the line still.

I'm not super familiar with baseball replay rules, but I guess if it's like football that part of the play might not have been reviewable, in which case the umps just got it wrong in the bang bang play, at least in the interpretation of that rule?

I'm less worried about the knee - he clearly had the ball by that point. But he planted essentially ON the plate, giving Posey no clear path to the plate, and he didn't have the ball yet. I'm not sure if the rule applies to people who aren't standing still at the plate though.

Also, from a baseball perspective, I'm glad they called him out - scoring there would feel like it was done on a technicality, and while I'm all for my team winning any way they possibly can, that's a lame way to get a run.

Yeah, I'm more curious about whether or not it even applies there than I am in whether or not the correct ruling was made.

A hit with a runner in scoring position here would sure be nice.

I'm not sure. 90+ pitches, three days rest, 7th inning...Don't you get somebody up in the 'pen like right then. Especially when you left the bullpen vacant, then only got one pitcher warming up, just how many days ago?

The sun rises and sets and either the Giants or Cardinals are in the NLCS. This time, both.

I may not like either team whatsoever, but dammit they keep getting there. Congrats to the fans of both teams that are on here that aren't douchebags.

Yes. But Kershaw struck the side out in the 6th. That had to be a big influence on the decision as well.

It is truly fitting and the best outcome, esp. with the hated Dodgers gone. Two very historical NL teams - think Mays, Musial, Mathewson, McGraw, Gashouse, McCovey, Marichal, Rickey, Gibson, et al. Cardinals, with their history and fans and being a superb baseball town, has rightly been called the Gem of Baseball. Giants have a slight taint by leaving New York but they have built an ideal ballpark on the Bay and knows how to gut out wins when it matters. Right now, it would be challenging to pick out one of these two teams as the Team of the 2010s but these two have been the best in baseball this decade.

I was relying more on my long term memory when he didn't get anyone up at the start of the seventh, and I said to a fellow Giant fan "What? Is Mattingly a moron? Doesn't he remember the other day?"

It just turned out that I was right. I'm often not. But then again, I'm not a big league manager that has to approach "win or go home" playoff games differently than an outing in May. Perhaps not being a big league manager is something Mattingly and I should have in common?

I'm a Giant's fan, so clearly I'm biased in this, but I agree with you.

The Giants have won two World Series this decade, but that is also their total for last five decades. How can they be hated?

And the Cardinals, while they have been more successful, they've generally done it well.

I can't really understand hate for either of these teams.

Consistent success always brings out the hate. I don't begrudge any of the Dodger fans for hating both teams as one is a division rival and the other has been a consistent playoff foe. That's what sports is and I've done my time disliking the Cowboys (back in the 90s as a Pack fan) and the 49ers now days.

I can't believe a team with no hitting and 5 mid season call up rookies is in the nlcs. The one constant from 2010 to now in Buster and Bumgarner, a potential for one the best batteries of all time.

Ever since the Marlin championship years, beating the Giants each time, i struggle in seeing the the playoffs as just the best teams playing each, rather than the hottest teams. More than any other big sport the team you build to win the season is often different than the one you need to win playoffs, just ask the A's.

That being said, suck it LA.
