I highly recommend The Wandering Earth, a Chinese blockbuster made available on Netflix in April. Nifty sci-fi adaptation of a Hugo winning book.

The Perfect Bid. Thumbs Up. A documentary about The Price is Right and the guy who memorized the prices and was the source of the perfect showcase bid several years ago. It goes over the guy's history of going to show, shouting out prices, etc.

Just watched The Perfection. Its a thriller. And it was pretty good. Nothing spectacular, but timely with all the crap going on with the bad coaches and what not.

It's pretty old now, but Zach Galifinakas Live at the Purple Onion is still one straight up, funniest stand up specials you can watch. It's damned perfect, from his skits, characters, improv, crowd work. He's so irreverent, and it's so spot on.

The kid goes on random watching binges, so I've just seen the Ep 1, S3 of Peaky Blinders.
The ... uncomfortable party guests at his wedding reception was pretty amusing.

I will say that the start of S3 (I think we're two eps in maybe?) so far feels like they either had a show runner or some writers leave after S2. The convoluted nature of the plot may have reached a tipping point into ridiculousness and some of the character behaviors/actions/reactions feel like they're out of synch with what we were taught about them in S1 and S2 Given how often we seem to see that happen (though this is a bit soon considering the low number of episodes they do per year) I'm wondering if the sweet spot for shows in general these days may not be in the 1-2 year or even one-off range.

I just finished Good Omens on Amazon, I loved the book when I read it years ago, and thought Amazon did a very good job with it. Great cast, David Tennant was perfect for the Crowley role and just killed it.

Tom Hardy's character in Peaky Blinders is great.
If that show had a better title everyone would watch it. It has to be the show with the furthest distance between title and show quality.

Binged on Chernobyl over the weekend and it's great. Still the last episode to go, which I would have gotten to already, had I not also started watching Barry, Bill Hader's show where he plays a hit man who gets into acting. Starting on season 2 of that now.

Just started Good Omens and liked the 1st episode. Then Black Mirror dropped. Will probably have to re-start Good Omens.

Disagree. The last episode was perfect - tied everything together and explained what actually happened. Great bookend.

Watched the first two tonight having read some fairly lukewarm or negative reviews online. Enjoyed them both, better than most of Series 4 anyway, particularly Smithereens. So pleasantly surprised so far, but saving Episode 3 for tomorrow night. |

Black Mirror was only 3 episodes. What a bummer. I guess hiring Topher Grace and Myley Cyrus cuts intot he budget.
The episodes were really good I thought.

Chernobyl was amazing! Just saw one episode of When They See Us and it was very, very well done. Black Mirror was meh - actually liked the Miley Cyrus episode the best.

Just watched episode one of the second season of The Rain. Really crazy ending.
My wife fell asleep and asked me to tell her what happened. I just told her she needs to watch for herself. |

I don't think it was meant to be. It kinda had an 80s kids movie vibe to me. I liked it because it was so different than the usual Black Mirror.

Exactly. The whole thing was a send up of 80s Disney movies with a dark tech vibe (seriously, even though it worked out in the end, Ashley Too was creepy as fuck). Now Smithereens I think was the worst one in the Black Mirror series. Isn't the series supposed to be about future tech?

I usually like the celebrity roast stuff but that Historical Roasts on Netflix is abysmal. Roasting people who aren't actually alive seems pointless as the whole point of a roast is to actually roast a person to their face. But regardless of that, the jokes just weren't funny. Couldn't get through the whole thing.
I also found Person of Interest on Netflix and am binging through that. Little out there but enjoying it. |

BLACK MIRROR S5
Diminishing returns throughout this season, ending with the Miley Cyrus episode, where I feel like they went for a Short Circuit / semi-comedic ep that kinda doesn't work. Even their bad episodes I still enjoy watching though, so hopefully Brooker will make some more at some point. The ending to Episode 2 also bothered me, on a couple of levels. But the amazingness of episode 1 makes up for both of the others, very worth it. GOOD OMENS Michael Sheen is amazing in this. David Tennant is doing his best "Bill Nighy in LOVE ACTUALLY" impression, which was so spot on I really couldn't stop thinking "why didn't they just get Bill Nighy for this role"? Maybe he's too old. Anyway... I found the resolution somewhat anti-climactic. There were sort of 2 resolutions, and the final one ends up being more satisfying, which I imagine is what they were going for. But I just spent a week watching CHERNOBYL and WHEN THEY SEE US, so I almost feel like I wasn't quite ready to bounce back to light entertainment. I kept waiting for it to get super dark. I'm not joking, episode 4 of 6 something happens along the lines of a love story / romance, and I FINALLY thought to myself "oh, so this whole series is supposed to be sort of twee and optimistic." That lack of understanding of what the tone was probably killed the enjoyment somewhat for me, although it was mainly worth it to watch Sheen play the pinky-raised Felix to Tennant's supernatural Oscar. Also, the constant "signpost" animation that was shuttling you from time-to-time and place-to-place felt really basic cable to me. It bothered me much more than it should've.

I mean the book was written by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman. Though I am surprised it took you so long to realize that as I thought the tone was pretty consistent throughout.
