Not the only one. I've been waiting for them to be eliminated for a while now, but they keep hanging in there.

I'm in Pittsburgh for a few Pirates games - wow Cashner was brilliant for the Padres last night. Complete game one hitter, and Burnett pitched well too.

Wild card race in the AL is just nuts right now. Certainly Texas and TB are making it interesting by playing poorly down the stretch, but it makes for a lot of interest in a lot of cities, so it's good for baseball.

Angels aren't going anywhere for playoffs this year, of course, but it's kinda nutty how well they have played since Pujols got hurt.

They have won 18 of the last 24 games, and are only four games below .500 right now.

All of a sudden, a rotation of Weaver, Wilson, Richards and Vargas looks pretty promising.

The way both teams are playing right now, that could very well happen.

With their 1-0 lead after the first inning against the Rays, the Rangers have their first lead in 63 innings.

That is insane. Don't think I've ever seen a streak like that.

Amazing debut for Yordano Ventura. Royals fans were excited to see this kid pitch in spring training next year. Instead, they bring him up to the majors for his MLB debut and he looked fantastic. Hopefully the Royals can hold the lead and give this kid a win.

Unbelievable. I continue to be baffled why Herrera and Davis continue to be trotted out there in key situations. F'n Yost.

I'm kindof tired of the "it's the manager's fault for every loss" crap going on in KC right now. Everyone out of the pen failed last night, save for Louis Coleman (who only got 1 out but is a ROOGY, with pretty extreme RH/LH splits) and Greg Holland (there was no opportunity for him to pitch unless you say he should have been in the 7th or 8th but that would be baffling and make no sense unless you're just using 20/20 hindsight to hang Yost). Sometimes the blame is on the players for not performing. Smith, Herrera, Hochevar, and Davis all failed. He played the splits and lost- it happens. You could say Crow or Collins but Davis has actually been better than them out of the pen (first run given up this year). Bueno? Joseph? Hardly.

If you're blaming Ned for the loss last night, you're just looking to bury the guy rather than look at what happened. Did he bunt in the 2nd inning? Yes- that was stupidly Yostian but your run expectancy goes down 0.2 for the game (tho the odds are slightly better to get 1 run, but you take away the shot at a bigger inning). Great, so they lose 5 to 3.2 instead. The defense was uncharacteristically bad all night, punctuated by Gordon missing a completely playable ball to let in the go ahead run.

Because he's Phillips and he can do whatever he wants. He could have easily twisted around and tagged him, but he thought, hell why not. I don't mind it, but honestly it has to annoy Dusty a little bit.

Hamilton stole four bases last night. Two on pitch-outs.

Sure it was against the Astros, but still.

From Fangraphs:

Quote:
Our hero, Billy Hamilton, is tied for 8th in the NL in stolen base runs. He made his major league debut two weeks ago. He started his first big league game yesterday. He has come to bat just nine times. And he's already tied for 8th in the NL in runs added through base stealing. He's got a pretty good chance at finishing the season in the top five.

I haven't heard too much about him, but Greg Holland should get some consideration for AL Cy Young.

I've always wanted to go to a game like that where it goes 14+ (as long as it was a Friday or Saturday game where I didn't care how late I was out).

Awesome finish on the Royals game in front of a packed house. Hard to imagine anything more exciting than a walk-off grand slam at the final home game of the year.

Best Royals game to be in the crowd since 2000? Three come to mind and yesterday's would be one. The other would be Opening Day 2004 and then maybe the Ken Harvey game in 2003.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but the Mets shut down Wheeler a couple days ago. Ex-Red Aaron Harang is starting tonight.

Yeah, it was amazing. Watched the home run a few more times on the MLB replay video just to get my fill. Best part was that it was a no-doubter. Justin dropped the bat and started yelling at the home team dugout right away while the crowd just exploded. I remember when I was a kid the last time we had meaningful games. It felt like that.

Boy, it's amazing to see the evolution of Hosmer this year. This kid was totally clueless early in the year. Hesitant and no sense of the strike zone with little to no power. Since Brett came on, he's been one of the best hitters in the American League. So much fun to see it all happen.

The Astros were just what the Rangers needed to cure their hitting woes. They scored 12 in the shutout, and Alex Rios became the 7th Ranger to hit for the cycle.

And in other stadium news, I finally tackled the two foot long, chili, onion and jalapeno covered bratwurst known as the Sausage Slugger. Pics to come tomorrow.

Good to know that "player evolution" now is shaking off a sophomore slump and basically equaling your numbers from your rookie season in your third year.

I thought it was called the Bratbino (to go along with the Boomstick). Or have they rebranded it since last year. My wife and I figure we'll split one next time we're in Arlington.

Also worth noting, Adam LaRoche hit the pop out that ended the Nats season, putting the Bucs in the playoffs.

So, it all started with an ex Pirate 1B with creepy facial hair...and ended with an ex Pirate 1B with creepy facial hair.

Full circle, indeed.

Another f'n unbelievable win for the Royals as they gain ground again. It really sucks that the season likely only has six games left.

Here's the link to the Alex Gordon double play in the 10th that kept the game alive.
