As soon as the ravens arrive, King Stannis orders Ser Axel Florent rounded up by his guards and brought to him.

"This is the law of our land, whether we like it or not," the King said. "We must abide by the law."

"My Grace, I understand, and I have always known this was coming for me," Florent said. "Might I ask to leave under the terms of the Lord of Light?"

"Of course, Ser Florent," the King said. He nods to the guards, who escort the bannerman to the main courtyard in Dragonstone.

There, guards and squires and other keep workers toil to build a stake for a fire. Florent shows no fear as he watches this unfold.

As the sun drifts down to the far west, and twilight begins to fall upon the keep, the work is done.

Florent kneels before King Stannis.

"King Stannis Baratheon, I give my life for you and for your kingdom, as you are Azor Ahai reborn, the messiah come again to save us all from the White Walkers, and deliver us to R'hllor, the Lord of Light," intoned Florent, who nonetheless shook with the passion of his offer.

"I accept your sacrifice, Lord Ser Florent," the King responded. There was no emotion in his voice.

The guards helped Ser Florent up the woodpile and tied him to the stake.

There was a pause before a keepworker came forward with a torch. He threw it down amongst the dry kindling, and soon flames began to gather, and lick upon Florent's feet. The doomed man started to sweat.

He suddenly screamed!

"For the night is dark! And full of terrors!"

The watching group of men all bowed their heads in prayer and repeated his prayer. He did this twice more, even as the flames seemed to be kept at bay by the fervor in his voice.

"Lord of Light! Take me!" Florent screamed to the sky. Suddenly, the flames shot up the stake and engulfed him. His screams were horrible, but thankfully brief.

How ironic, mused the grim King Stannis. "Here, in the ancient home of the Targaryeans, a House known once for being impervious to fire, that we should sacrifice a good man in this manner."

Stannis left the courtyard without another word.

I normally would have left the deadline at night, but given I am working tomorrow night and there is likely to be a pivotal war tomorrow, I figured it better if I did that here at work, where I can run the war better.

The destination of King Renly--and the future site of the battle--has yet to be determined.

In truth, the need is clear for anyone that is not Renly or Robb Stark, we must join with my brother in battle. I do not do it out of love. But because if left to their own fighting, the victory will have another king as his captive, and the capability of adding their forces together.

So I will fight with Renly, not from love but to keep Robb Stark from him. If Renly bends the knee it will be to his elder brother and no one else. All the kings must join this fight and let fate decide who is the real victory.

For the rest of you, you need to decide what gives you your best chance of surviving and being victorious - lining up against me does, more than likely, eliminate me.

What then? You wouldn't bend knee to me, will you bend knee to another? Are you certain you are strong enough to be victorious? Are you certain you will end the day in a position to do anything?

Or will this just result in another stalemate, where everyone is afraid to commit to battle?

I do not see how any living bannerman who is not an enemy of the realm may flee his liege, Cersei. Perhaps a king may disavow or release the bannerman.
