I've always been lucky that I enjoy wins more than I dislike losses. When my team loses, I do something else and forget about it. When my team wins, I read and talk about it for the next day or so. And then when I think back, I kind of enjoy the great wins and terrible losses equally. I am as sentimental about the Patriots' first super bowl win as I am about the '86 World Series.

I finally saw the Antonio Brown stuff. As a one time major fan of his, wow how he's just turned into such an incredible mess. When will he get hired by NFL Live?

So the maximum pain scenario I see for the Saints is to beat the Falcons and to have the Rams leading the 49ers, but to have the Seahawks destroy the Cards, and when the Rams see that their game is pointless, they let their foot off the gas in the 4th quarter and the 49ers end up coming back and winning.

After 7 years in the league, congrats to Sean Mannion for his first TD pass, I guess? I mean, I didn't see it but it apparently happened.

If this means the Rams allow the Niners to get into the playoffs then, no. Both the good and bad Niner teams, since McVay has been in LA have had the Rams number. Knocking those rival bastards out of the playoffs while clinching the division and the #2 seed (I think that makes them #2?) would be a great ending to the regular season. As a Rams fan I think this game is a "gut check" that they need to pass with or without playoff implications. If the Rams lose it will be because SF beat them, letting up will not come into the picture. The "max pain scenario" from this Rams fan's POV. |

Denver won 2-3 games they shouldn't have and that's probably going to cost them 3-5 places in the draft order. Should have just dropped the Dallas, first Chargers game, and probably the WFT game. One, better draft position. Two, definite firing for Fangio.

That would be the greatest SNF game ever!
I don't know if this is completely correct, but I think I read that the Colts have only beaten the Jags 5 out of the past 12 times and not in Jacksonville since 2014.

I wonder what the NFL would do, if anything, if that actually happened. I don't think the referees would have the power to do anything, and once the result is in the book, that's kind of the end of it. It there some catch-all rule about sportsmanship that could result in the suspension of coaches or something? Regardless, they'd both be in the playoffs. |

The NFL does have a "catch-all" rule that says the Commissioner can overturn the result of a game for "unfair acts". If both teams do something that that soccer match, Goodell could just overturn the result. I have no idea if he can give a lose to both teams though, or even disqualify both teams from the playoffs.

There was a Badminton scandal at the 2012 Olympics where several pairs were purposefully trying to lose because it would get them a better matchup in the elimination round. All 4 teams were disqualified.

Just taking a knee for an entire game is not going to happen but what if it's 20-20 with 10 minutes left? I could see the teams having a silent understanding that they'll just run very conservative plays and be content with the tie. In that scenario, you only have to play not to lose, not play to win.

The NFL could still avoid it by making sure the Colts' game will be played at the same time. But any other AFC game moved to the Sunday night timeslot would run the same risk of not being really meaningful for the playoffs bound/hopeful team(s) involved due to the results earlier on the day. Although the Titans', Patriots' or Bills' game could still be meaningful.
Big difference being that this game of football doesn't lend itself well for a stalemate like the other game football does. And those that will claim that this scenario will not happen, if the vibe in the stadium with both teams becomes "a tie is much better than pissing the game away", a stalemate situation will happen. If it does happen, it would karma for Suck for Luck, although he's no longer playing.

Nice of Baker to try to get the Browns a better pick to find his replacement

Ya, I think Baker's career as a starter is over. Unless the Panthers decide to trade for him.

Before this season, I thought "If a top QB is now worth $40 million/year, then someone will probably give Baker $30 million."
Now, I agree that he will need to fight for a starter's job next year. I don't know if I can remember a player dropping that quickly without some off the field stuff really driving it. Here, it just seems like he played enough football that we all finally saw that he wasn't as good at it as we had hoped. |

I just got home from my daughter's bball game and see that Big Ben has 96 yards on 34 attempts. And that's MVP numbers compared to Mayfield. I'm out on this game before the 3Q starts.

Doesn’t he have a torn labrum? If so, and they are eliminated, I don’t understand why he’s even active.

It will be fun to see how the Hall of Fame treats AB. If he retired at 30, like Calvin Johnson, I assume he’d be a first ballot inductee. Since then, he’s added a Super Bowl and napalmed bridges from every team he’s played with.

I think AB has as much of a chance as Ray Rice the way things currently stand. |

And AB is going to do way more crazy shit before he's HOF-eligible.

He'd have to have a Randy Moss like return to form and change of perception. I wonder if Moss would have continued to flame out and burn bridges and never wear a Pats uniform if he would have made it. |

Browns were eliminated I thought. Steelers can still get there because of the tie.

I meant the Steelers. Forgot Mayfield was the one with the tear. Roethlisberger sure looks like he can't throw deep or accurately or anything right now. Yeah, Mayfield seems to have that "if I can still put on a uniform, I can play" thing going for him. They should shut him down. His teammates already know he's a gamer. |

Baker has a torn labrum and had a broken bone in his non-throwing shoulder. It'll be interesting to see how much weight the Cleveland front office puts on this season. He was solid enough last year and he's been hurt since week 2 this year. I have no idea why they haven't just shut him down and let him go ahead and have the surgery. |

Torn labrum or not, his pocket presence is just absolutely atrocious

If you're the Browns do you franchise tag Baker next year for close to $30MM? He hasn't proved himself to be worth long-term investment, but there's not exactly a lot of options on the open market.

As a Steelers fan, I think I’d take a healthy Baker if he were available next year.

Shit, Strahan's sack record could fall tonight.

I rarely watch full games not involving the Patriots, but I am fantasy football-invested in this one, and it is great fun watching the Steelers sack Baker 800 times.

Browns have both ends of the 2021 season record here - they got Justin Fields nine times early this season. Now Mayfield ties it.

The line for Baker is sooo bad.
And he's only the second-worst QB playing tonight.

I cant imagine have Baker as your starting QB. Inaccurate, poor anticipation, bails on the pocket far too soon. If the Browns had stuck to their early season game plan and kept running the ball the outcome of the season would have likely been different.
After awhile teams probably changed their game plan figuring out that Baker is hopeless therefore maybe the change from the Browns. |

I've been searching for the last time we had a moment like that - a quarterback definitely headed to the Hall of Fame playing what's almost certainly his last game at home - never played for any other team.
Eli might not get the call and Daniel Jones started most of 2019, including the last home game. Aikman and Young were injured and didn't get to finish the season. Marino wanted to play another season, there was some bitterness there and he was told he couldn't come back. I would say John Elway in the AFC Championship game at Denver 23 seasons ago. I think people knew at the time. We make fun of how bad the quarterbacking was tonight, but the moment was real - Roethlisberger was a great one and the fans appreciate that. I'm glad the NFL featured the game, glad to see that moment. |
