I thought sure I knew who was going to make the save at Raw but I wasn't expecting it to be the obvious.

For some oddball reason I was expecting to hear the familiar sound of breaking glass.

PWInsider and others are reporting that TNA has signed Sarah Stock.

Triple H vs. Orton at Wrestlemania is going to be excellent. They set it up perfectly on Raw.

I thought that was a really well done angle. I wasn't really paying attention during the Shane/Orton match, did they take out the announcer table or otherwise explain why the announcers went quiet during the last few minutes?

Shane threw Orton over it, at one point using the announcer's big desk chairs as an impromptu weapon after they bailed out. They didn't seem to work all that well in that capacity though, looked more like he was trying to smother him with it than beat him with it.

It's not really surprising to see a story like this involving a former pro wrestler, except that it's Verne Gagne:

Very sad:

I started to post the Gagne story earlier, just never got around to it as I really didn't even like thinking about it. Just an awful story.

I just got back from coaching youth basketball at the Boys & Girls Club and I noticed a poster for a wrestling show that will be held there this Saturday. One name stuck out to me. Bob Armstrong. Is this the same guy from Georgia Championship Wrestling in the early 80's?

Almost certainly would be.

He still works the indys on occasion as far as I know, is actually in better shape than some of the indy regulars too. Okay, granted that's not always saying a lot but still, since he's pushing like 70 now ...

edit to add: Make that definitely him, tagging with his son Scott no less. Google is a wonderful thing.

The writing is just getting worse & worse on Impact.

"Dr. Stevie"? Don West as the heel announcer? And why is Shane Sewell wearing a pair of running pants to wrestle in?

This is going from bad to worse, no wonder the PPV buy rate is reportedly at an all-time low, even worse than the pre-Spike TV days.

The idea of a heel announcer is not bad, Bobby The Brain was one of my favorite.

The idea, no? Could work with the right person, Heenan is a fine example.

The execution by West? Baaaaad. And who in their right mind thought he could play the part? Oh, wait, there's nobody in their right mind involved in the creative there.

True. I am not sure if Jeff is the one hindering the product but the whispers seem to think he has created a culture similar to wCw where the older guys don't want to give up their spots. The product seems to have staled and they have been using castaways to carrying their main event instead of building their own.

I blame Jeff & his lackey Dutch Mantell. I blame Dixie Carter for not having enough sense to use her legit authority to put somebody with a clue in charge of creative. I'd love to blame the veterans who are said to be holding back progress but at the same time they can only get away with it if the actual powers let them.

And what a telling scene to end tonight's show. There's the face of TNA:
Jarrett, Foley, and the Dudleys.

Not Joe.
Not AJ.
Not Sabin or Shelley.
Not Homicide or Hernandez.

I have no idea how the Dudleys are getting so high up in the card. They were in the main event last PPV! That's unbelievable!

Weren't they just pushing Brother Ray as a fat joke just last summer? I guess it's the same with AJ Styles, they pushed him last year as the geeky guy who wanted Kurt Angle's wife and would do anything for Team Angle to get close to Karen. Then now we're expected to buy into him as a legit main event player.

Sorry, when you do damage to characters, it's hard to forget.

As crappy as TNA has become, they've been drawing their highest ratings ever for the last couple episodes, so apparently someone likes the garbage. Although I'd say a lot of it is the whole no football and Wrestlemania right around the corner bump that happens every year. It's only like a .1 to .2 bump, but it's enough to encourage them that the crap is working.

And I'm sure releasing Sonjay Dutt while hiring a Survivor cast member will boost them to even new depths, err, heights.

Meanwhile, re: Raw & Edge/Vicki/Show/Cena ... I don't care who you are, that was funny.

Soapy, silly, and sports entertainmenty, but funny nevertheless.

I am guessing this leads to Edge or Vicky moving to Raw after the draft, more then likely it will be Edge who has a ton of fresh feuds waiting for him on Raw.

You can't make this shit up

The following press release was sent out today:

DANNY BONADUCE TO WRESTLE AT THE LOCKDOWN PAY-PER-VIEW

TNA Wrestling announced today that Philadelphia-based disc jockey Danny Bonaduce will have his first pro wrestling match on Sunday, April 19, at Lockdown, inside the lethal six-sides of steel.

Bonaduce, the former wise-cracking son on the 1970s television series The Partridge Family, is the morning drive DJ on WYSP (94.1 FM) in Philadelphia.

TNA Wrestling executives would not comment on who Bonaduce's opponent will be, but confirmed that the TNA Wrestling Superstar will be in Philadelphia next Friday, March 20, for the official Contract Signing, to be held on-air during Bonaduce's radio show.

It really is like reliving WCW's demise all over again, just with fewer hours of television.

Aaaaan it turns out that Randy's on-screen wife "Samantha" was actress and former playboy playmate Laura Croft. An actress who could give out blood-curdling screams.

Orton's real wife, Samantha Speno, was not part of the skit.

How exactly do you explain to your real life wife that they're casting a playboy model to play your hot wife on TV?

Of course, Orton's wife's doppleganger has nothing on TNA's latest roster addition. No, I don't mean Danny Bonaduce. I'm talking about Andromeda (aka Casandro from Mexico). That's right folks, not only does the failure to resign Christian and the release of Petey Williams, Sonjay Dutt, and Jimmy Rave provide opportunities for a Survivor alum and a washed up child actor turned radio jock but we also get a new transsexual star.

From PWI .. This would be awesome:

Jim Ross noted in his latest blog entry that while he was up in Stamford, CT, he was scheduled to do an interview concerning the "rise and fall of WCW", which has a lot of people perking their ears and hoping for a DVD documentary on the former TBS company. Stay tuned.

With how great the Rise and Fall of ECW was, I am sure this would be as good, though obviously with a big WWE slant. Still, I can't wait to hear Bischoff and Vince discuss it, as well as guys from WCW who were there for it, like the Big Show.

TNA is ridiculous.

There's about a billion good wrestlers out there, and it's a buyer's market. there's no reason a second company can't put out a quality product.

Wonder if this one will get any mainstream coverage. He's not a big name like Guerrero, but he's also a guy who broke his neck and then spoke out about painkillers and the poor treatment of injured wrestlers. If it turns out to be drugs...

Well it's in the headlines on espn.com as well as ajc.com, under a pretty misleading headline of "Former WWE champion found dead". Quick, name 100 champions of the WWE and see if he makes your list.

He's also the guy who then blogged to defend the use of steroids by professional wrestlers, as opposed to other pro athletes, since it didn't give them any actual competitive advantage. He compared it to botox as something simply cosmetic. That (and a very lukewarm debut) led to TNA dropping their plans for him, since comments like that were akin to waving a red flag in front of the Congressional committee bull.

It's sad that he ended up dead so young but this one goes down in my mind as one of the least surprising deaths in the business.

That's just chilling, apparently somewhere along the way he got back into that rut (speculation at this point, but highly likely)

It's just a shame that athletes allow themselves to follow this path of self destruction. Wrestling needs some big names in the business to step up and call the McMahons and others that foster the "You need to fill up on pain pills and HGH or lose your job" mentality out.

The one thing that irritates me so much about McMahon is whenever he gets interviewed about it he goes into character, getting blustery and trying to spin everything back, acting like it is all the Wrestlers fault. He is an arrogant piece of shit who isn't even man enough to admit that his business practices basically force or at one time forced wrestlers to make a choice. Get big and wrestle hurt, or find another line of work. I know it is probably better now due to all the scrutiny, but it is still not fixed and he still needs to bear more responsbility.

Then again, hard to put that entirely on Vince when products featuring smaller workers don't draw the ratings that products featuring musclebound freaks do.

ROH has some third rate TV deal, TNA barely breaks even compared to (today's) ECW.

Vince pushes the look he pushes in part because that's what he personally prefers but he also does it because those guys tend to be guys that get over with a lot less effort than smaller guys with more basic skill.
