If Shanahan was such an offensive genius he’d have CMC and Samuel in the wildcat the rest of the game. USD represent, but having Josh Johnson out there in the NFC championship game is just playing a man short.

Cinderella as the bumper music since they're from Philly. I guess my generation has really taken over the positions that matter most.

John Lynch has basically built a Pro Bowl roster on both sides of the ball.

Might we be overrating Shanahan a bit?

I didn't know Travis Kelce was questionable for today's game. I actually learned something from Gronk.

The Niners narrowly winning this and having 2 weeks to get some old head QB(Eli, Rivers, Big Ben, etc) ready for the Super Bowl is a good sports movie.

Having a QB back there who can’t throw (either one) is absolutely crazy

I guess my prayers that there wouldn't be any major injuries in this game wasn't heard. It will be pretty crazy if McCaffrey has to step in now

I mean, it makes it look like the Eagles are world beaters, but I agree with you, the game looks like shit. Almost can't take it seriously.

My wife is a 49ers fan. What a shitty way to end your season.

She turned it off and went upstairs after the end around flea flicker.

The NFL should have a third QB eligible rule if the first two are deemed injured. The third QB is still going to be bad, but at least you wouldn't be in a situation where the game turns into a reenactment of the time before the forward pass was legal.

I was just wondering what kind of rules changes we'd see from this game. The NFL hates being embarrassed like this.

I am following things online so maybe they covered this on the broadcast. What happened to the inactive 3rd QB who only became eligible to play if QB1 and QB2 were injured? Now that it would make a huge difference for SF but it feels irresponsible to have Purdy out there unable to throw the ball.

What an absolute garbage game for a conference championship game. Nobodies fault, it just sucks.

About the only positive for me is that this locks the Broncos' 1st round draft pick because the 49ers are now done.

This game was about as embarrassing as when the Lakers only had 8 players a few years back and 4 of them got hurt/fouled out. Granted the Lakers won that game but it was still embarrassing for the league.

The NFL had a 3rd QB rule in place for situations like that game. They got rid of it which is why Purdy came back in just to hand the ball off. I am surprised that they got rid of the emergency inactive QB that long ago tbh.

I thought I remembered that. If the third string guy came in, the other two Qb's couldn't return to the game, right? No one ever brings it up, so I thought I was imagining it.

Solid takeaway here from that article:
Quote:
But the most likely result of the change to 46 active players on Sundays may just be that teams will add another active player at another position and keep two quarterbacks active on Sundays. For most teams, having extra depth at another position will be more useful than the ability to insert the third quarterback into the game whenever they please.

That's ultimately on the Niners.

Has there ever been a Super Bowl with two black starting QBs before?

Sure, but it isn't to the league's benefit to have awful play in high-visibility games.

Nope, it was a great punt. I don't like going deep there when you only needed 3 yards for a first down, but it worked out.
