The Bay over the Hay!!

2010 was pressure packed with 54 year drought, 02 meltdown

2012 was so on/off, bad losses, desperate must wins, til the tigers...

2014 enjoyable because no pressure, always the underdog, classic good defense, pitching and small ball. 4 rookies and journeyman, go figure

I won't complain about this World Series matchup. Definitely going to pull for the Royals.

SportsNation poll over on ESPN site has 67% of nation and 47 out of 50 states rooting for Royals. California, Nevada, and Hawaii are the holdouts.

I'm honestly surprised they're that low, actually. Their opponent is a west coast team that has won it two of the last four seasons and used to play Barry Bonds on a regular basis. I guess it helps that the team has no villains to root against.

They knocked out the Cardinals. That increases their likeability for a lot of people.

I don't think "who you knock out" is much of a factor. I think it's pretty simple - people "say" they like to see the underdog/new team. But, they often don't end up watching in the numbers they would if it was Cards/Yankees or Dodgers/Sox. There are going to be a lot of "Royals fans" in polls and on social media, but ratings aren't going to show it. Much like when Butler and VCU made the NCAA final four and everyone says how cool it is - but not near the numbers watch VCU-Butler that watched Kentucky-UCONN. Being for the underdog is cool, but often not enough for you to invest much in the games unless there is a bad guy to root against.

Perhaps, but TBS's ratings seem to indicate the opposite:

TBS caught an unlucky break despite a decent MLB postseason - Awful Announcing

TBS is also having a solid postseason from a ratings perspective. Entering Wednesday’s Game 4, the network was averaging a 3.3 rating and 5.3 million viewers for the Royals/Orioles American League Championship Series. That was actually up six percent in ratings and 13 percent in viewers from last year’s Dodgers/Cardinals National League Championship Series, which TBS aired exclusively in most of the same timeslots. The series has (so far) peaked with 6.0 million viewers for Game 3. This followed a Wild Card and Division Series where TBS saw increases for six of their seven broadcasts.

We will see how the series does in comparison to the Cards-Sox one. A 6 percent jump for the LCS doesn't necessarily mean the World Series will do better. There's probably some local novelty to both AL teams being this far for the first time in decades, but I'm not sure it will translate into the World Series which strives for a bigger national audience. We shall see.

What happened to the real stadium? Fire? Why are they gonna have the WS at a minor league park?

That joke was made a couple of months ago. You're way late on that.

With that said, Kauffman Stadium is the reason that most new stadiums now have open skyline outfields, windows in the outfield, waterfalls, etc. It continues to be a stadium that was far ahead of its time when it was built. While they were building Kauffman Stadium, there was nothing but cookie cutters being built elsewhere. They had the vision to open up the view while still seating 40K in the stands.

Most people that don't have a 'KC complex' consider Kauffman Stadium a below average MLB park.

I'd say its rated about where it should be considering it was built in 1973.

But if you listen to a certain poster, it sounds like it should be considered one of the great cathedrals of the game.

I don't think it was considered that the last time the Royals made the World Series.

I believe Kauffman is also the reason stadiums today have bases, outfield fences and gravity

The fact that the Royals didn't have to share a stadium with the Chiefs is why Kauffman only seats 40,000.

bro, always enjoyed your wit. You have to excuse our exuberant fan, they don't win pennants very often and not used how to react.

For the record, I'm good with either team winning. SF has long been my 3rd favorite NL team (after SD and StL) and I'm also excited to see KC winning a pennant for the junior league.

Exactly. No one at that time even considered the concept of baseball only/football only on the same spot right next to each other. That was crazy talk, but now it's considered a very innovative design move. Not only that, but they had an open baseball stadium that could still seat 40K.

KC has three of the top four stadium/arena designers in the nation. All three of those companies have their roots in the design team of the Truman Sports Complex. AT&T Park was designed right here in KC, along with most other major U.S. stadiums.

Game day!!!!!!! Time to go win Game 1! I snagged my official WS program last night!

They've been available in advance, or even by mail order, for many many years.
I have an All-Star game program somewhere from the late 70's through just that method.

Well that's just your fault for winning the LCS's so quickly!

I dislike some parts of baseball's playoff schedule - no way there should ever be more than the 2 off day's after game 2 and 5, but with all the logistics necessary these days I accept the necessity for having a static schedule (and needing to put time for the LCS's to go 7.)

Why is he called Big Game James Shields? He hasn't been good this postseason. They've won all his starts but not because of him. Probably won't get bailed out this time.

Brutal, just brutal. And pulling the first pitch he sees on the outside. If you're swinging pitch one after a walk, it'd better be your pitch. Especially when a single would have been huge.
