Not so fast...I think the Young Bucks are very near the caliber of the Briscoes right now.

...of course Jack and Jerry are in their mid 60's, but still....

I believe that last year's Nigel would have been very successful, but this year's one is broken down and a shadow of his former self. He can't even do his finisher anymore, both of his arms have torn biceps! I really thought they would have poached Aries or Tyler Black before taking Nigel because of this.

Former WWE star Jeff Hardy was arrested today on charges of trafficking in controlled prescription pills and possession of anabolic steroids, according to The Pilot in North Carolina.

The Pilot reported Hardy was arrested after a search of his home turned up "262 Vicodin prescription pills, 180 Soma prescription pills, 555 milliliters of anabolic steroids, a residual amount of powder cocaine and items of drug paraphernalia."

WWE would turn Tyler Black - with some vocal coaching - into the next Edge.

Why does that make him a trafficer? Sounds like what an average pro wrestler needs to get to sleep in a given night.

Tyler Black has a different contract then everyone else in ROH because they look at him as their savior so he isn't going anywhere. He's only 24 though so there is time. Aries is a malcontent and way too outspoken to ever make it anywhere in WWE.

Wow. That was messed up, but funny. I wonder if they both agreed that it was ok for him to say that stuff.

Can't see that video at work, but I assume it's CM Punk's rant about Hardy's drug use and suspensions?

He did these for weeks, and it was the entire basis of a storyline they had. Fun stuff, though I'm still not sure how CM Punk was the heel there (but I think that's what makes a good storyline).

Ah, ok. I never watch Smackdown, so I never saw it.

Tyler Black is WWE bound eventually, I think they're letting him get some experience in RoH before pulling him in.

Frankly, I'm surpirsed that TNA hasn't been making any effort into getting some of these guys. Their entire roster is pathetic, a pack of 40 somethings that are well past their prime (which is why WWE let them go in the first place). They definitely wouldn't get Roderick Strong or Austin Aries though, they let those guys job out years ago before releasing them. It was pretty sad since they're both pretty talented.

I'm not much of a wrestling fan but would turn it on once in awhile if I was bored. I actually liked TNA awhile back when it was mostly their own homegrown talent like AJ Styles, Abyss, Christopher Daniels, etc. They were unique and kind of went against the WWE mold of huge guys with not much innovation in the ring.

Which is why I never understood why they just kept going at the WWE's scraps. I can understand pushing Angle, but guys like Booker T, Kevin Nash, Sting, and Scott Steiner are just washed up and played out. Why not push new and unique talent that would seperate yourselves from your biggest competitor?

I also echo the sentiments of those on the PPV. I just don't see why anyone would order one these days in either organization. There is no buildup, no drama, no intensity. I remember the old days where you'd have 2-3 months of buildup to a PPV and it was explosive. Not saying they need to go that route, but dropping 4-5 PPVs a year would really help to make them special. It seems like there is a show on every day of the week now and it's just oversaturated.

Dola.

I just remembered one of the big reasons I avoid Smackdown - The Undertaker. He's always annoyed me beyond belief. I liked Paul Bearer, but to me, UT has always been exactly what his gimmick is - Lifeless.

It makes me pretty sick to admit this but it's ratings. With the home grown talent they were running at slightly more than half the level they're pulling now. And the segments with homegrown (male) talent are typically among the lowest rated of the night. The knockouts top the segment ratings virtually every week no matter what combination they run out there, followed by Angle segments and then Foley and/or Sting segments, and even washed up guys like Steiner, Nash, & Booker draw better numbers pretty consistently ahead of nearly anyone else. And IIRC Roode/Storm are better at holding audiences than the ostensibly bigger names than any of the non WWE rejects.

It's a sorry state of affairs but from a ratings standpoint the results have proven that Spike was right to pressure TNA about the hirings, Dixie was right in making those decisions, and me & the legion of smarks aren't big enough to outweight the number of people who'd rather watch Foley talk to a puppet than watch Shelley & Sabin (unless they're toking on YouTube apparently).

yep. it's all about the ratings and the "name value" of those WWE-rejects. Frustrating...but that's the way it is.

Good grief. 'Net reports say the newest member of the TNA "creative" (I use the term loosely) team is none other than Ed Ferrara, who is backstage & appears to be involved in the last minute creative preparations.

Anyone who has the misfortune of watching WCW when he last got together with Russo understands why I cringe at even the prospect.

Shane McMahon resigned from WWE today. It will take effect January 1, 2010.

Wonder if he finally takes the plunge into MMA? That has been the rumor around him for a long time.

That sucks. He's been my favorite for a long time. He was great every time he made an appearance.

With as athletic as he is, I can see him doing MMA...but he's a little old and has no experience (I assume), so I don't see anything coming of it.

Haha, boy did I get that wrong.

Hope he wouldn't be doing it to challenge the UFC, because he would have no chance at all.

He failed his WWE physical which is why he is in TNA now. Nigel can sure as hell work, but he does not seem long for the wrestling world.

TNA President Dixie Carter and several top flight TNA officials are at Hulk Hogan's press conference in New York City at Madison Square Garden right now.

The former WCW and WWF champion has inked a deal to join TNA with former WCW Vice President Eric Bischoff joining him in the company as well.

Obviously, this is going to be the start of major changes for the organization.

We'll have more on this breaking story shortly.

Whatever comes of this - things certainly won't be boring and stale, like the WWE. It may be god awful, but it probably won't be boring.

{shakes head sadly in a mixture of resignation & disgust}

Styles, Joe, and Daniels jobbing to Hogan might be the end of wrestling for me for good.

I would describe that scenerio as hilliariously awful.

I was under the impression that Hogan couldn't physically work anymore - it's been about 4 years since he's had a match, hasn't it? Of course, he does need the money.

Any word about what their role actualy is? Are they being signed as on-air performers or this just some kind of business relationship?

Interesting take from Mike Johnson (who I despise but his interpretations of things aren't usually terrible)
Hogan talked about TNA and stated he was becoming a "partner" in the company and that he was feeling great and looking forward to being a part of the company. The conference left the impression Hogan may be involved as a personality, but not wrestling for the group.

I hope the same is true for Bischoff. He's a strong on-screen performer, but keep him away the hell away from the booking team.

Until someone decides "you know what would be totally awesome? If we had Hogan the manager TOTALLY SQUASH [insert name wrestler that Jon likes] in a lame in-ring segmet!"

The only thing worse than Hogan the wrestler squashing your talent is Hogan the "not even a wrestler" squashing your talent.

I don't know what's sadder... that you're saying that bringing back Hulk Hogan in ther year 2009 isn't boring and stale, or that relative to the WWE product you're probably right.
