Nice job, wolves. I really admired the way you were able to navigate through the game in what I thought was a challenging ruleset.

Yeah, I didn't know the game was going to end instantly. I wanted Mrs. Schmidty to put on the last vote on Schmidty for forgetting her birthday, but then Mccollins sent in a last second change for me to kill him for her instead. Either way, bad Schmidty!

(3:47:35 PM) hoopsguy1154: you around?
(3:47:39 PM) AE FOFC: yeah (3:47:43 PM) hoopsguy1154: want to hammer out draft order now? (3:48:01 PM) AE FOFC: I suppose we can. (3:48:10 PM) AE FOFC: I was doing a little 'homework' on the newer players (3:48:15 PM) AE FOFC: but it's not a big deal (3:49:28 PM) hoopsguy1154: if you need some time we can do it later (3:49:34 PM) AE FOFC: I'm good. (3:49:41 PM) hoopsguy1154: i just don't know exactly what time my kid goes down at night, and i know you didn't want to run too long tonight (3:49:45 PM) AE FOFC: Near the end players aren't that huge of a deal (3:49:57 PM) hoopsguy1154: probably not - ok, i'll get it started with chief rum as my initial wolf (3:50:29 PM) AE FOFC: alright. (3:50:41 PM) hoopsguy1154: i'm sure he is fired up about being the #1 draft pick (3:50:47 PM) hoopsguy1154: and breaking the bank with his signing bonus (3:50:51 PM) AE FOFC: true (3:51:10 PM) AE FOFC: Ironically, that's exactly who I thought you'd take. (3:51:20 PM) hoopsguy1154: i'm looking to assign roles at the end, when i see how the teams shake out (3:51:22 PM) AE FOFC: I'll go Alan T and Barkeep. (3:51:28 PM) hoopsguy1154: why did you think he would be #1, btw? (3:51:39 PM) AE FOFC: premonition or something. (3:51:42 PM) AE FOFC: it's who I'd take. (3:52:13 PM) hoopsguy1154: yeah, was hoping he would be less likely to be scanned than the guys you took. he seems to get a good amount of latitude based on his schedule (3:53:26 PM) hoopsguy1154: time for me to throw out a trend-breaker - #4 pick is Danny (3:53:37 PM) AE FOFC: interesting (3:53:44 PM) AE FOFC: that's someone I had no clue on (3:53:49 PM) AE FOFC: I needed homework on him. (3:53:49 PM) hoopsguy1154: i'm hoping that he isn't an early scan for being new player, will be interesting to how people think i will think (3:54:14 PM) hoopsguy1154: but i thought he played very solid first game, looks like he is willing to put in the time, so i'll take a risk here in efforts to put together a team without clear trends (3:54:30 PM) AE FOFC: I get four if I'm not mistaken. (3:54:35 PM) hoopsguy1154: you are correct, sir (3:54:41 PM) hoopsguy1154: (in best ed mcmahon voice) (3:54:44 PM) AE FOFC: I'll go right off my big board (3:54:55 PM) AE FOFC: and take what I consider the four best players available (3:54:57 PM) AE FOFC: Lathum (3:55:01 PM) AE FOFC: Passacaglia (3:55:04 PM) AE FOFC: Saldana (3:55:09 PM) AE FOFC: Render (3:55:31 PM) hoopsguy1154: i think you've got names out there that people will think i took (3:55:51 PM) hoopsguy1154: i might have taken lathum here if he fell, with the idea that "no one would pick lathum as a wolf, he would have to be scanned!" (3:55:54 PM) AE FOFC: oh clearly (3:56:08 PM) AE FOFC: I thought you'd take one of those four for sure (3:56:54 PM) hoopsguy1154: ok, i'll continue to let you get your top picks. next selection is mccollins (3:57:06 PM) AE FOFC: another interesting choice (3:57:11 PM) AE FOFC: another I had no read on (3:57:18 PM) AE FOFC: I feel at a bit of a disadvantage (3:57:25 PM) hoopsguy1154: yeah, was thinking i might have been able to get him after your 8 picks (3:57:43 PM) hoopsguy1154: but i decided to just grab him here, rather than take a chance that he was one of your late picks in this batch of eight (3:57:50 PM) AE FOFC: he wasn't. (3:57:52 PM) hoopsguy1154: another guy that potentially will be tough to root out (3:58:23 PM) hoopsguy1154: he posts a lot, but doesn't have that many games under his belt. and has given me fits when i've been a wolf. so i want to see how he plays as a wolf (3:58:29 PM) AE FOFC: ah (3:58:38 PM) AE FOFC: next 8: (3:58:44 PM) AE FOFC: LoneStarGirl (3:58:46 PM) AE FOFC: Schmidty (3:58:49 PM) AE FOFC: DaddyTorgo (3:58:52 PM) AE FOFC: Kwhit (3:58:55 PM) AE FOFC: Sndvls (3:58:59 PM) AE FOFC: oliegirl (3:59:06 PM) AE FOFC: GoldenEagle (3:59:11 PM) AE FOFC: claphamsa (3:59:45 PM) hoopsguy1154: a couple of people there that i would have been happy to grab with this pick (4:00:09 PM) hoopsguy1154: ok, another new player and 1st time wolf to be - mrs schmidty (4:00:28 PM) AE FOFC: interesting (4:00:44 PM) AE FOFC: I'll take telle and packerfanatic (4:00:53 PM) hoopsguy1154: that leaves me eaglefan, and we are wrapped (4:01:33 PM) hoopsguy1154: ok, my team is super-quiet - so lets nail down roles (4:01:38 PM) AE FOFC: sure (4:03:31 PM) hoopsguy1154: i'll start with my cunning wolf - lets go with chief rum. duh - highest profile player gets the role that protects against the scan (4:03:40 PM) AE FOFC: word (4:03:46 PM) AE FOFC: Alan T is the duke (4:04:33 PM) hoopsguy1154: i'll give eaglefan the cultist role (4:04:57 PM) AE FOFC: BK is the spy (4:05:15 PM) hoopsguy1154: sorceror = mrs s (4:05:27 PM) AE FOFC: Lathum is the seer (4:05:51 PM) hoopsguy1154: should have given him fake seer - would be second time in 2-3 games (4:05:57 PM) AE FOFC: ha (4:06:29 PM) hoopsguy1154: brutal = danny (4:06:31 PM) AE FOFC: 2 masons will be render and telle (4:06:37 PM) hoopsguy1154: heh (4:06:43 PM) AE FOFC: easy enough (4:06:48 PM) AE FOFC: IIRC (4:07:09 PM) hoopsguy1154: that leaves you with philosopher, hunter, bodyguard, and fake seer? I just want to remind people that per the rules you are not allowed to be upset if you were picked lower than you thought your play justified.
I also want to present EagleFan with the Tom Brady Award, for being the last player selected, and playing one of the great games in Werewolf history! I also thought Schmidty, Passacaglia, and of course all the wolves played terrific games. |

I can comment on my picks:
#1 Chief Rum - I wanted a guy who has a few games under his belt who doesn't attract too much attention. #1 criteria here was to stay alive for a few days. I expected I would make this pick my cunning wolf, but didn't really have much in way of pre-conceived notions about other roles #4 Danny - I wanted a trend-breaker here. I knew there would be speculation about who I would draft and I wanted to go off the map. Plus I had liked what I had seen from Danny in his previous game as a villager, so I figured I would make him a wolf. #9(?) Mccollins - He has given me some trouble as a villager when I'm a wolf, so I figured that I would take this opportunity to see how he plays as a wolf. Again, someone who I think isn't likely to die too early and isn't easily going to be fingered as a "hoopsguy" pick. #19 Mrs Schmidty - played a great first game, so let's see how the whole wolf thing works out. This is the 4th person that I picked that I've never played with as a wolf, and I believe the 3rd person I'm making a 1st time wolf. If people were looking for trends, those would have been the winners. #22 EagleFan - I've played with him a couple of times before, so I cast him as the cultist. I wanted to follow along with the conversation from the people that I've never played with more than I wanted to see EF as a wolf for the 3rd time. But I wish I could have been on the listening end to his thoughts via PM this game - he really had the wolves off-balance all the way to the end. |

Notes on the roles:
The Duke could, once per game, make the result of the vote no-lynch. This would not work if he would have been the leading vote-getter. The Bodyguard could not protect himself. He could, however, protect any other player as often as he wanted with no restrictions. The fake Seer (SnDvls) would get a result of villager every time. The cultist did not know which wolf was the cunning or brutal, etc. All other roles were as advertised. |

Whoever came up with the idea that the GMs would have made Lathum the last pick really gave them too much credit I'm shocked Lathum was the real seer though!

I need to stand up for Poli. I thought he drafted just fine. I think Lathum was a fine choice for seer - he is hardly ever night killed, and his instincts are usually pretty good. I told Poli I think I would have made him one of the masons, since I think that role in this ruleset rewards creative play (not that Render and Telle aren't creative, and they actually did quite well with the roles - their "reveal" had the potential to turn the game around).
And just because things broke right for hoops doesn't mean he made all the right moves. I thought Chief Rum was the obvious #1, but I think only Lathum ever mentioned this possibility, and then just once. So I would have made Rum the brutal, and given either Danny or mccollins the cunning. Had Rum been caught early, this would have been almost an impossible game for the wolves to win. |

I like to make the roles so it makes revealing a harder decision. It didn't really work, as Alan, Lathum, and DT all basically revealed on D1.

One other note: D1 Lathum had sent in an order to scan Mrs. Schmidty, which he changed to Telle close to deadline. Had he not faltered on that, the game could have broken completely differently.

Being out of the game for most of a year, I drafted by known commodities. I put any bitter feelings aside and tried to go with experience of playing. I tried to give the more experienced players the better roles, thinking they'd make the best use of them. I had no idea that Lathum would 'always' receive such scrutiny.
I was actually quite thrilled with the quality of players I received. There were a number of times where someone would ping a wolf and I'd cheer...only to see the vote change or go to the wayside. Bummer. Things I may have done differently, and not to hurt anyone's feelings: 1. No matter what I still would have drafted the way I did. 2. I probably don't make Lathum the seer knowing now how much of a 'target' he is. 3. I wouldn't make DT the bodyguard had I knew he'd spout off (again, not trying to be mean, it's just I thought you'd lay low with the role). 4. I would have assigned someone else the philosopher role. I kinda remember now that Schmidty has a weird schedule, it probably could have been better used elsewhere. Sorry gang.

Poli: I still think you did just fine. I really feel like the team you assembled had the talent to win, and didn't.

I think you did fine too. It may not have worked out, but other than making sure I was on the village side (jk), I'm not sure what you could have done better with your draft

Chief Rum on day two was also a close call. I think the best thing we did as wolves was to play the entire game calm and confident. We never linked from one to another and gave the village plenty of opportunities to over think things.

Poli, I think you drafted very well too...the villagers just got a lot of bad breaks. And the wolves capitalized on every one of those breaks.

Wow indeed, this would have changed the entire landscape of the game. Talk about alternate realities! |
