Officially checking in, celebrated my mom's birthday tonight with margaritas...lots and lots of margaritas. I'm hoping I cut myself off early enough to avoid a hangover tomorrow morning. I'm not as young as I used to be

You know, I don't see a lot of people getting drunk on wine in this thread.

I'll make the plunge - working on a Meritage here this evening and it is pretty tasty.

The problem with wine is that it takes a couple of bottles to get a really good drunk on, and that shit can get expensive if you want to drink something more than decent...

Yeah, although with my tolerance levels by the time I hit the 2nd bottle it doesn't need to be all that expensive

I'm a bit buzzed. Had some wine while cooking dinner (and then with dinner...mmm stir fry + corn on the cob). And Mr. Daniels and I got a little closer.

Ok, I needs me some help. I rarely drink and when I do, and when I did more often, I stuck with beer so I don't have a whole lot of experience with buying alcohol.

I just bought a bottle of cheap wiskey from the store and it has one of those black plastic security caps on it. I can't figure out how to get the fucker off. I bought one about a year ago and it was easy ( just screwed it off ) and I didn't think I'd have trouble with this one but it's got me.

I'm pretty sure it's not supposed to be taken off at the store but if it's security then what is it's purpose unless it's hard to get off? I don't know but I want the fucker off and I don't want to cut it off.

This one has two pieces of plastic with the bottom one push upable. I've tried screwing the cap off with it up and down and nothing. I've tried screwing the two parts apart and again nothing. No instructions on the thing either.

Any ideas?

OK, just went to the website of the cap makers and saw a video that says, yes, it requires a special key to open but the cap I have doesn't have the slots for that key. This is annoying.

Maybe. I've managed to force the two pieces apart but that didn't help at all. I know one store that has lost my business that's for sure. If they sold me a product that requires them to deactivate and they didn't then they lost my business.

Finally,

With much toil I cracked the bastard. I'm impressed that they did this much work to protect a $10 bottle of booze. Anyway, working with minimal tools, ( I was expecting to take a drink not break into fort knox so I had a pair of scissors and a manual can opener to work with ) I deconstructed the thing.

It turns out that it has three separate layers. Now, the electronic thingie is fairly easy to remove as it sits right under the first layer but getting it and getting alcohol isn't the same thing. The second layer is the bitch. It's the one that binds the two and I had to fully remove the first layer before I could do much with the second one. Once the second one fell the third one came right off.

Phew, I need a drink now.

The last time I got one it really was just a screw off one. Is this a different one or was one of the two defective, oh and how effective is the electronic thingie if I just walked out of the store and it didn't do shit?
