Nothing to do with your post other than its Magicka-just wanted to tell you that I tried to play it a bit after we chatted this morning. Say tried because I got to the point where you cut the rope with your sword to move on...and nothing happened no matter how many ways I tried it...so I didn't get very far.

Very wonky control scheme for the game especially movement, and no ability to change the controls for a few things. May mean I don't play the game very much if I can ever get past the rope. Saw others having the same problem, so doesn't seem to be owner ineptitude this time around.

I did the same thing at that exact point the first time. The problem is it tells you what to do and if you don't read it quick enough, you miss the next instruction as it doesn't tell you again.

Shift-Left Click uses the sword on the rope. THe rope has to be highlighted too. It takes a few hits to sever it as well. I don't know what's with that. restart and it should work. That may be a bug as well as the missing it actually. But if quit then restart the game at that point, it should work. Did for me.

Okay I'll try that CF, thanks. I shift-left clicked all over the rope when it was lit and got nowhere, so hopefully with a restart it will work.

Free Steam games list - Steam Users' Forums

The Free Steam games list. Some decent non mod games on that list. Alien Swarm is pretty fun co-op.

went back and tried again and this time it worked-took three tries to break it. Finished the tutorial, and while I like the concept of how magic works-too confusing to use in practice when you have to remember what combos to use for the best result.

I think that's a lot of the fun though - messing around with different combinations is awesome. Also, the game is a totally different beast in multiplayer. I almost have more fun blowing myself up than succeeding at the game

The "Total Biscuit" video of him playing multiplayer with friends is great. Really gave me an idea of what it's like and how you can have different people doing different things in combats.

As for the confusion of spells, take notes and have your notes next to you as you play.

Just wanted to say thanks for the heads up on this one a few days ago. My son rolled the dice (in spite of not meeting min specs to run it at all) and lo & behold, it's running for him.

Considering he's spent the past several months watching YouTube videos of a guy playing with the various mods that are out far more than he watches television, needless to say, he's a very happy camper about being able to mess with them himself.

Valve said that Steam Big Picture Mode is close to release. Hopefully in addition to getting developers on board with including an option for a console like UI to games they can also get developers to include an optimized PC UI so we don't have things like the Skyrim UI on PC. Probably a pipe dream, but I can hope.

http://steampowered.com/steamworks/thebigpicture.php

Here's a link to their Big Picture Mode info. Not a whole lot of details, though hopefully it allow Steam to connect to your TV through your wifi network allowing a sort of local OnLive type system.

For anyone with an SSD that wants to install Steam to it for some games but not be limited to only using it, here's a reddit post with instructions for how to set up installing on different drives. This is really a feature Steam needs to be able to handle locally though.

Currently loving Orcs Must Die. Finally got through War Mage mode. Now I'm alternating between dual goals of completing Nightmare mode and getting five skulls on every War Mage level.

TF2 gets a weekly update, and most of Valve's online games get frequent updates. Part of it is bug fixes, changes to the engine or balance fixes, but they're also to add new maps or items (it may be old, but it's also a F2P game that gets a lot of new content). There are also things like holiday events, plus TF2 is often used to test out new features or ideas Valve has for games.

EDIT: If you're curious to see what they did in the first 119 updates - http://www.teamfortress.com/119/

What FOFC Steam group? I checked once and the one "FOFC" group was like 2 scary dudes, completely unrelated to this forum. Do we have one? What's the name?

Steam now has a mobile app. It is in beta right now, but I have an invite if anyone wants to try it. Shows my friends list on the phone and I can peruse games and purchase from there as well. Will be great for their big sales when I'm on the road.

I'd like an invite. I was wanting just this app during the Christmas sales. Kinda odd it would come out right after those, instead of before them.

Got a new PC (YAYYYYY ME!!!!) and even though I was a Steam fan before, I'm more of one now. Never has transferring games from one computer to another been so easy. I copied the Steam folder on my old computer (Program Files/Steam) - all 126GB of it - and moved it to the new PC (Program Files (x86)/Steam) and it worked like a charm. All of my games, saved games...they all showed up. Brilliant!

It took less time to move the Steam folder than it did to download just one game (like The Witcher 2), never mind the other dozen or so games I had to get from various services (Direct2Drive, Origin, Impulse, GoG, GamersGate and Amazon).

It was weird. I would say maybe two days before they announced the Steam app, I had just searched for such an app on my iPhone.

I willed this into existence with my mind.

You're welcome.

Three words, my friend: Steam. Holiday. Sales.

Not at your PC when the sales are announced and wont be for a day because of vacation or what not? Log into the app, see what games are ridiculously low priced and purchase said games via this app.

Crisis averted.

I also just got a new computer and love Steam Cloud for the games that have it, especially since it seems like games use about 5 or 6 different locations for saved games.

There's not a whole lot you can do with the app right now, though I believe there is going to be Steam Workshop integration added at some point. Skyrim will be the first game to use it for mods and you'll be able to chose mods to download on your phone and either have them download when you log into Steam when you get home or instantly if you left Steam running.
