What's the over\under on him pulling a Gary Busey and jumping back on a hog a few weeks after he is up and around, declaring that they can take his bike when they pry it from his cold, dead fingers?

I hope people learn from his experience since apparently some people haven't learned from Kellen Winslow Jr and Jay Willaims' experiences...

wha?!

If you have a learner's permit, you can still drive a cycle. Not at night and some other rules. Don't know specific state rules.

So, not having a license isn't that big a deal.

Roethlisberger had a learner's permit to operate a motorcycle that expired March 29 but had never taken the written and driving tests for a motorcycle license, a source told KDKA.

So the guys gonna get dropped from his insurance and may have to pay out of pocket for medical coverage.

Still, doesn't take away from the event and the seriousness of the main theme of Daddy Dipshit not wearing a helmet.

I harken back to the childlike face that Mark Hamill lost after his accident. I, as well as many women across the country, hope the surgery didn't change his looks that much.

I wonder, with the broken jaw and all the missing teeth, if he'll have trouble enunciating?

"What was that, Ben, forty-bleah white with a moofah lavah thump?"

I always thought it would be funny if the mumble-mouth shouter guy on SNL did a skit where he was the quarterback of a football team and no one got the signals.

I don't buy this. Ben is going to have all sorts of issues to work through in the coming months and that's if everything reported is accurate. I think people are jumping the gun on this one bigtime.

Just read that Pennsylvania law requires one to wear a helmet unless they've either had a motorcycle license for two years (and are over 21) or they are over 21 and have completed a motorcycle safety course.

Edit: Okay, a further search led me to this. Nothing mentioned about needing a license.

Yep, it's just the pittsburgh press trying to make a story where there isn't one, yet. They do it all the time.

That's one of the problems I'm talking about. Overall conditioning, how the other breaks in his face heal up. Is there any "bump" or "bruise" that is worse than intitial indications made it appear? I mean, there are all sorts of issues to be making a call now on Game 1 of the season.

For now, everyone should just be thankful the guys alive and continue to hope all goes well in his recovery.

He might also have to wear a mask like Rip Hamilton underneath his helmet. Not to mention what kind of stress will be put on his head and face when he gets sacked and knocked to the ground. I am glad that he survived and maybe he will lead a normal life, but a normal life and a life in the NFL are very far apart in general.

I believe it was former Phillies 1st Basemen Ricky Jordan who almost choked to death when, after breaking his jaw and having it wired shut, he decided to put a bunch of seafood into a blender and drink a seafood shake. Not to long after begining to sip the concoction, he realized that a seafood shake did not taste as good as he might have expected and he began to vomit into his wired shut mouth.

Toward the bottom of the article. BTW, pretty interesting stuff.

Exactly. But, anyway, then the accident happened around here?

No. What happened was that I was on the wrong freeway. I was way out in the sticks somewhere and there were no cars and no traffic, thank God. I was going about 65-70 mph... I was speeding, going too fast... and what happened, I think, was that I tried to negotiate an off-ramp and lost control, tumbled over, and went off the road. I fractured my nose and my cheek.

Sounds like a pretty traumatic experience.

Yes. It's such a monumental kind of thing that I can't even put it all together in my head.

quite honestly, vomiting while being wired shut was my biggest fear out of the whole thing and was always on my mind, at least in the first couple of weeks, when I was getting back to normal, recuperating from the surgery and the general aenesthesia (sp?)...

Press Conference at 4:00 pm...I was trying to listen on the local FSN AM station. What I got out of it was lots of jacked up stuff from the neck up. No structural damage to the knees.

Sadly, this is true. I can't think of a single athlete in New Orleans who would get that kind of ongoing coverage. Not Deuce McAllister, not Chris Paul, not Aaron Bailey (arena footlol). Nobody. I mean, with Ben, I GET it, but it's just hard to imagine all this fuss because I've never seen anything like it.

unless they have changed it, the law also requires a rider with a permit to be within 6 or 10 feet of another rider that does have a license...that used to be the way it was, not sure anymore.

Well they said Ben's brain was still intact with no sustained damage, so maybe he is going for a more physical transformation, though with some of his decisions the mental transformation is only years away.

Yes it's big because it's Ben...but this could have been Jeff Reed, and guarantee you it STILL would have led of the evening news.

OK, in that case, Pittsburgh is just more interested in the Steelers than New Orleans is about any sports.

Here's the big question, though: What if it had been Rod Rutherford?

2nd story, after the weather. Yinzers love the weather too.

It would still be news because he is technically a Steeler, plus add in the hometown boy and Pitt factor. It would still be a huge story, and be covered from multiple angles.

Ten months and I still feel like the fish out of water up here.

By the way, Lee Mays is a hell of a basketball player. Louis Lipps is even better, though.

True...those two fall under the Kordell clause. Any mention of them is met with contempt and ridicule.

But, it would still be a story, because the stations know that use of the word Steelers in their newscast piques the interest of viewers, regardless of what they are talking about.
