Yup. Arriata is taking all of the plaudits, but Kershaw is having just as great of a year. He's FIP is something insane like 1.76. Arrieta has a crazy stat line of .201 OppBABIP. The previous recorded low (only around since the early 2002's, mind you), is .216. Arrieta had like a .246 OppBABIP last season, for reference sake

I can't believe I missed this. Play of the year no doubt.

They should have made him do a curtain call. It was that amazing.

Agree about the Colon HR. The announcers were hilarious on the call as well!

Schoenfeld has a stupid piece up about how the Angels should consider trading Trout. Did I mention that was stupid? Hopefully we get a good draft pick next year.

Decreased production out of Pujols was expected but what has happened has been shocking. By consider did he mean "shop" or if something fabulous was thrown their way to consider accepting? If you could get 3-4 pitching prospects and a couple other hitting prospects you would have to consider right? The Twins won a World Series back in 1991 from trading the previous Cy Young Award winner Frank Viola which brought them Rick Aguilera, Kevin Tapani, David West(#1 prospect in the trade), Tim Drummond and Jack Savage. Baseball is such a team game that a once in a lifetime superstar cant carry a team and often times a bad contract messes a team up for years.

Pujols has aged the way players did before steroids so it's not all that shocking. In some ways, I'm glad it has happened this way because it makes me believe he did everything naturally. It does also make me wonder if he's actually older than is believed.

Viola was 29 and didn't have an incredibly long term, team friendly contract signed. He also wasn't the player Trout is.

It's not terribly difficult to build a playoff caliber team around Trout. You have a 10 win player penciled in centerfield. The problem is the Angels have shot themselves in the foot with long term contract to cover up farm system failures. They should probably start looking to shed contracts now and spend smarter with their eyes on building something more sustained 2-3 years from now. Otherwise they're in danger of wasting Trout's best years.

7.5, 5.3, 4.8, 1.5(2.6 per 160 games), 3.9, 3.1 and negative this year is a fast dive.

Comparison pre steroid whenever that may have been.
Hank Aaron

Willie Mays
8.7, 10.5, 10.6, 11.0, 11.2, 9.0
Ted Williams

Joe Dimaggio
5.1, 4.8, 6.9, 4.4, 5.3, 2.9(4.3 per 160)
Frank Robinson
7.7, 5.4, 3.7, 7.5, 4.8, 3.3

4.6, 2.8, 0.3(???), 3.1, 1.9
Mike Schmidt
8.8, 7.7, 7.4, 6.8, 7.0, 5.0

Certainly some drop off in them players but none of them other than Banks had such a sharp drop off. I mean just 6 years ago he was regarded as the best hitter of his era. The past 4 years he has been a barely above average 1st baseman. And his consistency has all but disappeared.

Strasberg gets Jerry Maguire'd (ie, gets shown the money)

7/175, a bit lower then he'd get on open market, but Strasberg gets a rolling optout after year 3 or 4.

Harper's going to be at least donating some money to charity.. got tossed in the ninth yelling at the ump from the dugout, then minutes later when the Nationals won on a walkoff, pointed at the ump and F-bombed him during the celebration.

Wouldn't be surprised if he gets a game or two off.

Ha! That would be interesting, but I dont see him staying out east. You guys will probably end up with Mike Trout and Albert Pujols as the cost of him

Woke up this morning seeing that my fraternity brother threw Harper out of a game last night. Guess that explains it. Should make for an interesting conversation over beer this winter.

Washington might get their money's worth in this one, but it's just a matter of time before Strasburg's arm blows up again.

I'm not sure they could have let him go, but signing him is very risky.

Boras advising a client to sign before free agency tells me he knows it as well.

His pitching motion isn't quite as bad as Mark Prior's, but he's got some similarities. I'd bet that Boras has some biomechanics folks on his payroll and he's starting to incorporate that data into his agency, taking into account what they feel are risk factors with his stable of pitchers. Strasburg would rate pretty high on that risk table IMO. I think they're smart to get that money locked-in.

The Rangers and White Sox wrapped up a wild series this afternoon. On Monday, the Rangers tagged the previously untouchable White Sox bullpen, and nearly won the game in extra innings but the ChiSox turned a great double play in the bottom of the 11th, then got a grand slam in the top of the 12th.

The game last night had an hour and a half rain delay before the start of the 3rd inning. When the delay ended the White Sox scored 4 in the 3rd and 5 in the 4th. The Rangers then scored 7 in the bottom of the 8th for the comeback win.

Today's game figured to be a pitcher's duel, with Hamels facing off against Latos. Neither starter made it out of the 5th inning, and the Rangers picked up the series win with a 5-3 victory.

Someday someone's going to explain Jackie Bradley Jr's career arc. Or figure out what he is. It sure as heck ain't gonna be me! I won't be surprised if he hits 25 hr's this year or bats .160 the next 2 months.

Braves & Twins both 8-25 at the moment.
Braves are 5 games back of the Brewers (the next worst in the NL), Twins 4.5 behind Houston (next worst in the AL).

At their current pace both would finish 39-133.

That's one game worse than the 1962 Mets

The last time a team was worse than that? 1935 Boston Braves.

Kershaw just saw his K/BB ratio plummet from 20/1 with a 13/1 ratio tonight. Sets a MLB record (obscure really) of 5 straight games with 10+ K's and a walk or less.

So the punishment he received from the criminal justice system wasn't sufficient? He shouldn't be allowed to pursue a professional career in which he possesses exceptional talent?

He sideswiped a telephone pole and damaged a car when drunk, then subsequently went to a strip club and drank more. Was weaving in between lanes before clipping a motorcycle, then ran off and was arrested by police officers after a chase. It was his 3rd DUI.

No, the punishment from the criminal justice system wasn't sufficient.
