The US was just going through the motions until Cuba scored. Then they started playing like they cared and scored 4 unanswered. They are through to the quarterfinals.

Looking to understand what happened AS Monaco after discovering they were in the second league last year, I turned to wikipedia. Always a trusty, reliable source:

Looks like the US is playing for the tie. Hopefully they can get something going in the second half and extend the win streak. I'd much rather face El Salvador than Honduras in the quarterfinals.

I thought about going, but just took the kids on Saturday to the Revs game and didn't think I could talk the wife into two games in one week.

GOOOOAAALLLL!!! That was awesome! Costa Rica nearly scores on the corner, US gets the breakaway, Donovan with an awesome pass to Shea, and he knocked it off the goalie and in!

Ok, this is really kinda cool.

Marseille is preparing for the Ligue 1 season. Toulouse Rugby is preparing for the Top 14 Rugby season. The two teams played a friendly game that featured a first half played under soccer "rules", and the second half under rugby "rules". Of course, this is rather loose definition of "rules". It was called "The Shock" in france. It featured a rugby trick shot from "referee" Eric Cantona.

Vilanova to step down as Barcelona boss due to a cancer relapse.

Holee fuck, if there EVER was a year for someone outside the Big Two in La Liga to win the title, this is the year.

It should be at least 6-1, maybe 6-2.

I've seen so many of these players suck so badly the last year and now they seem like they know what they're doing. I think that is what people don't appreciate with Donovan. Feel he just elevates the game around him no matter who he plays with. He's not the easiest guy to liked my opinion but he is crucial to the USA next year.

Absolutely, I'm not a big fan of his overall, but he and Dempsey can cause havoc when they're playing together in the attacking third. Donovan has a creative nous that we generally lack in American players.

I'm hoping Mix Diskerud keeps performing. He's having a great tournament and his distribution today has been superb. Excellent direct player, wouldn't mind seeing him at West Ham under Big Sam.

That's the record for most USA wins in a row, right?

edit: (whoops, the win over Costa Rica set the record, this is just extending it)

Donovan is our only player that I can remember who can operate in that position between the forwards and the wingers so flawlessly.

I know during the telecast, Wynalda said that Jurgy would have a walk with Donovan after the tournament about the future of Landon with the USNT. Hopefully it goes like this "Welcome back"

I actually think that Dempsey is equal to Donovan in terms of playing that attacking center midfielder position, but where Donovan is more of a playmaker, Dempsey acts more like a second forward making those runs.

With the two of them in the same XI, I think it's better with Dempsey central and Donovan shunted to the right, though I'd like to see Donovan perhaps play on the left so he can cut inside.

Barca hiring Gerardo Martin, previously coaching at Newells Old Boys (Messis former team) and the NT of Paraguay. First job in Europe, seems an unorthodox hire.
When Hiddink quit his job at Anzhi i was sure he was going to be the new guy.

Arsenal have reportedly bid £40,000,001 for Luis Suarez.

Quote Liverpool owner John Henry "What do you think they're smoking over at Emirates."

If I'm Henry, I bite their hands off and invest in players who fit Rodgers' philosophy immediately.
