We got ground into dust by their running game. QB Y.A. Tittle has to do too much with no running game to assist him. We have to correct that next year. The collapse this year is appalling. We were a playoff team 2 years in a row, for heavens sake. |

The (7-7) Pittsburgh Steelers travel to Florida this week. This team is much better than their record. They are strong on both sides of the ball and their O-Line is led by C Bill Walsh (OVR 92). The one thing that has done in the Steelers this year is scoring. When they dont score at least 27 points, they lose. So that is my goal. If I hold them to under 27 points, I should be in a good position to win. Prediction: Jaguars 28 Steelers 24 Last edited by Dolemite73 : 12-04-2011 at 10:57 AM. |

Using my own personalized formula to judge and evaluate players from different positions, I have awarded the following:
Jaguars Offensive MVP - QB Y.A. Tittle (3 years in a row, helluva player) Jaguars Defensive MVP - DE Billy Howton (barely beating out DT Brian Nevarez) Jaguars Rookie of the Year - WR Armando Harrington No surprises here. Harrington was a 4th round steal and should start for us next year. He was our only big play threat. Howton was sort of a disappointment, but I suspect he will get better. |

1953 NFL Draft:
The Jacksonville Jaguars are picking 7th this year. I really want to upgrade my running game this season, so I suspect a HB will be my target. There are some good ones in this draft. I also need to shore up the back end of my secondary, so a SS is high on my list as well. I want to improve mt LB depth too. Jacksonville Retirees and Free Agents: TE David Donovan (retired) QB Joseph Arrendondo (retired) HB Robert Almeida (retired) G John Kern (retired) CB Donald Galloway (retired) WR Bernard Jacobsen (free agent) WR Doug Garcia (free agent) DE Gene Black (free agent) DE Keith Free (free agent) LB Adalberto Lovejoy (free agent) I may look to bring back Black. I wish the rest of our free agents good luck. Last edited by Dolemite73 : 12-10-2011 at 06:56 AM. |

1953 NFL Draft (1st round):
When we get to my pick, my top target at HB is just sitting there waititng to be picked. I waste no time: "With the 7th pick of the 1953 NFL Draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars select..... HB Kevin Temple from Alcorn State University!!! Let's have a look at his player card: This guy is big and fast! He should be quite a load to being down and will punish defensive backs if he can use his speed and elusiveness to get to the third level. I like this pick. Here is the rest of my draft: 2nd - DE William Davis (Kansas - OVR 59) 3rd - LB Harland Svare (Washington State - OVR 49) 4th - SS Gary Arriaga (Wisconsin - OVR 48) 5th - QB Dick Flowers (Northwestern - OVR 22) 6th - WR William Watson (TCU - OVR 11) 7th - P Lealand Trout (Tulane - OVR 82) |

1953 Jacksonville Jaguar Offense:
QB - Our 5th round rookie draft pick is the only change here. Looking at his personality chart, he is a hard worrker. He could turn into a solid backup in the future. HB - We finally have our feature HB. FB - FB Leo Elter is a rookie free agent that we signed during the offseason. He is pretty strong and agile with very good hands. He will start and be a solid FB. WR - We have pretty good depth here. Signing WR Joseph Sasser away from the New York Jets should prove helpful. He has solid stats (239cat/2922yds 21TD's over 3 season) and will be very helpful on third downs. Kind of disheartening to see WR Armando Harrington step back in development. He was awesome last year (17 yards per catch). Rookie WR William Watson goes to the practice squad. TE - We are only going to go with 2 TE's to start the year. TE Rodney Ortega had a productive year last year (60 catches) and continues to be one of the best TE's in the game. If only his attitude was better (He has a disposition of 1). C - C Lou Levanti has taken a step back. Not good. G - I love our starters. Should be able to dominate. We signed G Weldon Humble away from the Cleveland Browns. He will provide us nice depth. T - We signed Pro-Bowl T Jeremy Thomas away from our nemesis Houston Texans with a 3 year/$7 million contract. He was originally a rookie free agent signed by the Texans in 1950 and has developed into a Pro Bowler. We also signed T Bob Reinhard for depth purposes. He played for the New Orleans Saints last season. Last edited by Dolemite73 : 12-16-2011 at 03:08 PM. |

1953 Jacksonville Jaguars Defense:
DE - I like our depth here. We resign DE Gene Black and we pick up DE Tom Wham from the New England Patriots. DT - I hate our depth here. If either of our starters go down with injury, we are in trouble. I will be looking at the waiver wire intently. LB - Not liking our depth here either. CB - We signed CB Bibbles Bawel to a 3 year/5.6 million dollar contract. He played for the Buffalo Bills last year and was a Pro-Bowler last season. We are still very weak here though. I am extremely concerned about this position. SS - SS John Barnhart was signed to a 3year/$6 million contract. He played with the New York Giants last year. He has very good skills and should solidify our secondary in the middle of the field. FS - No changes here. |

We start the season at home playing the (0-0) Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles are going with rookie 2nd round pick QB Don Shore (OVR 42) as their starter this season. He played ok during the preseason (24/42 254yds 1TD). On offense, theu are lead by their Pro-Bowl WR William McKinnon (OVR 86). On defense, they are led by all-world LB Chuck Bednarik (OVR 80). Their main weakness are their weak CB's James Brannon and Glenn Johnson (OVR 30 and 25 respectively). I think QB Y.A. Tittle will feast on them. Prediction: Jaguars 27 Eagles 17 |

Week 3 Preview and Schedule:
We head out on the road for our first road game. The (1-1) San Diego Chargers are starting a rookie QB. He has a lot of help though, especially from HB George Taliaferro (OVR 80). Over the past 3 years, we have played the Chargers twice, losing both. Taliaferro was the main reason for the loses, so we have to contain him. On defense, they are anchored by two time Pro Bowler DT Art Donovan (OVR 77). We are going to have to focus on runs to the outside, because him and Pro Bowl DT Dave Hanner (OVR 71) pretty much shut down the run between the tackles. The Chargers have a very weak secondary, so QB Y.A. Tittle should be able to make some plays downfield. Prediction: Jaguars 23 Chargers 17 |

Well this was unexpected. We may have a really good team this year. The story of this game was our passing game and our pass rush. Rookie DE William Davis exploded this game. And our Defensive line raised hell in the Chargers backfield all game. QB Y.A. Tittle was amazing and could do very little wrong. He shredded the Charger secondary. Good win. EDIT - QB Y.A. This week, we travel to face the (2-1) Cincinnati Bengals. The Benglas are led by their improving QB Jason Pinto. He he has performed well this year (94.8 QB rating) and with HB Frank Gifford, they have balance. Their main strength is their defense, led by this year's number 1 draft pick, LB Joe Schmidt. He is a beast (OVR 94) and raises havoc during passing downs (3 sacks). We will need to scheme to put extra bodies on him at all times. We want to control the line of scrimmage as well. Wow! Could it be that I finally have a juggernaut team on my hands? We went into Cicinnati, against the best defense in the league and smoked them. We had the ball for almost 40 minutes. That is amazing. QB Y.A. Tittle played the best game of his career. And our defense got after the Bengals QB and caused 5 turnovers. We had a tad too many penalties and we gave up too many rushing yards this game, but there are very little complaints. This season is starting to look bright. We are back home where the (2-2) New York Jets come to face us. The Jets have had an up and down year, especially on offense. The strength of their team is thier offensive line (averaging OVR 66), but fortunately for us, they do not have a dynamic HB to take advantage of that strength. Their starting QB Darren Billiot (OVR 62, former number 7 pick in the 1951 draft) is middling and has not played consistently throughout his career (27TD/27INT). I don't see us having much trouble with this team. Prediction: Jaguars 28 Jets 17 |

Doomsday! Just when things were going well, QB Y.A. Tittle gets undercut at the knees by a blitzing LB. He goes down in a heap. He walks off of the field under his own power, but with a bad limp. Though we won the game, QB Y.A. Tittle tore his PCL in his left knee and will be gone 6-8 weeks. He is having surgery tomorrow. This is a hugely terrible blow. We will have to change our spread offense totally, because as you can see, QB Walter Weber is not skilled enough to run the spread. We will lean heavily on HB Kevin Temple and our defense. This blows. |

Well we travel to meet our division rival, the (4-1) Indianapolis Colts. The Colts feature the top ranked offense in the NFL behind HB Ben Lawless. Lawless is having a sensational year. Colts QB Bob Celeri has been hurt the last 2 games, but is ready to go now and will be tough to deal with. And Pro Bowl WR King Carr (OVR 100) is a tough cover and will required a lot of attention. On defense, they lack impact players and are vulnerable in the passing game. We won't be passing very much. We will play ground and pound with our running backs and see if we can stop them defensively. Prediction: Jaguars 17 Colts 31 |

Again, this is unbelievable. We go into their house and just trounce them. Our defense played wonderfully and our offense was efficient and played well. I like how QB Walter Weber played. We travel down to Houston to take on the (1-5) Houston Texans. They have struggled mightily this season on both sides of the ball. Their only weapon on offense is HB Billy Grimes (OVR 63). The last 3 years, he played for the Green Bay Packers as a backup and signed with the Texans for a starting position. He has had some success. On defense, Houston has a hodgepodge of young guys and castoffs, so there is no cohesive identity. We will again try to run the ball as much as possible and limit the downfield chances of QB Walter Weber. Prediction: Jaguars 34 Houston 10 |

Another win, but some warning signs. I do not like that we jumped out to a big lead, but allowed them to get back into the game. Secondly, we are playing very undisciplined football right now.Our defense accounted for 80 of those penalty yards and kept the Texans in the game. We will have to clean this up to stay as the only undefeated team in the NFL. HB Kevin Temple Has been dominant the last two weeks. And I love our defense consistently scoring TD's off of turnovers. He has played wonderfully in his 3 starts (89.5 QB rating) and he is a big reason why we remain undefeated. Good work by our defense making the Colts one-dimensional. This game would be defined as a trap game. We may be looking past this game at our game with the (6-1-1) New York Giants next week. We travel to Bid D to take on the (3-5) Dallas Cowboys. The Cowboys' strength is on the offensive side of the ball. Rookie HB Silas Borders (OVR 69) and their stud WR Thomas Walter (OVR 100) are the lynchpins of the offense. This team is really being held back by QB Shane Duran (OVR 37) and a very poor defense. They have a couple of impact players on defense like LaVern Torgeson (OVR 89), but are lacking at most positions. This game could be a shootout. I have a bad feeling about this game. Flowers did ok, but he is in no position to lead this team. I need my starter back ASAP. Our secondary could not stop the Cowboys on third down and our defense was eventually grounded down by the Cowboys running game. The good news is we finally get QB Y.A. Tittle back after a 4 game hiatus. The bad news is we have to travel to New York to face a very strong (7-1-1) New York Giants. The Giants are very balanced. Every thing plays off of their strong running game with Pro Bowler HB Elmer Angsman (OVR 92). He will be toguh to deal with. The Giants are really strong on defense. They have impact players throughout their defense. Their best player on defense is two-time Pro Bowler DT Arnie Weinmeister (OVR 100). One of their starting CB's is CB Tom Landry (OVR 60). This is going to be a tough game to win. Prediction: Jaguars 17 Giants 28 |

We limp back home to face the (5-4) Washington Redskins. The Redskins are a pretty well balanced team that feature a strong offensive line (Avg OVR 74) and a nice running game. Their QB throws more INT's than TD's (6TD/10INT), so he can be taken advantage of. On defense, they are balanced and are anchored on the defensive line by DT Bill Bishop (OVR 72) and in the back end by LB Chuck Drazenovich (OVR 79). This will not be an easy game especially if QB Y.A. Tittle does not play. Prediction: Jaguars 17 Redskins 16 |
