I vastly prefer it over 7 for my laptop, just seems to handle mobility and power consumption better.

On a desktop I still prefer 7, but 10s plenty good enough not to cling to an aging OS.

This has been my impression too. I have to upgrade for work, and I put it off to delay dealing with any potential compatibility issues, but I've now upgraded on 3 of the 4 machines that I use on a semi-regular basis and have had no issues. I'll do my desktop that I use for both work and gaming tomorrow.

What the hell did they do with these recent updates? It takes forever for my laptop to boot since they were installed.

Use the above link if you are having issues with the cpu constantly using 100% of your hard disk in Windows 10. I was having problems with it for a long time, and since applying this fix the computer is running like new again. I was having issues with lag when trying to open programs, issues booting up slowly, etc.. And all of it seems to have been due to this little registry issue. After looking for a fix for months I finally seem to have ended the issue. I'm stoked for the moment.

If my computer starts going slow again I'll update this, but for now this has done wonders for the responsiveness of my laptop.

Thanks for sharing the fix. Unfortunately it didn't work for me however. I did some more digging and I learned that disabling Windows Search and/or Super Fetch can help. For me it seemed to be Super Fetch. Once I disabled that my usage dropped to 1%.

Edit: Spoke too soon. Even though I have those two processes disable I am still getting the high disk usage.

I did the superfetch thing too, worked for a few minutes, then went right back.. This fix seemed to really get the job done though, haven't experienced any lag really at all since doing it. Disk usage still spikes occasionally, but doesnt get stuck at 99-100% like it did before.

W10 Anniversary update... if you are getting a black screen with a swirling circle of dots on the screen.. you probably have a wireless mouse/keyboard dongle plugged into your computer, remove the USB dongle and the update should resume and finish. Once completed and it boots into Windows, you can plug the USB dongle back into the computer. Definitely an issue with Logitech wireless mouse/keyboard

Anyone having an issue with the search feature since the last update? I type in a search and get nothing but a few scrolling dots at the top of what would be the results.

I installed Windows 10 for the free update when it came out about a year ago. Now my main computer is having a few issues that are kind of annoying. Network adapter randomly closes being the main one. Unfortunately, whenever I try to factory reset this computer it doesnt allow it. I cant seem to get around this factory reset issue so I assume it is because of the windows 10 upgrade.

Again, whatever the latest update had my computer down for 90 minutes this morning. I probably should have realized and rebooted before I left the office.

Microsoft sure doesn't want business clients.

Had Windows 7 for years and can't even think of the last time I had a blue screen or an issue. Averaging at least once every couple of days on 10 with the exact same setup. Thoroughly unimpressed so far.

Just had 51 blue/black/frozen screens in 32 days with the Lenovo I'm returning next week. So far the new Dell seems much more solidly set up. The biggest thing for me was getting all signs of McAfee removed asap and moving back to a single drive as the separate SSD/HDD setup seems to really not work well with the Anniversary or Creator's updates on Windows 10.

Sure, but the only thing I've done on this computer is upgrade from 7 to 10. A newer OS shouldn't just introduce problems on a setup that worked fine for years, surely

It shouldn't, but it does. Each update to Windows 10 has been a horror show for many common configurations. In theory Windows 10 is the first step to the future of OS. In reality it's the perfect Microsoft product, full of potential but living in reality.

Win10 update warning

I know a lot of people are fans of Windows 10. Personally, I think it's a piece of crap. Be that as it may, I am posting a link to the askwoody site. I think that every Win10 user needs to read the posts regarding the updates, especially to v1809. askwoody.com

Synopsis via his article at ComputerWorld:

Microsoft yanks buggy Win10 1809 upgrade, leaving zapped files in its wake

That...doesn't sound too good!

Microsoft, in their misguided attempt to replicate Apple (god, why??), is really shooting themselves in the foot with their OS releases and licensing. If you're not privvy - they are pushing hard for enterprises to adopt the subscription model, wherein the OS has a major update every 6 months, and those versions are only supported for 18.

It's a freaking nightmare for sysads. They do have a long-term version release supposedly every 3ish years, but they are doing everything they can to get businesses away from it.

Between that and their amazing lack of QA for the last 8-12 months - horror show.
