If Michigan somehow pulls this loss out of the jaws of victory, have to ding Hoke for his incredibly passive play design. The semi-intentional delay of game, wimping out on wanting a field goal that would have put it out of reach.

The guy wins at home, but he's a completely different coach on the road. Overall, I'm pleased with what he's brought to Michigan, but I think this game is on him.

This game needs to end with a TO by one of the QBs.

He has been kicking them low today. I'm worried about this. It wasn't the time to play scared on offense.

Surely, there's nothing that seemed obvious to me, on television, that should have eluded Hoke entirely. What the hell is wrong with him on the road? Everything about him today is passive.

2nd half against OSU last year as well. He drinks too heavily from the Bo Kool-Aid.

I don't think he gets forward progress here - it will never show conclusive. Either way, the next play can't be a handoff. The really good Big Ten defenses can stuff this dancing Toussaint play with only seven in the box.

And that's why you play to win, not to not-lose. Again, it's on Hoke. The block got in Gibson's head.

Michigan is answering the age old question of, "Just how many game winning field goals can one player miss in a game?" here tonight.

And the one that should have ended it was the one that was never taken because Hoke thought an intentional delay-of-game followed by a pooch punt that wasn't even pooched was an appropriate strategy.

I think it was a good call. The team going second (as long as their kicker is solid) has an advantage. Fourth-and-a-foot is high percentage.

I hate seeing it end on a flag, but it doesn't look like a terribly controversial PI call.

The bottom line is that one coach wanted to win, and the other coach wanted not to lose.

Yeah, don't get me started on why it's appropriate to punish a bunch of kids, none of whom did anything wrong in the slightest, for the actions of a coaching staff that's long gone.

If that happens there is a pretty good shot at OSU in title game and another shot for Wisconsin to back door into Rose Bowl again.

*sigh* May as well also give you props for finally beating State for the first time ever, as well. (I'll still cherish the memories of the two-pointer to Holt in the Carrier Dome in 1997 and the annihilation we laid on you in 1998 when you came to Raleigh, though... )

Even though it's only been half a season, I'm starting to question whether Doeren was a good hire. I understand he's dealing with the after effects of the horrid recruiting job O'Brien did his last few years here, but he's been trying to force O'Brien's square pegs into his round holes on offense and it's just not working. I know he wants to get players used to playing in this new system, but Pete Thomas just flat sucks as a spread option quarterback and at some point, he needed to adjust to Thomas's limitations and let him be a dropback passer at least some of the time (though with the horrid O-line in front of him, it may not make much difference).

It's likely Brandon Mitchell will be back in two weeks after the bye, but unfortunately, it's at Florida State. After that, who knows, but with losses to the two worst non-State teams in the division already, it's looking pretty shaky for a bowl game right now.

Really depends on how the rest of the conference schedule pans out. I know MSU is hated by bowl makers, but if MSU has a good enough season, they might be the pick over the Wisconsin since a change of pace might do the Rose Bowl good. I don't think it will be hard to "live up" to the Badgers stellar loss record as of late. State has three tougher games in a row and two on the road but all three seem winnable. If MSU goes into the title game with a loss, it will be very difficult to not pick them for the Rose.

Meanwhile Shireffs is experienced in a version of the spread option (won a HS state title last year, throwing regularly for about 200/game) & but having moved him to both LB and FB as late as August, apparently the powers that be haven't done much in terms of giving him much in the terms of QB work.

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck. This team seduced me into thinking they were title contenders, even though preseason I said three losses. Getting your hopes up sure can be rough.

Evidently a hell of a game at Sam Boyd tonight, capped by a 44 yard winning field goal with five seconds left.... by UNLV. We escape with the 39-37 win over still-winless Hawaii and have now won four in a row. Two more to get bowl eligible for the first time since 2003, and should we make it to a bowl, it'd be the first time since 2000.

This one worried me. I smelled classic letdown, and sure enough, it almost happened where we blew a 36-17 early fourth quarter lead, but it didn't. The streak will end against Fresno State next week, but still, this is the best the football Rebels have played in years.

Pretty damn sweet.

I know ESPN is a favorite whipping boy around here, but this is what I just sent to SI:

Quote:
On the Top 25 scoreboard page, the Oklahoma vs. Texas game is listed twice. Once with a score and once without. On the same page, VT is listed as 5-0 even though they are 6-1. Michigan is listed as 5-1 so it seems like the records should be current even including the game's end result. On VT's homepage, they are listed as 6-0 at the top. Their schedule page gives no score for their game against Alabama. They are listed as being 6-1 within their conference. If I click on the link to the ACC standings page, I get the conference standings from 2009 after 8 games have been played with no way to change it to 2013. I looked at Alabama's page and they are listed 5-0 at the top despite being 6-0, but the SEC conference standing link at least goes to the 2013 version. Within the conference standings, the label for overall away games is listed as "All" instead of "Away."

So yes, at various spots one could come up with four different records for VT.

At least the three in a row were all by less than a TD(yay I guess ).

VERY little chance a 2 loss MSU (and more likely they'll have 3 losses by the end of the year) gets a BCS over Wisconsin. Wisconsins saving grace if they do win out voters wills start considering the ASU loss as nothing.

WI will have top 5 offense and defense by years end..with help of the great big ten of course.. lol

Case in point for Badgers argument.. ahead of all one loss teams in B1G in media poll.

The coaches poll was always more friendly to WI too.

You'll get used to it in time.
A win over an SEC team counts 3x.

lol...

Which sets an interesting precedent for next week. Clemson v FSU.
Both top 10 teams if one loses by 15 will they both stay top 10?

Mizzou looked better than I expected yesterday from what I got to watch, would have loved to see them match up against Gurley and Marshall though

I'm not willing to label a slate of Michigan, Nebraska, and Northwestern as two likely losses. All of those teams are flawed.

If you want to boost up Wisconsin due to the piss poor officiating of the ASU game, State fans will point out the bad referring during the ND game that could have them being undefeated at this point. If you think @Ill will be a pick 'em, you need to check your meds.

Well it might be about 3 points at best then..

And the end of the Wisconsin game has been deemed one of hte top 5 worse calls in college football history, so, uhh, yeah..

And the computer polls will like Wisconsin far more than MSU. I think a 2 loss Wisconsin team gets the nod before a 1-loss MSU team.

Besides, I don't think the Rose Bowl will take Wisconsin if OSU gets in the National Championship Game for the reasons you already stated. So the Badgers will get lined up elsewhere in the BCS (yes I keep stating the Badgers will get in before mSU)
