I need a ruling: can Auburn use this player?

COLLEGE:
• Began career at Auburn (1996-99) before transferring to Georgia Southern for senior season.
• Was member of Eagles’ NCAA Division I-AA National Championship team, connecting on seven of 13 field goal attempts during season and scoring 39 total points.
• At Auburn, was semi-finalist for Lou Groza Award in 1998 after making 12 of 16 field goal attempts, including two successful 49-yard tries, and making all 18 PATs for team-high 54 points.
• Received degree from Auburn in marketing

A good case, but I would say no--to allow this, you would have to make all the other transfers eligible to play for their former school.

Degrees earned after playing eligibility runs out shouldn't count. This precludes the possibility that a star player who played at one school will take classes at another school closer to his professional team.

Unless Kasay has a huge game today the Buckeyes are going to win 2 games. Impressive considering we don't have a QB or RB to score points.

The Domers with another win, even with my skill guys getting next to nothing. Julius Jones and David Givens get a paltry 6.5 with Arnaz Battle hurt for last night's game.

But having a kicker just rocks as John Carney gets 13 and Bryant Young and Bertrant Berry get 10 and 7.5 on defense

I'm still annoyed that Miami-FL should be 4-0, if only I had bothered to bench bye-week players.

Well, Miami-FL is now setting records and firing on all cylinders after their ridiculous 100.5-40 spanking of Tennessee.

Interesting week. The two frontrunners stay at the head of the pack with ease.

Shake outs among the 4-2 teams looking for a play-off berth:

Tennessee needs to avoid a big game from Vick and Hall to beat Virginia Tech.

Penn State needs defensive points from Bryan Scott to keep pace.

Ohio State needs Nugent and Clayton to come through to beat Florida.

Unless, Dunn or Coles completely break out, Washington will go to 5-2.

The Domers will fall to 4-2-1.

Georgia Tech, which has probably already exceeded all realistic expectations for the season, will fall to 4-3 unless Keith Brooking scores multiple defensive touchdowns.

With Battle and Jones out, the Domers weren't going to mount much of a challenge unless the defense and Carney really came through.

would someone mind posting some updated standings? And I'd like to be involved next year, even if it means going 0-16.

The only fractional points are 0.5 solo tackles. We (Domers) tied Oregon 11.0 to 11.0 a couple of weeks ago. He got 1.5 points from solo tackles for Harrington, Morris, and Droughns

Some interesting happenings in this week's games. Most notably, Syracuse needs a slightly below average game from McNabb to stay undefeated.

Florida could be the first team shut out, as well.

I'm not sure how well this will show up...

Scott Fujita better have 5 sacks tonight to save Cal. We'd have a chance if Kyle Boller didn't manage to contribute NEGATIVE 3.5 points.

Notre Dame has suffered three straight losses. Injuries to Julius Jones, Jerome Bettis, Tony Fisher, and Arnaz Battle have taken their toll. Betrand Berry, #2 on the team in defense, is now on the IR and out for the rest of the season, too. The loss to top ranked Syracuse was expected but losing to bad Florida and Texas teams was just inexcusable. There's a big challenge this week for the 2 RB, no QB offense as Peyton Manning comes calling. Hopefully leading scorer John Carney, K, can lead us to victory

And now Syracuse drops from 10-0 powerhouse right into free-fall. Losing a solid defensive player and our second wideout was tough enough... playing without a QB puts us into the pushover column from here on out, I suspect.

Georgia Tech has a total of 120 points all season but 4 wins!

VA Tech needs to roll them this week to really get into the title hunt.

I realize that 10 wins will be enough to keep us in a top tier, but assuming this league has playoffs (I just accepted the default settings, as I recall) then we will be hard pressed to beat decent teams head to head down the stretch. We coudl be the #1 seed and basically dead in the water.

So it goes. Still an interesting concept, I think.

Oh snap. Top 6 get into the playoffs week 14.

That makes this a must win for VA Tech. Loss here and we'll need a miracle to get in with so many teams bunched around 7-4, 6-5.

It is a great concept, and I would have never guessed that Syracuse would run away with it as much as they have (but I have a feeling it wasn't a surprise to you). Now maybe the rest of us have a shot.

It may be a decent time to start reviewing ideas for how we could make the league more competitive or viable for all teams.

I know we threw out a couple of ideas earlier regarding handicapping certain teams based through an auction style draft or simply based on expected performance.

Another idea might be to have a three or so round draft, so teams who lack a QB or RB could select another college in rounds two or three to fill the roster.

Well, I first tossed around this idea with friends some time ago (5-10 years ago) back when Ohio State probably would have fielded a pretty fierce, though QB-less, squad. When I launched it here, I figured McNabb and Harrison would make Syracuse respectable, but I really didn't think that any team without a viable RB would make any real progress. (At the time, I didn't even consider how important having a kicker would be, which it clearly is)

So, no -- I really figured (without giving it serious thought) that Syracuse would be well behind the Tenn and Miami and Fla St of the world... but probably a team that would have a shot to win in any week with a good showing from a key guy.

Probably don't need 3 rounds as it would be tough to make fair. But a 2-round snake draft with only ~14 teams makes sense.

I don't like the idea of having "other colleges" players on the team. I think the system that is used on yahoo is perfect for this type of fantasy team because just about anyone can score some points if they play. I would say let's make it so there is no position caps, just a number of players on offense, defense, and 1 kicker. I think that would make it more competitive.

I agree with GD. I don't want players from other schools on my roster, just make it so you can play whoever you want to fill the voids...

Where would this lead us?

Teams like, say, Miami would certainly gain -- they'd be able to play multiple tight ends, multiple wide receivers, and multiple running backs, I guess. (Without even thinking much about the actual roster) Wouldn't this just increase the disparity between the "well stocked" teams and those who only have a handful of players -- making this league even less interesting (in some respects, at least)? And what of a school that has multiple quarterbacks -- like USC might within a year or two. Wouldn't that be a pretty steep advantage? Multiple kickers?

Hard for me to see how that makes the game more interesting -- it just would tend to spread out the haves and have nots even more than they already are, right?

Yeah, I'm with QS on this one. No position caps- basically having 10 "util" players or whatever would just make it so that the big schools would romp.
