Sorry, got dragged away at work. That was an awfully long 10 minutes
7.10 QB Trent Edwards 8.01 TE John Carlson Not exactly huge points of need but great value and there are still a lot of WRs out there. Edwards and Orton was another coin flip for me. SI

Yahoo and thread updated thru 8.3.
My posting schedule is going to get a bit squirrelly thru the end of the weekend. I have to go in to work tonight from 9 until who knows, probably around 5 or 6am then sleep until around noonish. Then work on Saturday from 9am until not sure and will probably catch up one some missed sleep at that point. (And then I'm on call next week but that shouldn't be too bad until next weekend) SI

I like that pick - I was actually hoping he might slide another around. He's still the only game in town there and it's hard to imagine he's just done after 1,200 carries.

Oh, hey- here were some thoughts I had mentioned and scribbled down prior to my picks at 5/6 (I went with KSmith and Chad Johnson). Most of the guys are off the board by now and those that aren't, I probably overvalued as they haven't been picked over two and a half rounds later.
I'll be curious to see how some of these thoughts play out At my picks, it was between Kevin Smith - picked Pierre Thomas - nagging fear of Reggie Bush taking his job for some reason Reggie Bush - nagging fear of Pierre Thomas keeping his job Thomas Jones - just never been all that impressed- it seems like he's always on the verge of losing his job Joseph Addai - Injuries and Donald Brown waiting in the wings Marshawn Lynch - Nice way to lose 3 games, dufus For WR, it was even harder Chad Ochocinco - did he just get old all of a sudden or did missing Palmer just kill his stats; easily the highest ceiling TJ Houshm-- yeah, him- would have been my second pick, new situation but could be very good one Brandon Marshall - malcontented, probably not in good shape because of that Vincent Jackson - may have been a mistake; still not quite buying into him yet Lee Evans - not sure what TO's going to do to his numbers Roy Williams - has only had one really nice year and just didn't fit last year in Dallas SI

I was hoping to snag both Pierre Thomas and Reggie Bush. That didn't work out.
The last thing I expected to do was take 2 TEs in the 1st 8 picks. But I really like Zach Miller and Owen Daniels, and they were there for the taking. So now I (hopefully) won't have to deal with the week-to-week TE dregs, hoping for a random TD or a couple of catches like I usually do in fantasy football. Very fun draft. It's always a crazy league because you have to be strong across all positions. There's no mad scramble for RBs and pray for no injuries or the usual nonsense.
I was describing this to one of the guys in my office who plays fantasy football and wasn't enthused because it was a bit outside of the norm so he threw out "So how do you win? Have the least guys who don't get hurt?", clearly not understanding. I responded with "You have to have the best overall team, not just the silly running back roulette you play with." At the end of the day- when the top 100 players are pretty evenly split between QB, RB, and WR, it's a lot of picking the best available on the board and making sure they fit into your team. SI

Definitely a very fun and interesting draft. I don't really like the standard 1 Qb, 2 RB, etc... leagues, so am very happy to be in this one. So far I have stuck to my strategy pretty well, though had to make a couple adjustments.
As a comparison to Sterlingice, my WR list from back them looked like this. Chad Ochocinco - I think he will be good, but I don't see him having the same upside as Sterlingice does. TJ Housh-- Very solid pick, but still a new team and not the youngest WR Brandon Marshall - Not someone I really want in general, plus with this drama and having a new QB, is a risky choice. Vincent Jackson - Decent Lee Evans - Question of TO taking some of his numbers. Roy Williams - Actually put up some pretty darn impressive PPG numbers considering the ineptude of the quarterbacks and offenses he was in. Obviously the fact he has missed a few games in 3 out of 4 season is a negative, and hot got hurt today and is done for the preseason for sure. Also I think getting dropped into Dallas when he did took some adjusting. I think he will fit in a lot better this year. And with the potential injury issue aside, I think he was primed for a big year being the #1 receiver in by far the most prolific offense he has been. I think he has (if he is healthy) a shot at top 10 WR numbers. Overall receivers usually hit their peak around years 4 and 5 or so. I wanted receivers I felt were on the upswing and not ones that were trying to hold on as they got into their 30's. Obviously my drafting of WR has followed that. Johnson is entering his 7th year and is 28, Jennings entering 4th season and is 25. Williams entering 6th year and is 27 and Holmes entering his 4th season at 25. Just read Williams x-rays are negative, so he is done for preseason, but maybe he will be ok for week 1 or 2.

I have similar strategies, but if my Gut instinct tells me someone is going to have a bounce back year, or decline etc. I follow it more than I probably should, but it usually does me pretty well. I'm very high on OchoCinco this year, was hoping to get him.

I'm pretty high on Chad OC as well, but as a Bengals fan I am trying to stay away from their players, just assuming that I am personally overvaluing them all. I think Palmer is due for a great year as well.
V. Jackson I thought was a bargain at the end of round 6. Braylon Edwards scared me because of his many ongoing issues. I witnessed him drop 2 more easily catchable balls in their preseason opener, so that doesn't inspire confidence. Was kind of hoping that Anthony Gonzalez and Kyle Orton would fall to me, but that didn't happen. And there are some guys I just wasn't going to pick: Terrell Owens, Roy Williams, Clinton Portis, LT, Larry Johnson. For a variety of reasons. It's been a lot of fun following and playing along so far, hopefully the league will be equally fun. Now if someone would make a pick, I'm dying to get my 8th and 9th rounders in here.

I'm actually expecting him to have similar numbers, as he seems to do well in the #2 receiver role. |

I think Palmer will have a really nice year- top 10ish if not top 5ish, if he can stay healthy. He is that good and he has decent weapons around him and the running game is absolute crap. But he's already gimping around in the preseason so that has me a bit worried. SI

I hope you're right (just not right enough to beat my team)- I always kindof liked him and he just seemed to fall off the earth last year. However, St Louis isn't an enviable situation for anyone. He and Avery make an interesting dichotomous pair as they're valued about the same in mock drafts and ADPs which means there's a fair sized camp that thinks St Louis was the problem and one that thinks Holt was getting old. 9.5 RB Knowshon Moreno, DEN
Has the sprained MCL and is reported that he won't be 100% for week 1, but since he is my 3rd RB, I'm hoping he'll pay dividends as the season progresses. I don't like drafting a bronco, but Moreno is the best of the rookie backs and I think he has a good chance to perform like a top 10 RB as we get into the season. Also, Williams is just day to day, so some good news there. Oh and I was looking at Ray Rice too, I think that was a great pick. Last edited by Danny : 08-28-2009 at 12:04 PM. |

Yeah, his injury is definitely troubling as a fan. It looked like a very minor sprained ankle at the time, but he's going to have missed almost the entire preseason by the end of it. After the shoulder and the knee problems, it's more than a little concerning.

I've got some concern as well, now that I've drafted him, but I have to think they're also being extremely cautious given his injury history. No need to rush him back into the mix before the regular season begins.

Unfortunately for flere, the top pick on his list was the top pick on my list (and now I have him both in this and the FOFC Keeper League)
9.10 WR Bernard Berrian, MIN 10.1 WR Kevin Walter, HOU I had 3 WRs, an RB, and a TE out there but I thought the WRs were the most reliable of the bunch this time around. Flere didn't have my other WR on his list, but he did have this one as his second choice (after Berrian) 10.2 WR Devin Hester - CHI SI
