Yup, some you're stuck with, bloatware is alive and kicking on smartphones.

Got it. Is there any programs that allow me to hide them?

You can always root the phone (I have not, but a lot have).

Yep - the only way to get rid of it is to root the phone.

I'm toying with rooting my EVO actually (now that I've had it for 9 months).

Root, and load in a custom ROM. Usually the devs remove all the bloatware before releasing their awesome ROMs.

Not for the faint of heart however. Rooting requires a bit of knowledge of what you're doing. I thought I had lost (bricked) my phone a couple of times.

I dont feel confident in doing that and dont you run the danger of voidng a warranty? I think I'd rather find a way to hide the apps than remove them. I think them showing up bothers me than actually having them on my phone. Either way, thanks for the advice

Not so much. If you search, you should be able to find a stock ROM that will bring your phone back to its original factory state.

Sporcle is Amazon free app today. OK but looks like its limited content. Only 34 sports quizzes currently.

Droid 3 for me, charging as I write. My first smart phone, so I'm reading this thread with interest.

As to bloatware, I have read while you can't uninstall the stuff, you can move the icons to a folder that you don't have to display.

Off to work where I'm studying the data usage of the Fire Dept Blackberries and EVDOs.

Peggle was the free app a few weeks ago- that is by far my favorite game. I've picked up some of the other free apps since then but Peggle has held my interest more than anything.

Love the free app of the day on Amazon, I probably get 2 free apps a week, some pretty cool ones.

Do you live where 4G is available? I don't; and I don't believe Verizon saying it will be here in Va by winter.

$100 for two Droid 3s on a two year contract that will expire around the time Verizon gets 4G right was too good to pass up.

GameLoft is having a Labor Day weekend giveaway. You can get Nova HD for free for the next 1:45. They'll announce other deals via Twitter that will be available for 2 hours each.

Personally, I'm hoping for Uno and Let's Golf.

Are there any apps where you can actually do like...stock research? None of the etrade/fidelity/whatever apps will let you do like...straight up research without having tickers or company names.

I've been getting a number of calls lately on my cell phone from a robobot 406-530-5038. My Google-fu pulls up a ton of complaints against this company, but mixed information on exactly who/where they are located. They appear to ignore Do Not Call lists, so I'm looking into Android Apps to block the call.

Two popular ones seem to be "Mr. Number" and "Call Control". Do any of you have experience with either of these? Or an entirely different, but effective, app instead? I'd prefer the app to stop the call completely (or at least hide it from me) instead of routing to my voicemail.

Thanks!

That seems to be the common issue. It will probably be the next generation chips that can help that.

I'm planning on posting my iPhone on eBay this week. I have that (16gb), an Otterbox Defender case, a Morphie case ($90, it has a built in battery), and the accessories that came with the phone. If I can get >$400 then I will sell it for the Bionic. Outside of the battery, I am really liking what I see about the Bionic.

By the way, I am reading that on the verizon website the $50 extra battery becomes $25 when added to the cart. I plan on purchasing that, and the dock that charges both the phone and the extra battery.

Thanks!

I have Call Control and it's worked well for me. It allows you to either send the call to Voicemail or pick up and hang up (without you seeing it on the user end). I have the latter option selected with no problems so far...

Indeedz. Blame it on the LTE. Had to get the extended battery for my Thunderbolt to get it through the day.

Though I plan on rooting it soon, and I've heard battery life can jump afterwards.

I've been amazed with the phone.
This is the first phone where Internet seems native like a laptop not like a close interpretation....
Speed is truly impressive. I'd wager on 4g I am at least 20% faster than I am on dsl at home....but smoking a battery in 5 hours just ain't cutting it.

I've looked at the extra batt, and at the extended bat can't decide which way to go.

Sounds like it defeats the purpose of the phone, but for battery until you get an extra, can you get a toggle to turn 4g off when you don't need it? You dont need the 4g when its in your phone at work just to get your emails and what not.

If it comes to that I'll return it for the d3 if I'm not going to have the 4g speed ill take a physical keyboard.

I meant to say when its in your pocket at work, but I think you got hte point. I could see it being annoying having to toggle 4g when you need it for some people. I dont use my phone at work so for that 8 hours its a waste to have it on 4g.

I use splashtop remote via my galaxy tab and love it, not sure if it's available for phone, but if it is I highly recommend it!

I think I paid $3-$6 for it.

I got a Galaxy S II over the weekend. After my iO5 fiasco and just not "getting" the whole Apple thing, I decided against an iPhone. Glad I made this decision. Already this phone is far more intuitive than working with my iPod, and I can easily transfer MP3s back and forth like a USB drive, which is what I was trying to do with my iPod but couldn't.
