UCLA player hit a game-tying homer in the 7th inning and missed home plate in her excitement to greet her teammates. The UCLA catcher told her to go back and touch home plate and now they are trying to interpret what the rule actually says

Edit: Howard Webb wants a prestigious team like UCLA softball to get the benefit of the doubt

I don't see how it would be different than being touched by the third base coach.

If it's not reviewable, why did they take 15 minutes to review it?

Down goes Vandy after a what would have been a game tying double hopped over the fence to hold the runner that had been on first to 3rd. Next batter flew out to end it.

Yowza Vandy goes down to Wright State-they had only one hit until the 9th then they almost came back all the way-walked the bases full, got some runs in then lost finally 5-4. Crazy

They've easily played the best baseball in this region and they've done everything they can to go home.

Their starters held Vandy to, what, two hits in 15 innings pitched.

In the same year that the first overall softball #1 seed doesn't make it out of their own regional, it happens in college baseball as well.

The UCLA/Tennessee elimination game at the WCWS is crazy. It's in extras right now, but only because UCLA hit a 2 out 2 run HR in the 7th - but the batter didn't touch home plate, the ump didn't see it, and she was assisted back to home plate to touch it by a teammate, all of which they ruled was not reviewable under the rules. So the HR stood.

Just an absolute butcher job by the home plate ump. You literally have one job on a HR. And he didn't do it.

They were reviewing the rule book, not the play.

Funny part is Tennessee's coach is an attorney.

My bad, someone earlier on a broadcast said first ever.

They were the top seed, but I would have had LSU, Tennessee, and UNC as the top 3 teams. This Vandy team wasn't anywhere near as good as some of their recent teams.

Crazy sport sometimes-Coastal scored 18 runs against East Carolina in Game 2. But only needed 1 today to win 1-0 and move on to the Super Regional against Auburn unless NC State comes back from 10 runs down

Vols haven't won a weekend series in a month, I was surprised they even hosted.

My son's schoolmate Sam White is playing as a Junior for West Virginia and had a hand in defeating the #1 seed Clemson today. His stats for the season

AVG: .358
Games: 48 Runs: 41 RBI: 43
OBP: .421 SLG: .514
BB: 21 K: 20

I'm not sure if he's a prospect though. He plays DH and only had 4 HR this season. I'm not sure if there's a market for a high contact / low power DH.

Universally one of the most liked athletes at WVU. By all accounts just a nice kid. He plays some 2nd base too, but was struggling there defensively before he got hurt his shoulder earlier this year and has primarily DH'd since.

That's one thing that I can't see on their web page. Good to know! I'm guessing that since he did DH most of the season, that he'll probably come back for a senior year before going for the draft.

He was always the best at whatever sport he played, played as a AAA goalie during the winter, and on Team Ontario as a baseball player during the summer. His dad did a great job at keeping him focused, and keeping him humble. It looks like he kept this attitude.

I would guess Sam White will get drafted. He’s versatile in the field and hits lefty. I think he’s literally played everywhere except SS and CF since he’s been here (even caught a few games). He’s slashing like .350/.420/.500 while injured. He’s played a ton of games and gotten better each year. He’s slashing may end up making more in NIL in college in the next few years, but I think he’ll get picked this year unless he puts out vibes that he wants to stay in college. I’d love for him to stay, but I think he’s literally played we’ve been getting more guys drafted the past few years and he’s up there.

I have to give OU credit. To 4-peat and then do what they do time after time is fucking insane. Down to their last strike against the best pitcher in the game and hit a 2 run HR to tie it. It's unbelievable.

So there were a few regionals left to finish today. So far North Carolina, Oregon State, Tenn, and Murray State(who had a 8 or 9 run lead at one point against Ole Miss and almost gave it all back.

Miami and Little Rock are currently winning. Little Rock has a losing record but has a 4 run lead against always tough LSU-rooting for the little guy and fellow Sun Belt team Southern Miss to win these games

No matter what LSU does tonight, it'll still be a pretty thorough bedshitting by the SEC.

Hopefully this was at least the last time Ole Miss has to endure Bianco in the dugout. He's been coasting on his title from the minute he won it and doing nothing but stealing from the athletic department ever since.

Yeah especially if LSU loses to a losing record team. I was expecting a lot of them to make it to Super Regionals.

I would have figured LSU going through, Vandy, and Texas. And probably Georgia. Auburn surprises me a little, Arkansas felt like a pretty good bet.

Ole Miss falling doesn't surprise me nearly as much as Tennessee advancing. They'd spent a month+ looking like they'd never seen a baseball before.

Was there a reason Little Rock was so bad? Like a bunch of injuries or something? Just seeing that they only qualified for their conference tournament on some tiebreaker. And the Ohio Valley is not exactly a good conference. Pretty shocking that they're even competing.

They were basically a .500 team before suddenly losing 13 of their last 14. Then they got hot in the conference tournament, and have stayed hot. Reading some quote from the players about their unlikely tournament appearance, seems like just a mental thing as much as anything.

Miami starts the season 15-16, at one point dead last in the ACC. Then got hot. And then finished the regular season losing 5 out of 6 and got walloped by conference cellar dweller Cal 12-2 in the ACC tournament opener.

Now they're heading to a super regional.

Baseball is a funny game.

Give her a break. She is amazing and they aren't sniffing this game without her.

I saw that coming a mile away. You rarely pitch 3 games in a row against the same team and remain effective. Between accumulated fatigue and good hitters seeing her 8+ times in 3 days - not to mention a not -great offense backing her up - that would have required a minor miracle. They lost the series in game 1 with the IBB debacle.

Fun fact - about 11 or 12 years ago, Caitlin's HS team lost the region final to go to state against their hated rival when our SEC-committed pitcher couldn't throw an IBB and did exactly what Canady did, and the girl laced it for a 2-run single or double that gave them the winning margin.

Within 10 seconds of that happening the other night, I texted Caitlin about the similarity. Not even 30 seconds later, our old HS/travel ball coach texted me almost verbatim what I texted Caitlin. Brutal losses never go away...
