Like how long is the development cycle for a patch?

That's exactly how it sounds...I don't think I've ever seen anyone release a game with that kind of attitude. I've seen some developers say the graphics aren't that great but the gameplay makes up for it or something along those lines...but nothing like what he's saying. |

I don't see why we're making a big deal about David saying the game will have bugs. Every piece of software ever released and will be released has or will have bugs in it. They range from a wide variety of things. He shouldn't be making an excuse for them by reminding us for the 100th time that this isn't his full time job. It's a part of software development, period. It strikes me that he's a self proclaimed uber-developer yet he feels like he has to say this to the masses. I guess he didn't have bugs in his programs in high school.
I care about what the bugs are, not how many or if they even exist. |

So, IF the game is release this afternoon, does anyone have a line of how long it will be until the following activities take place?
- First minor bug - First showstopper - First Run Time Error - First "When is the patch coming out?" question - First patch - When the game will be taken off distribution for "retooling" I'm thinking of parlaying my bet -- I'm guessing no more than a few hours, excluding a patch. Daivd will need time to get the box art back from the artest before the patch comes out. All kidding aside, I wish them the best. I hope it's a success -- as has been said before, in the indie sport sim world, I think good sims are good for everybody. |

Ok...now I understand why they needed to hold off for a while. As you can see from this picture, they now have a first down marker. If you remember from the previous video, this never existed.
Besides that, I am morbidly interested to see how this turns out (and not from the fanboys). I hope to hear an honest review from any of the various gaming sites about this game and I am also curious to see how long it will be before he can issue a patch.

I will be. I get off work today at 6:30 MST. I'll purchase the game and will run it through some tests and post on it between 9 and 10 MST tonight.
Get your questions ready. |

I plan on purchasing. Another football game in this genre and one that introduces 3d graphics to spreadsheet games deserves an honest shot.

ya lets cut them a break its not like kept the same spreadsheet design through 5-7 iterations. Same tired, staid boring look and feel.

i wish them luck. yeah, we've had a lot of fun at their expense, but sincerely speaking i'm keeping my eye on it, especially after a first wave of patches (or two).

Those players look pretty small compared to the field. What am I thinking, its probably just a field customized to the width of 50 yards. (Or well defined little leaguers.)

On the most recent video posted, a TE blocks for his RB who is going to throw a pass, and the TE is not knocked on his ass. Progress, I say.

Good point. At $40, I don't like the idea of trying to balance the game so that it will appear realistic. I don't like the fact there is no financial system. Onside kicks, fake field goals and fake punts are an odd thing to leave out. With all that said, if he can prove that he can put out patches in a reasonable amount of time (2 - 3 weeks) and he place in major enhancements, I will seriously take it in consideration. If he just tells everyone that all of this is coming out in the next version, I am not even going to touch it.

I don't believe there's even any comparison. At least BBM served some purpose (the entertainment factor of using the import function to introduce historic players). This "effort" on the other hand ... well, at least we got a good thread out of it I guess.

Will this more than likely be the last game we ever see Daivd Winters put out?
Of course his next incarnation could be Waivd Dinters.

Not especially, but I see three options: 1) It'll be a great game out of the box (well worth the money) 2) It'll be so horrific out of the box that it'll be funny. (comedy value alone - worth the money) 3) It'll be mixed, with some really good things and some really bad things, and in that case, It'll probably go into my rotation of games just for kicks. It'd be fun to design some plays and screw around with different rules options. (in this case it won't be worth the money, but it'll give me 10-20 hours of play at least, which along with a review of the game will save it from being a total disaster) |

It is now available on the online store at Matrix.
My opinion - too much money for what it offers. |

What's really sad is, if it actually is released, then Bubba will have the last laugh on us.

I love the not so subtle dig at the beta testers. To me, it sounds like he is saying, "If I had more time, I would have caught all of the bugs that the 60 part-time beta-testers missed"
I doubt that he is trying to come off as an arrogant prick, but I have the feeling that this quality just comes out naturally with this guy. Last edited by SplitPersonality1 : 03-03-2006 at 10:34 PM. |

Your gutsiness is admiralbe, Troy. I'll trust you in being able to be objective about the product. That said, it's a wait and see issue for me due to the amateurism going on.

Of that thing I can assure everyone. I'm not just going to rip on the game for comedy purposes. I'm going to post my thoughts. Good, bad, ugly great, whatever the hell they are. I'm also going to try to do it from a perspective that we have here. I've jotted down a list of questions for me to start. (these are mainly the type of questions I use in prepping a review) 1) How are the stats? 2) How is the AI? 3) How many times do I look at a result on the field and scream WTF?!?!?!?! 4) Does the play editor work, do the players do what I told them to do? I'm not going to judge this thing on career mode. I know the game isn't going to meet my career sim needs. Nor am I going to care a great deal about the graphics. (Teleporting players are a problem though, if they are there, I will rip) I think this is going to be a gigantic chunk of human waste. But I'll be more than happy to write that I'm an idiot and that I'm wrong. Either way, after a game gets this many views, someone here has to bite the bullet. We have to see just how good/bad this sucker is. I expect a beer from each and every member who posted in this thread if I ever visit your city. |
