I haven't really played this game for a few years. I seem to remember having to assign assistants to a particular training regimen. Is that still in FM 10? I've assigned all of my players to the various training schedules, but don't see where to tell which coach to oversee each schedule.

Just bought FM. Between this thread and the World Cup, I think I have been converted to at least a passive soccer fan.
One more question I have for you all is how should I handle my youth team? Do guys just get generated every year and added or do I have to go scouting for players? Also is it worthwhile to loan those kids out or what? I am just going to pick an EPL team to start to get used to things if that matters. |

You'll get a new batch of 15-17 year old players every offseason.
I don't consider loaning youngsters out until they are a little older (18+), until then they just train and play in the youth league and/or reserve league. |

Both, you can buy a few ones (just go for really talented ones). It's always best to loan out players since first team football is always better, but you cannot loan out players until they're over 17, so for the most talented ones under 17 the best way to develop them is to make them play a few games with the first team once in a while. |

One other thing I can't remember: If a player is injured, do you have to switch them to a resting training regimen or are they automatically changed based on their injury?

They will automatically come back to training when they are healthy.

Do you mean a practice game vs someone else? Or an intersquad friendly?

Not a soccer (football) fan but as DeTox said, the World Cup has given me some interest. Are there any deals going on for FM?

Either one, prefer intersquad friendly. I'm asking because it says my players are out of shape and need a practice match or something along those lines. Last edited by Balldog : 06-19-2010 at 05:51 PM. |

Isduri this offseason? Select matches and schedule them to play every couple of days. During the season, if they don't play regularly, make them available for reserve games

Do you mean where it says "lacking match fitness" or "severely lacking match fitness" in the player's card/screen? I would also like to know what that means. How is a player lacking match fitness yet at 90+% condition? What exactly does condition mean? Is a match fit player at 80% only playing at 80% of his current ability? Do injury chances increase when players are at a lower condition? Does match fitness effect how quickly a players condition drops throughout a game? etc. Last edited by aran : 06-19-2010 at 06:59 PM. |

A player can be completely fit, as shown in the condition rating, but if he hasn't played a competitive game in months, he's going to be rusty, his timing is going to be off, his reaction speed is a lot slower, etc. That's what "lacking match fitness" means, and it can only be fixed by playing games, most likely with the reserves or the U20 squad.

For anyone playing on Steam, do facepacks, kit packs, etc. install ok? Or does steam do a special install? I've never used steam for anything and am debating the purchase.

I think it is time to retire on a high note. I've been playing the same career since the game came out and it is now 2035. Started at Grimsby and also managed Swansea, Everton, Aston Villa and now Arsenal for the last 3.5 years. Here are my results from this year:
Community Shield - win EPL - win for 3rd year in a row with only 2 losses and record 98 points and 106-20 goals for and against League Cup - win FA Cup - win Champions Cup - win Reserves - 1st U-18s-1st with only 1 loss U-18 Cup - win I'm not sure what else i can accomplish. This team only has 2 starters that older than 28 so I repeat next year is probably likely. Maybe I'll retire and create a new coach and start again in a different league but for now, I'll move my gaming onto something else.

You might be able to activate your CD key on a Steam account. WWSM 2009 is listed here as game you can activate on Steam with a certain format of CD key, I'm not sure if that means that some keys won't work but it's worth trying. |

I'm pretty sure the rule is that if a player is eligible at the start of the competition, he is eligible for the entire competition. So if their 21st birthday was the day after the eligibility date, then they could be 23 by the time the U-21 championship game was played.

I just had a striker come on for his first competitive match with my Wrexham first team... he "lacked" match fitness. It didn't prevent him for scoring a hat-trick against a highly-ranked team in the BSP. |

If you're running other leagues, move to a new one. I had a real fun game in the Dutch league. My team was always solid, but it was never a big club so I acted as a sort of a feeder team to Real Madrid, Man Utd, etc. which meant I was always having to scout out good, young players as replacements.

Yeah move to a new league with the same coach.
I actually had amazing results with my new club (Quimper in the French league, got promoted 3 seasons in a row and competed in the first season in Ligue 1) after winning everything with Bromley. I'm pretty sure my established reputation helped. |

Like some others, the World Cup finally pushed me over the edge.
I bought FM 2010 a few months ago during a Steam sale, but never got the energy to really get things rolling. I finally made it happen over the weekend. It always takes a while to get back up to speed, but I think I am there. I ended up taking Southampton. They have a pretty nice transfer budget and wage cap for a team in that division, though we started the season with -10 points because of some financial violations or something. So, we have that hole to dig out of. As is my want, I fired about 90% of my staff and made a ton of transfers. I think 8 in total. It upset some people, but they will deal. The team needed some upgrades. Also as is my want, I get over zealous and end up signing too many people, some of which really aren't a good fit. I get excited. I can't help it. I am also single handed helping kick the racism out of football, as I brought in at least 4-5 African players. including a 6'8" striker. He was my biggest transfer, but once I found him, I couldn't well resist the temptation. There are some language issues and communication problems, but everyone will adjust. The team still isn't quite where I want them to be personnel-wise, but we're winning more than we are losing for sure. One question. I found this button before, but, for the life of me, I can't seem to re-find it: Where do I find the ability for my scouts/coach to gather a list of players, by position, that are available for loan? (I swear I found it before).

I've brought so many players into my San Marino team - most all on loans. somewhere between 6-8 of my starting 11 in any given game are loan ins in Serie C1.

Doesn't that lead to problems "fitting in"? I seem to have the entire team break down if I bring in too many people. |

Thinking about making the job myself, joining the group of others that the World Cup may be turning. I played this game a few years ago but stopped because of the micromanaging of the scouts. Never cared much for scouting in games but OOTP with a % slider has it about right for me.
I remember having to tell scouts to go to a particular part of the world and he brings back a list. That just seemed very tedious. Has scouting changed? If so, please tell me how. This question will definitely help me make a purchase - one way or the other. |

I know nothing about soccer really but this is truly a great game. I stumbled into some luck with West Ham after a bad start and now we're sitting in 9th in middle February. We had a 14 game unbeaten streak, though probably nine of those games were draws.
I am getting ready to play Manchester United in the EL Cup (I think it's EL, don't have the game up so I forget) Final. We got to the final thanks to literally all kinds of luck. We played Wigan in the semi's, and that ended up being our only game vs EPL team until now. I do have a question though. I got a pretty good young AMC from a transfer but I am not sure how to utilize him best. Any advice? |

Add me to the list of people that know nothing about soccer and who bought the game last night. I'll definitely have to read the dummies guide to FM2010 because I am lost... I know what a goalkeeper is so, just have to figure out what the other 10 spots are.
