OR if you're both wolves, then this move to kill Path by poisoning (if it would kill him) would REALLY be a move to gain trust. Since you have the crew power, you're obviously a more valuable wolf than Path (that is, if you both happen to be wolves).

how does poising Path gain me trust, it only does if he is a wolf.

If I am a wolf then I know Path is a villager. As a wolf then putting that kind of unnecessary scrutiny on myself makes no sense at all. I would just poison him and let you all twist in the wind about it.
