I'm rooting for the Tigers because Detroit really needs something happy.

As far as rooting interests go, there's only one team I want to see win and that's the Tigers. As a Giants fan, the Dodgers are a no go, and the Cardinals are one of three teams with more World Series wins than the Giants. Boston is currently tied with the Giants, so they're no good either.
Go Tigers! |

There surely has to be more than 3 teams with more than one ring and Boston has won two, so I'm not sure how you came to the conclusion tjhat you are tied to them

I can only recall one San Francisco Giants title. I'm not sure how said Giants fan only counted three teams with more than one WS title.

Seeing which one would head to the dugout last... it was quite funny. Puig and Gonzalez autograph signs a fan made.. one had Gonzalez on dumbo and said Dumbo and Dumber.. the other one had a picture of a squirrel with a Cardinals hat and said our squirrel and a picture of Puig which said your squirrel. Really freaking cool to see them laughing at them and signing them for the fan. Series has been a good one. |

On a day when Kershaw didn't have much to his stuff, the strike zone was atrocious.
But Kershaw's curve had zero curve to it tonight |

See ya next year baseball.

Great way to end the series. Looking forward to facing either great oldtime franchise of Detroit or Boston. Should be a good series!

20 of 25 players are homegrown. 3 rookie pitchers to clinch the WS. 22 year old pitcher is MVP. Good stuff. Go Cardinals.

Ok, I guess I did like Andy Van Slyke, but probably more from his exploits with the Pirates than the Cardinals.

He was one of my favs growing up. I got to meat him at an appliance store in Belleville, IL in 1985. He was a great guy and signed a photo and baseball for me. The Tony Pena trade was a tough one for me at the time. Spanky LaValliere was another fan favorite and losing both those guys hurt. The fact that Pena never did much made it even worse over time.

If the Tigers get beat, I might have to cheer for the Cards just because a guy who goes to my church is from there. Until then...

woohoo Cards! Congrats to the Dodgers for making it as far as they did after it looked like it was going to be a horrible season where their manager was going to be fired any day.
Given our recent World Series history with Bos/Det, I'd much prefer Detroit as our opponent, just saying |

Love it. The hated Dodgers are out! St. Louis, which its rich baseball history and fantastic baseball city and fans, is always a great representative for the National League. They will be going up against Red Sox or Tigers, either matchups have great World Series histories.

So here's a question - how long does it take to raise fantastic, knowledgeable fans? One generation? Two, three? Does a certain proportion of them need to be over 50? How do fans in some cities stay ignorant despite having teams for 40*, 50, 130 years? Is winning necessary to teach these fans good, correct baseball?
Does failing to support a team make them better? worse? Or does eschewing other franchises or sports to put their full efforts into baseball show their superiority? * not to mention the Braves years

With Boston and Stl moving on I wonder just how much fan baiting will take place. Maybe both fan bases will join up against the rest of baseball in sort of a We Are the World, kumbaya moment of disliked teams.

The next week and a half of discussions about the likability of fan-bases is sure to be exhilarating and must-read stuff, but don't forget MBBF, the most disliked teams and fanbases at FOFC have earned that status strictly due to your individual affiliation with them. That's pretty impressive, and this is a great example of that charm. I mean seriously, do you consider yourself a "humble" fan? That's your angle here? I don't even entirely understand the concept of "arrogant" and "humble" fans, I mean, most people just kind of root for certain teams to win based on where they grew up or went to school and stuff, but at an individual level, you clearly are somewhere around 11 on a 1-10 arrogance scale. If a fan or fanbase is "arrogant" because they always have inflated expectations about how well their team is going to do, and they always think their program will hire a bigger-name coach than they end up getting, or they never think any coach would ever leave their program, or if they have an inflated sense of how relevant their team is generally, or they have an exaggerated view of how much anyone wants to hear their thoughts about their team, you may actually be a 500 on a 1-10 scale. And I do find you occasionally entertaining because of your spectacular lack of self-awareness about how you come across. Edit: It's a little surreal, again, to be lectured about arrogance (all in the context of posters proclaiming how superior their fanbases are), especially where this season, the Red Sox had a huge problem getting their fans to think they were for real. They couldn't even sell out this year. TV ratings were way down. But, it is a nice surprise to be in the World Series. My arrogance led me to believe they'd be a lot better than last year after cleaning out so much deadwood, the huge upgrade at manager, and some great role player signings, but I was thinking along the lines of 85 wins and flirting with a wild card late, if everything came together. What's happened instead has been just a great ride. I should probably enjoy and be amused by the whining about it more than I do, and I do in most cases, but when MBBF criticizes anyone for arrogance, you know, something should be said. Of course, ideally, the best thing to do is try to enjoy your team and tune out the whiners who will try to make everything about them. It's easier said than done if you hang out on message boards, and I think I've gotten much better at it in the last 5 years, but I still can't help myself every once in a while.....I wonder if anyone acts like this in person. Like if I see someone in the coffee room tomorrow, they might say, "hey, how about those red sox," but never has anyone pulled me aside and objected to the arrogance of the general Red Sox fan base in an attempt to bait me into some tedious argument. Not in a funny busting-someones-balls way, but from a place of actual disdain and anger. That's just be a crazy-person kind of thing to do. Last edited by molson : 10-20-2013 at 12:06 PM. |

Wrigley is a big party where a baseball game happens to be going on. Decades of losing does this I think. Busch is less of a party atmosphere, where most fans go for a baseball game. Decades of winning does this. That is what Im comparing. Sorry you had a bad time at Busch. Definitely a rivalry there. And no fanbase is perfect.
