I'm kind of underwhelmed by the Taco Bell Cheeze It Crunchwrap Supreme. I just feel the Cheeze It doesn't really offer anything to improve the product. I wouldn't say that it is any better or worse than a regular Crunchwrap Supreme.

In other food news, we stopped at a Buc-ees on the way home. Those brisket sandwiches are legit. Their praline cookies are addictive as well. |

We've known about Bucc-ees for a while because my parents were in TX, but they opened one just south of Richmond on I-75 (about 50 minutes away from us, 5-10 minutes from my daughter's college) and now another one is opening near Bowling Green on I-65. Some decent food, honestly.

You hadn't hit Buc-ees previously? Oh man, you gotta get out more (There's Calhoun to the north of you, Fort Valley to the south of you) Pro tip? Their most basic cold case turkey sandwich is shockingly good for what it is, a good option for those times when the brisket is running low & the lines are getting long. Pair it with their onion ring (chips), those are a cross between Funyons & the old Golden Flake ones.

They are opening the world's biggest Bucc-ees on Monday in Luling, Texas. It is replacing their very first super-center they built. That one was 35,000 square feet. The new one is 75,000 square feet with 120 gas pumps.

I had a customer offer me a door today. He is a set designer, and the door was from a barn he built on a sound stage for a movie starring Will Farrell and Resse Witherspoon. He just finished a movie that had Eddie Murphy and Pete Davidson in it. I still wonder where these people are staying while they are filiming here.

For the 3rd time in my last 5 orders, UberEats gets to issue me a refund for missing/wrong items.
5 different restaurants involved. And 1 of the 2 orders that managed to be right there was literally only one item in it, so unless they brought an empty bag that one seems a little hard for even the crackaddled frybrained folks around this shithole town to fuck up.

So, is that three restaurants fucking up or a couple of drivers figuring they can apply a tariff to your order, so to speak?

5 diff restaurants, 5 diff drivers. And hmm, one of the cases could have been that very easily ... though it feels more like the halfwit picked up one bag when there was most likely two (cold poke bowl & hot crab rangoons, from a place who tends to pack stuff like that)

The latter ain't happening. I cooked more for my wife during her illness than I cooked in the other 50+ years of my life combined. I associate cooking -- as well as any extensive grocery shopping -- with cancer & misery and I have no interest in revisiting that. I've never enjoyed it, I hate any cleanup associated with the kitchen beyond measure. I'd have to be the dumbest sumbitch on the planet to voluntarily engage in an activity that literally has zero positive association. The other? I leave the house voluntarily when my cigarette supply runs low, and typically pick up a minimum of two meals worth when I'm out, three if I can manage it. And I often only eat once a day when I'm the only one home (like now) Those five orders I mentioned occurred over a span of 15 days, and 4 of the 5 were intended to cover multiple meals if not days. And ultimately I spent my whole life working to be in a position of minimizing my own misery as best I can. Anybody that doesn't care for how I do that legally can kiss my ass, , go fuck themselves, and generally take a very long walk off a very short pier preferably with a large heavy object firmly attached to their neck and ankles.

Speaking of restaurants, we went to Texas Roadhouse this weekend for dinner. Randomly, staff members came out in the aisle between tables and performed some sort of line dance performance. This was not a dance team or an additional show in addition to dinner. The guy who took our order did his little line dance and went back to waiting tables. It wasn't a birthday celebration as far as I could tell where the staff brings out a birthday cake and sing Happy Birthday to Grandma or the embarrassed teenager. There was no cake and no one sang Happy Birthday. It was just 5-8 staff members did a 90 second line dance to a song playing on the speaker system that maybe five percent of the packed restaurant could see and just moved on. I guess it is a regular thing but no one in our section had a full understanding as to why this performance was happening

A little Googling turns up that it's at the discretion of the local owner, happens as frequently as every 30 minutes, more typically once an hour. By location, it's either optional, "preferred", or mandatory. I think I knew it existed, although I don't think it's a regular feature at the one nearest me.

I've never been to a Texas Roadhouse, but knowing that might happen just about killed any desire I had (and it was a significant desire) to check one out.

When I was in my late teens/early 20s looking for a servers job I applied at one. They told me they did this and I got up and walked out of the interview. Went to the TGI Fridays down the road that was about to open. Got a job there and you can draw a direct line years later to me meeting my wife while bartending.

I have not been to a Texas Roadhouse in years. There are a few places I've just stopped going to - that place, Applebee's, Chili's, Friday's. I've gotten to the point where I'd rather have fast casual or higher end sit-down, and very little in between.

I’ve been to Texas Roadhouse once in maybe a decade but it was recent and the food was actually good. My 8 year old ate a large medium rare prime rib by himself and said it was one of the best things he’s ever had. For my money I think my steaks are better on the grill, but I rarely buy the quality of cut that you can get here as I generally just pick my steaks up on sale at Kroger or Save-a-lot and leave the butcher shop for two or three times a year on special occasions.
No one line danced during our meal but my four year old came close trying to chase his mom down as she went to the bathroom and then getting scared by strangers and quickly returning to our table.

Funny enough, I hadn't been to Texas Roadhouse in 20 years. The hotel we stayed at last week in Harrisburg, Virginia, had one right across the street, so we had dinner there. It was very good and the prices weren't terrible. No one danced, but they did sing a birthday song to someone. Those rolls are serious. That cinnamon honey butter was the second best butter we had on the trip. The first best was the apple butter we had at a steak restaurant in Bennington, Vermont.

Funny enough if you gave me the choice of the chain family steak houses in this price range I’m taking Outback and I’m not even ordering steak. Give me the rack of Lamb and the blooming onion (better than Texas roadhouses version IMO.)

We’re doing an addition and kitchen renovation at our house that will take about 10 months, so we moved into a rental house in the neighborhood. There was an ant problem along one of the counters right next to a window. There constant ants likely attracted to a combo of electronics - it’s where we have our chargers and things - and some food. I tried some of the barrier stuff around the outside of the house to no avail.
Yesterday, I bought some of those Terro liquid ant traps, because I cannot tolerate infestation. They swarmed to them like crazy. At one point some ants had formed a semi-circle around one and it looked like they were worshipping it. I got up this morning and there no signs of ants at all. Not sure if they’ll come back, but after 24 hours the traps seem crazy effective.

Family Feud is just entirely scripted now, right? Maybe it always has been, and they just recently gave up trying to hide it.

In your research, did you find a "why"? I recently went to Coyote Ugly to hang out with some friends. Members of the staff jumped up on the bar and danced to a song. I know why that was done. I saw the movie. I have been to places that also had Roadhouse in the name and never saw anything like that. Other than guaranteeing that my youngest is now determined to follow in Lathum's footsteps and never work there, the little show did not ruin our experience. It was just super random.
