That said, Andrew Ladd must be pissed to see Little getting paid more than him. And this can only mean that Wheeler and Bogo are both probably going to average >5m/yr.

How are all of these teams going to stay under the cap in 3 years?

Yep, another fairly-high-but-not-ludicrous signing. I'm not a big fan of the 7 years on this one, though. I much prefer 4-5 year contracts, with 6 feeling like a stretch. 7+ to me should be reserved for a handful of players in the league, if at all. Too much can happen in 7 years.

However, all in all I'm happy they got it done, and the Jets now don't have any major guys coming up as RFA or UFAs for the next 2 off-seasons. If these guys can grow, plus Chevy's drafts start to produce a bit of talent, the Jets could have a pretty solid team in a couple years.

Bring on October!

But this looks like NBA where the superstars are getting superstar contracts. And the filler types are getting league minimum deals.

And then there are these deals. There really aren't the nice, solid, top 9 forward type player contracts any longer. The $2-3m deal. Unless it's an existing contract, it's gone. You're either getting $5m+, or under $1m.

Pavelski is a nice player, top 6 on every team in the league. Same for Wheeler. But the market is just...wonky.

It does look to be moving that way, which is sort of a reflection of society in general I think. A select few making major bucks, an ever-shrinking middle class, and then the majority clamoring for minimum or near-min dollars.

I know this has been done in various arenas for Wings fans.

I can't find a source with the quote, but taking this from HF.

From a Flyers season ticket holder meeting with coaches/management. In an offseason that included extending Giroux, buying out Bryzgalov and Briere, and signing Lecavalier, what is the first question asked?

Quote:
The 1st question was about Lavy being selected to coach the US Olympic team with Dan Bylsma and how that was going to work out and if it was a bit uncomfortable. Lavy stumbled a bit with this one and didn't know what to say as he was trying to think of a diplomatic way to answer. He basically said yes it is a bit uncomfortable and that it does suck having to work under Bylsma and he and Bylsma did speak about it and how the Flyers and Pens hate each other (players, coaches, fans etc.). Lavy feels that he imself is a nice guy and Bylsma is a nice guy and that in the end it is a different situation and that they are going to work together just fine. Lavy did say that in reality he himself really is a nice guy and that even his wife was surprised at how he yelled at Bylsma from the bench during that one game.

As someone who lives in an area notorious for transplant (and usually obnoxious) fans who flood our stadiums for their teams alone, I don't have a problem with this.

They should have asked him if he is allowed to cut to the front of the line at the DMV.

6 years/$36 million seems pretty high for Crawford, but it's hard to argue with much the Blackhawks are doing right now.

Actually like this deal better than the Crawford deal. Hjarlmarsson is a top 4 on just about every team.

But Crawford "earned" that pay day being a Cup winning goaltender. Fleury cashed in, Crawford doing the same.

Cleary was offered three years and $2.75 million per season from the Flyers, though they cannot make the deal official until the end of the month because they are already over the salary cap. While teams don’t have to be compliant until the season begins in October, the Flyers are bringing Cleary in as a professional tryout. They get $5 million in salary cap relief as soon as they put defenseman Chris Pronger on long-term injured reserve.

Also reported that it will contain a NTC.

So, a guy who seemingly was getting zero interest from 30 teams, days before camps open, is now worth $2.75m a year. And a NTC?

Yay lockout indeed!

There are conflicting reports out of Philly that there is no actual contract being offered. Cleary is simply being invited to the Flyers camp on a try out basis and can earn a deal if he impresses, the terms of which have yet to be determined.

And the answer is... Ron Hainsey. $2 mill for a year. Still leaves a couple mill under the cap plus the exception for Pitkanen's salary, though I can't imagine they'll spend $4 million to make use of it.

Yay lockout v3.0

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins 7 years, $42m.

He seems like he could be really good. Not in the Crosby/Malkin/Stamkos tier, but the next group with Giroux etc...but he hasn't made it through a full season in his first two years.

It seems like all the lockout accomplished was to get larger, longer contracts for unproven youth. Yay?

Next lockout will abolish the entry level contract, so these guys can sign 8 year deals as rookies, alleviating the whole messy,RFA, 2nd contract issue.

Nice brawl in the Sabres-Leafs game tonight. Clarkson and Kessel both did pretty stupid things. Suspensions have to be coming for both of them. John Scott made a bit of a name for himself with that act of cowardice as well. Can't wait until the teams meet again in November though!

Now that I've cracked and made that admission, I wonder if I'm only a couple of steps away from wanting to tongue-kiss Jaromir Jagr and give Bobby Clarke a blowjob.

Match penalty for Kessel also includes an automatic suspension
