There is an app called WiFi File Explorer that basically creates a web server on your android and serves up your files via wifi to any browser which you can then download. You can customize the settings to make it secure. I use it all the time and its fantastic.

Found three new games that might interest some of you:

If you like Kairosoft games, they have a new one, World Cruise Story. And in the market, there's a new Japanese one set in space. Haven't seen much about it in English...

Also if you're a fan of Kairosoft games, there's one in a similar vein called Tiny Tower. The description reminds me of SimTower from back in the day. I haven't tried it yet.

Finally, the iOS game Pocket Frogs is now on Android. Played around with it for a bit last night and it's pretty fun. It's a good time waster, and at the price of $0, it's hard to go wrong.

I'm playing a lot of Elder Sign: Omens. It's almost a direct translation of the board game. The app is really well done. It downloads content after the installation and you can choose a phone or tablet version. I'm playing the phone version and despite some of the text being a little small, it still plays well. It's $3.99 but worth it I think.

Ok, it's not a great app, but proceeds are going to Child's Play, so I'm linking it here...

Desert Bus.. Desert Bus drives onto iOS and Android, proceeds go to Child's Play | Joystiq

If anyone here likes the Board Game / Card Game Dominion, this might take care of your need to play on your phone.

TestAndrominion - Apps on Android Market.

I link to the Test version because it is solid and updated most recently.

I also picked up Game Dev Story, and while it is addicting in one sense, it's also frustrating because it provides very little guidance about some of the more important aspects of the game. Like, what's a reversi, a table, how would I know that certain combinations of game types and formats are strange as opposed to perfect, and then as far as direction, I don't know what most of those things mean. What's Game World mean as far as direction? What positions should I be hiring? I'm playing, and oddly enjoying it, but I don't really get the sense I have any clue what I'm doing. I'm just making shit up as I go, and if it works, great. If not, I start to get bored/frustrated, and I quit.

Don't know if anyones mentioned it in here .... but Football Manager Handheld is out on Android now ...

Football Manager Handheld - Google Play Store Link

PS - I second GameDevStory, with regards to 'what works' - the consoles mimick heavily the real-world consoles, look at the shape of the device in the game and it'll tell you whether it'll be successful according to the most similar one irl. Similarly with 'genres' they follow real-life trends to a large extent in terms of popularity and competition, oh and if you do well you can design your own console eventually

I just learned that Book of Heroes, an iOS game, is now available for Android. And with your Venan ID you can play all your characters on both systems.

I have a dozen or so of these "Apps" on my phone, and .. how the hell do I tell my phone to not try to update them ? I guess I could just ignore it, but a couple times a day my phone feels the need to tell me that 13 apps are available to update. I DON'T CARE ! I'm quite happy with what I have, I don't want to update them, and if i do, I can just do it. I don't need my phone telling me to do it several times every day.

Might be a good idea to turn on Auto Update in that same menu.

IMO the killer Android app has finally been announced. XBMC for Android! I've been a HUGE XBMC supporter for 6 years now from modding my old X-Box, getting a Boxee Box and also hacking an Apply TV. Soon enough there will be a real full fledged XBMC in Google Play that I hopefully will be able to run on my Sony Google TV BlueRay player.

Played for about an hour and so far I like it. It doesn't show the action like FM does, but it's been easy to get into the game and figure out what to do.

TouchNote is an app that creates, and sends, postcards made by you. Through August 31st, they will send your postcards free (they are $1.49 after). I created four using pictures I've taken, sent two to the girl, and two blank ones to myself.

Depending on how they come out, I may really use this over the next couple of weeks. Very easy to use.

This might have been asked already, but if I get an android phone, and use skype, I can video chat with anyone who has skype, right? Regardless of if they're using an android/iphone/pc/mac/whatever? I want my son to be able to use it to chat with my mother, who uses an iphone, but she mentioned that she uses tango to video chat with someone else, and they have to use that because she has an iphone and he has an android. Is there some reason not to just use skype?

I didn't know that was new, I downloaded it last week. Keeps crashing on me, but that's probably because my phone is older -- I got a warning saying it's not designed for my phone.

So based on an old post in this thread, I downloaded Battery Left Widget. I like it -- a nice little percentage in the upper left corner, which is better than trying to figure out the bar on the upper right. But, how do I put the widget on one of my screens?

On any home screen, tap and hold, a menu should pop up "add to home screen." Select widgets, and scroll to Battery Left Widget. You should be able to place the widget in any empty slot.

As was said above.

The Battery Left widget is pretty nice because it has some little functions that are handy, but I've since switched to "Circle Battery Widget." It looks pretty sharp and I didn't really trust the timers on Battery Left.

Thanks, I'll try that -- it was your post recommending Battery Left Widget, so I'll try your new recommendation. Do you still use Subsonic?

Hmm. Battery Left Widget seems less invasive, since I can not use the widget, and just have the number in the upper left corner. Is there a reason to prefer the widget, which takes up space on the home screen?

If that's all you're asking, see if you can do this (I've got Ice Cream Sandwich, so I'm not sure if older Android versions have this feature):

Go to System Settings > Display

Scroll to bottom, and see if there is "Display battery percentage", and check the box.

Yeah, I don't see that -- must not be on the version 2.1 that I have.

Has anyone had a problem with a battery that just drains super fast? I initially thought it was an app eating it but I swapped out the battery and the phone works fine now.
