A decent week, but not great. Lost a pound and a half, and that was only going to the gym twice and only walking on an incline. I talked to my dad tonight about my knee, and he says it sounds like bursitis and it just needs rest. *sigh* So much for getting back up to four or five pounds lost again in the next couple of weeks.
Starting weight: 221.5 Week 1 (4/9): 216.0 Week 2 (4/16): 212.0 Week 3 (4/23): 210.5 Down eleven pounds total, not too shabby for just three weeks.

Pretty much been a rough month.
Lots of excuses, but a business trip, several klunch meetings and seems like every week something has happened to throw my schedule off kilter. Back on the scales yesterday and a litlle disappointed but given my lack of discipline 3 straight weeks, all in all not bad. Starting Weight (1/1/07): 298 Last Weight: (3/29) 262 Current Weight (3/29): 266 (-4.0) Total Weight Lost: 32lbs Time to buckel back down and get back to losing |

Not a good week for me last week. Monday was my niece's birthday, and I had a big piece of Peanut Butter Ice Cream pie. Tuesday and Wednesday I was pretty good, but Thursday I made some Italian for the wife and had a bottle of wine, and Friday I hit the Indian buffet for lunch and then grilled a big ol' ribeye for dinner along with a sixer of Shiner Light. Last but not least, Saturday we went to IHOP for lunch and I had Chicken Fried Steak and Eggs. Somehow, though, I only managed to put on a single pound.
My knee is feeling much better, but there are still twinges every once in a while. I'm hoping it's better by next Tuesday so I can get back to doing some cardio. I'll need th exercise, because the weekend of the 12th I'm going to be eating HORRIBLY...I'll be celebrating my 30th birthday and eating and drinking whatever the damn hell I want. Starting weight: 221.5 Week 1 (4/9): 216.0 Week 2 (4/16): 212.0 Week 3 (4/23): 210.5 Week 4 (5/01): 211.5 Ten pounds down total...

Forgot to report in earlier this week. Lost a pound, but my 30th birthday was Wednesday and I've been using that as an excuse to eat and drink whatever I please. I'm sure I've gained at least five pounds this week. The good news that I will start going back to the gym next week...
Starting weight: 221.5 Week 1 (4/9): 216.0 Week 2 (4/16): 212.0 Week 3 (4/23): 210.5 Week 4 (5/01): 211.5 Week5 (5/07): 210.5

Despite it being my birthday last week and my eating and drinking much more than I should have, I managed to maintain last week's weight. Much better than I was expecting!
Starting weight: 221.5 Week 1 (4/9): 216.0 Week 2 (4/16): 212.0 Week 3 (4/23): 210.5 Week 4 (5/01): 211.5 Week 5 (5/07): 210.5 Week 6 (5/14): 210.5 My knees are feeling good and tomorrow morning I'm hitting the gym. I'm hoping for a good weight next week!

This thread has really dropped off!
I'm hovering just above 165. I'd really like to maintain somewhere around 160 or maybe a little less, but I'm not sure it's going to happen. I'm not working out as much as I used to, but I am still staying active. I'm starting up adult league softball tonight and soccer in a couple of weeks. I haven't played soccer since I was about 12, so this should be interesting. Even baseball I haven't played competitively since I was in high school. I practiced this weekend with my 7-year old daughter. So I'm hoping our competition isn't much better than a grade school kid, or I'm in trouble!

I only managed to make it to the gym once last week (now that my knees are better my freakin' back started acting up ) but I still managed to drop a couple of pounds. Not bad, but not quite as good as I was hoping...
Starting weight: 221.5 Week 1 (4/9): 216.0 Week 2 (4/16): 212.0 Week 3 (4/23): 210.5 Week 4 (5/01): 211.5 Week 5 (5/07): 210.5 Week 6 (5/14): 210.5 Week 7 (5/21): 208.5 This weekend we're to visit the in-laws in Missouri, and they LOVE to go out to eat. Should be interesting to see if I be good while on the road...

Nice job!
I'm getting back into the workout thing full-swing. Or at least going to try. I'm also tightening up on what I eat. I've been letting myself have too many goodies here and there and it's catching up to me. Can't let it happen.

I wasn't very good at all over the Memorial Day weekend. Traveling makes it difficult. But I suppose I really didn't gain as much as I thought I would have...
Starting weight: 221.5 Week 1 (4/9): 216.0 Week 2 (4/16): 212.0 Week 3 (4/23): 210.5 Week 4 (5/01): 211.5 Week 5 (5/07): 210.5 Week 6 (5/14): 210.5 Week 7 (5/21): 208.5 Week 8 (5/30): 209.0 The good news is that my back and knees feel pretty good now, so gym visits should be pretty regular. And over the weekend I rediscovered how much fun playing golf can be, so I'm going to try to get out more play. It's not a ton of exercise, but it's easily more than I get sitting at my computer and posting at FOFC...

Figured I would check in real quick...
A few years ago (around 2002) I was 245 lbs (I am 5'10") and got down to 193 before sliding back to 218.5 in the spring of '04. At that point I discovered South Beach and got down to 163 eating a shitload of sugar alcohols and bacon. Poker and no sleep and house renovations, etc. kicked my ass in 2005 and 2006 and I gained all of the weight back and then some. On January 1st of this year I was back to 235 and things were not looking so hot. I was hardcore depressed and I took it out on folks around me. It had to stop. So...I actually made a resolution and stuck to it. I resolved to workout 25 times a month and bring my lunch to work every day and see what happened. I started a running club over at FOBL and guys like Simms and digamma and cuervo and Double A joined up and we kept tabs on each other and have run some races in our respective areas. Running was good, but I couldn't run every day - so I got a rowing machine and an exercise bike to supplement my workouts. I really have tried to emphasize exercise this time, as I want to keep off any weight I lose and not gain it back. On a typical day I do one of (or a combination of) rowing and running and biking and have been averaging about 1000 calories burned per day (not counting the 2200 I burn just moving around). I kicked sodas and rarely drink alcohol. I probably eat about seven times per day for a total of about 2000 calories, maybe a tad less. So far: Jan 1: 235 Feb 1: 222.4 March 1: 209.6 April 1: 200.4 May 1: 188.0 June 1: 179.4 Today: 174.0 My goal is to get under 170 by Independence Day and then to hit 160 as my goal weight and move to 10% body fat. I really enjoy running races and have run a half marathon and 10k this year so far and want to do a ton more. Anyway...just posting this so folks can see if you completely screw up a portion of your weight loss (like dumbass me gaining back the 70 lbs I dropped), that all hope is not lost... Good luck and I will definitely be checking in and updating.

That was me last year, I just started it about 4 months earlier than you. I've gained a few pounds back, but I was at 167 today, so I'm not doing too bad. Like you, I want to get down to around 160. I still have a ways to go to get fit. I'd be happy with 15% body fat, let alone 10%. I'm playing softball and soccer to help with the exercise, since I can't always get to the gym or ride my bike.

I tweaked my diet a bit...instead of eating Minnestrone soup or wheat linguine with a pomodoro sauce for lunch at work, I've started eating two chicken breasts with pomodo sauce (a diced tomato and basil sauce) with mushrooms and asparagus and no pasta instead, and it's made a bigger difference than I expected...
Starting weight: 221.5 Week 1 (4/9): 216.0 Week 2 (4/16): 212.0 Week 3 (4/23): 210.5 Week 4 (5/01): 211.5 Week 5 (5/07): 210.5 Week 6 (5/14): 210.5 Week 7 (5/21): 208.5 Week 8 (5/30): 209.0 Week 9 (6/05): 208.0 Week 10 (6/12): 206.5 Week 11 (6/18): 205.0 Week 12 (6/25): 204.0 Week 13 (7/3): 199.5 I certainly wasn't expecting a four and a half pound loss! This is the first time I've been under 200 pounds in I don't know how many years. I would like to lose another five to ten pounds, but I don't know how possible that really is. I just want to get rid of the last remnants of my gut before it's all said and done. That being said, this upcoming week is going to be a challenge. I'm going out of town again, this time to Iowa for a family reunion. So we'll be eating out almost every day, every meal. It's hard for me to be good when we go out to eat...

20 plus lbs. in 3 months good going Jeebs!
Those 4 months working graveyard really, really hurt me. It was hard finding time to workout and never really had time to make lunches (my option was McDonalds.. that's about it). But what's done is done, now it's time to get on this thing. |

Congrats Jeebs!
Okay - had my goal weigh-in yesterday... Jan 1: 235 Feb 1: 222.4 March 1: 209.6 April 1: 200.4 May 1: 188.0 June 1: 179.4 July 4th: 169.4 Happy with the loss...particularly since I am not doing any kind of "fad" diet this time around (last time I did South Beach and was sucking down way too many sugar alcohols). This is purely hard, frequent exercise and 5-6 "meals" per day. A typical day of eating looks like this: meal 1: bowl of bran cereal, blueberries - 250 calories meal 2: serving of almonds, cheddar cheese slice - 250 calories meal 3: 3 oz of tunafish, lt. mayo, relish on whole wheat - 300 calories meal 4: whole grain snack bar - 150 calories meal 5: lowfat yogurt w/ bran cereal - 125 calories meal 6: dinner - 400-600 calories Drinking a few cups of coffee in the morning, water througout the day. No soda or alcohol. Anyway - I revised my goal weight down to 155 because I want to run more distance races and this seems like a good weight (particularly if I can get the body fat % into single digits).

I can't leave Jeeber alone in this thread, its time to take another shot at this, after two aborted attempts in the last year.
Last July I was down to about 300 pounds even. The laziness and lethargy I found I could "get away with" once separated and then divorced, plus a big jump in disposable income, had me in a pretty bad place, and I gained 55 pounds in about 5 months, ordering in or eating out literally every single meal for months. I tried twice two get myself moving again(both times in this thread), without success. I've already done some things differently, I've brought some better foods into the house already(instead of posting and saying 'tomorrow is when i go buy fruit and good stuff, etc, and then not doing it and failing right from the start). I've already been exercising for a couple days. for the last week or so I've been grabbing a bottle of water at work and resisting the urge to go to the store in the lobby of my building and buy a soda. I had said in this thread the last time I started this... I'm 6'4", and I've never been above 330 in my life until this past year, and have been down as low as 300 a few times in the last 3-4 years, to step on the scale and see a number of 350 quite frankly terrifies me. How I've been able to sit at this weight for basically a year now without doing anything about, there's no excuse, so here's another honest to god shot at getting myself back in shape again. Week 1 (8/4): 352.7 I had a good week, I'm trying to make small changes in a lot of areas that I've done poorly in over the last year. I only ate out once this week, and took half my food home. The rest of the week i ate microwave meals or cooked my own food on the foreman grill. Its not all healthy yet but the portions are a ton better than all the eating out i've done, I'm definitely eating less overall, and less fried foods, etc. I've cut back on the regular sodas, I had at least three glasses of water every day this week, and not more than one regular soda and one coke zero in any day... remember that I'm coming from drinking regular Coke literally with every meal and snack and having maybe one glass of water in a day at the most, everything else high calorie sugary sodas, bleh. And I've begun exercising, trying to get in small amounts of activity through the day, walking a lap around the parking deck on my way in and out of the office at work, doing some small strength building exercises at home, and some walking. I have very low endurance right now even for basic things, so i'm building up slowly. Off to a good start, I am happy. |

I'm going to join in on this, as well. I need to come up with a good way to exercise routinely, so maybe posting here will help me be a little more accountable.
I had bloodwork done when I turned 30 and found out that my cholesterol is quite high. I've begun taking Crestor and need to get into better shape to help get to a healthy/manageable level. I've stopped eating red meats, most cheeses, and have tried to generally cut down on my fat intake. I weigh about 194 lbs and would like to get down to 175-180 lbs. Has anyone else had their bloodwork done and started on cholesterol medicine? If not, I'd recommend getting your cholesterol and blood pressure checked by a physician and getting treated sooner, rather than later. I'll post my cholesterol levels in a day or two and then, I'll have them done again in a few months to see if/how things have improved. |

Bad, bad, bad AnalBumCover! I haven't been keeping up with MY OWN DYNASTY! And look now.... with one month to go 'til my wedding, and I haven't made any progress.
So now, with one month, I'll be going full throttle on my SBD, starting today. I'll probably stay in Phase I until my wedding, unless someone suggests otherwise. I know I can do it... but I WILL NEED ALL YOUR HELP! I would love to read each and every post in this thread from the very beginning for a little motivation, but work constraints and wedding planning has been taking away practically all my online time. What would really help is if you can send me an occasional email or PM - a motivational tool if you will - to keep me on my path. rordona AT att DOT net I'll keep you up to date with some short notes here. If not, please remind me with me another email/PM. Congratulations to all who have participated in this thread. I'm glad to see that it hasn't died even with the author MIA. I'll jump back in this as well. I had a mountain of work in April that had me keeping some strange hours, eliminated my workouts, and introduced more caffeine and bad meals back into the diet. That was followed up by our adopting a baby girl in May, with the standard lack of sleep and free time that goes with the intro to parenting.
The good news is that I only put on about three pounds from my bottom weight - checked in at 172.6 this morning. I would love to get down to 165 and think this is very doable. Right now I'm drinking about two cans of Coke a day and paying relatively little attention to my diet. I'm starting back up on the treadmill this week, looking to get four workouts of 20-40 minutes per day in after Addison goes to bed (she is a good sleeper). New Starting Weight (08/07): 172.6 |

My first set-back on Sunday... our fantasy football draft. 12 guys in one house, with chips/beer/soda/pizzas galore. Add a Philly cheesesteak sandwich buffet line and I'm fucked.
I passed on the chips, beer and soda, but made myself a small plate of the Philly cheesesteak, sans bread, but with the grilled onions and bell peppers. Yum! I did bring my own lunch - which I did eat - a salad with some baby spinach and tuna with some tomatoes and homemade vinaigarette. To snack, a couple sticks of light string cheese. Near the end of the day, I couldn't help but grab a lone slice of pepperoni pizza. Shit. I didn't have to, but it called to me, and I gave in. Stupid fantasy football. Anyways, my first official weigh-in on Monday morning: Starting Weight (08/07): 223.6 Week 1 (8/13): 217.4 (-6.2) <-- no change from thursday's unofficial weigh-in

Starting Weight (7/28): 357.0
Week 1 (8/4): 352.7 Week 2 (8/13): 351.1 (-5.9) I get up at a pretty consistent time on Mondays, and always prefer 'weigh in day' be a Monday morning instead of during the weekend, hence the 9 day time frame here. I did pretty good last week, I've ramped up the exercise a bit, but as I have done that I've been HUNGRY more often, I had a few days last week where I gave in and had two sodas, ordered a pizza once, etc, but still a vast improvement from sodas every time I'm thirsty and ordering in 5+ nights a week. I'm feeling noticeably better than I did two weeks ago, I have more energy and find myself getting sore/winded slightly less often and less easily. Goals for this week are to get some exercise every day and to reel back in the eating, trying to plan snacks and such better so i don't end up feeling extremely hungry often. |

Less than three weeks to go until my wedding, and my crash diet is going really well. I've lost a good amount of weight, and my pants feel a bit looser now.
Now that the Fiancee is no longer working (she just quit her job and will start a new one after our honeymoon), we have time together to add a little excercise to our regimen. On the agenda this afternoon: walk to the local Target store and buy some supplies for our wedding. I'm glad she's on board with this. In fact, while I was out yesterday, she cooked me a delicious salmon dinner, straight out of the South Beach Diet book. Her participation really helps my motivation. Starting Weight (08/07): 223.6 Week 1 (8/13): 217.4 Week 2 (8/20): 214.6 (-9.0)

I weighed in today and was under 350 for the first time, 349.8 I think, I got real sick on Saturday though and was really dehydrated monday and drinking a ton, then got super hungry tuesday when i started feeling better and pigged out a bit, it kinda threw off the weigh in for the week, among other things
I'm looking into a couple "Medical Weight Loss" centers/offices to possibly check out later this week or early next week, a good friend of mine got recommended to a place in Savannah that he's had very good results with. I'm not looking for a "quick loss" type thing, the types of places I've seen so far are more like bariatric clinics, with doctors who are sympathic/supportive to weight loss problems, nutritionists on staff to work with you personally, that sort of thing. I hate finding a new doctor after a move and haven't been to one in awhile, I've had terrible luck with docs who will just look at me and say "eat less, exercise more, bye", so we'll see how this goes. |

The timing couldn't have been better. With just about two weeks to go until my wedding, my weight loss began to plateau, and I started to feel a bit discouraged. But yesterday I saw my brother-in-law, who I hadn't seen in about two months. He looked incredibly lean compared to the last time he came to town.
I asked him how he did it, and he revealed to me that he was recently diagnosed with diabetes, and his is a doctor-prescribed diet - not too different from the South Beach Diet. Included in his regimen is a daily one-hour walk around the neighborhood after dinner. In about a month-and-a-half, he'd lost 25lbs. And his evening walks, had turned into light jogs, and he hopes to lose just another 10 lbs to reach his "bachelor days" weight. Talking to him gave me an immediate boost of confidence and inspiration, and I went out for a long walk after dinner that evening. Less than two weeks to go til the big day. I can see myself lose another 5-8 lbs by then. Starting Weight (08/07): 223.6 Week 1 (8/13): 217.4 Week 2 (8/20): 214.6 Week 3 (8/27): 213.6 (-10.0)

Ok, so this is basically a 'start over' point for me. I had started eating better, started exercising more, but its time to go all out. Also the weight number is resetting b/c i'll be officially weighing in once a week at the place I'm going to. Last Saturday I went to a weight loss center and had some tests run as part of an initial consultation. They measured body fat, BMI, did bloodwork to send off, urinalysis, checked my blood pressure of course. Today(6 days later) I went to see their doctor to see how all the tests looked and what they recommend for me. I knew going in that they will make use of appetite suppressants to assist with weight loss, which is probably a bit controversial, so I did research on my own and talked to some people before I went to feel confidant that this is a step I want to take, and at my age, weight, and given my history with weight loss efforts, it absolutely is. Anyway, I saw the doc today. My blood sugar is very high, to the point that diabetes is a concern, so I'm now taking a prescription to help regulate that and will have another round of blood work done after losing some weight to see if the blood sugar is better. My 'good cholesterol' is a little low, but otherwise, things look good. My blood pressure last Saturday was 120/83, and today was 125/83, my bad cholesterol number is solid, and we went over a bunch of other things that I don't remember fully but everything he showed me was normal. Oh also an EKG showed no heart issues to worry about. I'm not surprised at all about the blood sugar, and I'm pleased to not have any other major problems to worry about. So as of today I'm taking a prescription appetite suppressant, and in a couple days will start taking the blood sugar medicine as well(the doc said to start one a few days after the other so if there are side effects, we'll know which drug causes them). The diet he wants me to begin to try to follow is a 2000 calorie diet with a focus on protein, not Atkins or anything close to it, but just making sure i get a good amount of good protein every day. I'm supposed to follow the basic guidelines they recommend(2000 calories spread out over 3 meals and 3 snacks, 2 of the snacks being low calorie/high protein shakes or bars), write down everything I eat for two weeks, and then meet with their nutritionist to see how I am feeling and adjust the diet to make it something easy for me to follow in a healthy fashion. For exercise I'm on the right path, starting slowly, and building up over the next month or two to where i have the endurance to get in a solid 30 minute workout, right now I'm just doing the same shit, parking far from the building at work, walking to get the mail whenever i go to check it, and using my exercise bike, even if I only use it for 5-6 minutes at a time, and slowly building up. My starting weight is a bit higher than my scale shows, but I'm also weighing in fully clothed. I've never been real happy with my scale, if I bump it and move it a 1/2 inch the weight registers 5-6 pounds different sometimes. Starting Weight (8/31): 360.4 |

Last week was tough, but very good. I didn't have a soda all week, and stuck to the goal of 2000 calories a day, I came in somewhere between 1800-2300 every day this week, and am still slowly ramping up the exercise. I'm not getting enough exercise on work days, and am working on that, but did great over labor day weekend. We're still working on the dosage of the appetite suppresant, they started me on the lowest dosage and I just felt like complete shit all weekend between cutting back on food and cutting out sodas. Doubling the dosage per the doctor after a check-in call on Tuesday helped quite a bit, as did beginning to adjust to no sodas. Hopefully next week will be as good!
Starting Weight (8/31): 360.4 Week 1 (9/8): 352.2 (-8.2) |

Only 6 days between weigh-ins this week, as I went to the doctor this morning to get an updated prescription. I didn't lose as much as I hoped I had, or thought I could, though I did lose weight this week so I shouldn't complain too much. My work schedule change has been a real tough adjustment and I'm not getting enough sleep most nights, and am tired when I get home and not exercising much at all on work days. My diet has been basically good, I think my primary focus right now needs to be maintaining the good things i'm doing as far as eating, and trying to get more sleep at night, and more exercise.

Going to revive this in hopes that it helps me. A friend of mine is getting married in May and I'd like to look my best for it (pick up some lonely chicks... *evil laugh*)
Background: I'm 5'10". I spent most of high school going between 160 and 185, in college it went up and down between 200 and 220 until my senior year and after I graduated when I went up to 240. I've been at around 230-240 since then (7+ years). I'm about to turn 30 and it's time I started really taking care of myself. I'm not young anymore. The Plan: Eat better. I don't eat a lot, and I think I have the regular meals down fine, but what I do eat after diner is very high in calories and probably filled with terrible stuff that kills my energy levels (after the shot of HFCS burns off) and will most likely kill me by the time I'm 40. 1) No more junk food. I love chocolate, but I have to cut that stuff out. For now on, low calorie yogurt, low calorie snack bars, fruit, etc (any suggestions on some good stuff to buy would be helpful). No more tastycakes, donuts, pop tarts... 2) No more soda or fast food. I've pretty much cut out soda, but I've replaced it with various flavors and types of Snapple, which while not as bad as soda, still has high fructose corn syrup and a lot of calories. I'm going to drink more water, less everything else. 3) Exercise. I've been doing this for awhile, but I'm going to up it a bit. For the last few months, I've been lifting 3 days a week, but I don't have a lot of weights. I've definitely noticed a change in my muscles but I need to buy more weights to start really buring those calories. I'm also going to start doing a few days of cardio a week. One problem with working out, though, is that I get migraines. I can not workout if I have a migraine. I tried once, and I'm not going to try again. After the first set, my head was hurting really bad, so that's out. Sometimes I get a migraine several times in a week, so occasionally they might kill my workout for the week. My Goal: I'll probably get a scale to see if I make any weight progress, but I'm not too concearned with it. Just as long as my energy levels get higher, my waist and gut get smaller, and I bring sexyback! |

woohoo, go sabotai! nice to have some company in here again
The last two weeks haven't been very good for me from any perspective, and stress and a lack of sleep have definitely impacted my eating habits. I overslept last Saturday and didn't get to go to the Dr for a weigh in, which is why I missed a week updating here. Today was my one month checkup w/ the Dr, and i have lost a little weight in the last two weeks, which surprised me. I had a good visit with the doctor, who adjusted my meds a little and we talked about the importance of a good night's sleep, he's been pushing me to get a sleep study done to see if I have sleep apnea. I need to get that done, for now i am just not sleeping enough straight out, but I may not be getting quality sleep when I am sleeping, my dad has sleep apnea and there is no reason to allow it to continue if I do have it, so I'm going to try to get that set up sometime soon. I also met with the nutritionist at this office for the first time today to go over where i've been struggling w/ the diet and how i can adjust things. One thing she told me that was interesting to me is that since i have high blood sugar and borderline(if not already) diabetes, that I should definitely be eating fruit, but not eating more than recommended on the diet plan they have(basically eating 2 pieces of fruit a day), and not eating fruit as a snack by itself, to always eat it as part of a snack/meal with some protein so I'm not just feeding myself sugar, even if its the good sugar in fruits. The appetite suppressant dosage was increased a bit b/c i told them that if I am not very diligent about eating my snacks in the morning I get *very* hungry by lunchtime. I really need to do a better job of spacing out my meals better, but if the appetite suppressants are working properly my body should be a little more forgiving than has been lately. Starting Weight (8/31): 360.4 Week 1 (9/8): 352.2 Week 2 (9/14): 349.2 (-11.2) Week 4 (9/28): 347.0 (-13.4) |

Last week was pretty good, I increased the intensity of my exercising just a little a couple days, going for a little longer and at a bit higher speed on the pedaler, I still need to get around to getting a heart rate monitor so i can attempt to optimize this a little, but I'm very happy with where i am now relative to September 1st.
I still had a couple days with some slipups where I was just starving when i left work for whatever reason, and am still working on that, but this was my best week since week 1, so I'm thrilled right now. Starting Weight (8/31): 360.4 Week 1 (9/8): 352.2 (-8.2) Week 2 (9/14): 349.2 (-11.2) Week 4 (9/28): 347.0 (-13.4) Week 5 (10/6): 342.4 (-18.0) |

Hi everyone. I've been a reader of this board for a long time and have only posted a few times. I'm bumping this thread up because I am curiuos to see how some of you have kept up with your weight loss and also to start tracking my own. Maybe even a few of you will start this also/again. This was a very inspiring thread and I hope putting down my goals will help me stick to them.
I'm 26 Yr old. I was in the army for 6 years and got out in summer of 06. I weighed 195 lbs when I got out (some post paternal sympathy weight) but usually around 185 lbs. I was a pack a day smoker but in pretty good shape. I've lived Miami for the last year and half and have had alot of things happen in my life since we moved here. My mom died of lung cancer in August and my mother-in-law was diagnosed with breast cancer(currently fighting it). We also had a car stolen. All these happened within 2 months. I'm sharing all that because I balloned up to about 216 lbs pretty quickly while barely noticing and I'm sure much of it was helped by the stress. I'm down a little weight by walking in the eveings, twice a week weight lifting and 3 days a week of Tae BO. Starting weight (12/25): 211 lbs Target weight: 190 lbs |

So I'm back on the wagon. Last time I posted, last summer, I got to the point where I was pretty much in the best shape of my life, but when school started in August I stopped going to the gym and starting eating crap. And since I knew I was going to start dieting and working out again in the new year, I ENJOYED the hell out of Thanksgiving and Christmas. I'm not in horrible shape, but I'm about 15 pounds over where I want to be.
I weighed myself for the first time in quite a while yesterday, and I was at 216.9. I also went to they gym for the first time in months and did some work on the treadmill and the eliptical machine. I'm going to do primarily cardio to get rid of the gut I've earned, and once I'm down to around 200 I'll start lifting again. Wish me luck! Beginning weight (1/9/08): 216.9

Weird...I KNOW I posted an update a couple of days ago. I wonder if I forgot to hit the submit button? :o
Anyways, my first week was pretty decent. I only went to the gym a couple of days because my knee, which hasn't bothered me in months, started hurting again after a couple days of treadmill/eliptical action. But aside from Sunday where I had some snacks during the Cowboys game and a fair amount of beer (though I did buy some, blech, Michelob Ultra Amber) I ate good foods, and smaller quantities of them... Beginning weight (1/9/08): 216.9 Week 1 (1/14/08): 213.6 (-3.3lbs) Total weight loss: 3.3lbs Not bad at all for one week!

Dunno why I haven't posted this in here, but since I went to the doctor back in late October and was 246 lbs I realized I needed to lose some significant weight.
As of the other day (before this sickness which interrupted my workout pattern), I was down to 227. Nice...slow and sustained (and hopefully sustainable) loss. Just portion control and things like...filling up on salad and not snacking on bad stuff, along with moderate exercise (2 miles a day on the treadmill at a speedwalkingish pace). |

Oh, guess it's customary to give some background
I've always been a "big" guy. The summer before I went off to college (well the winter+spring+summer) I had dieted (Weight Watchers) quite extensively and diligently and got myself down to ~178lbs. College came along and we know how that story went and I was back up to 200+ in very little time. Just kept gradually creeping up and creeping up. Lost 15lbs when we went to Peru in summer 06 on the Inca Trail and on that whole vacation, and was down around 215 or so after that. Well...the weight crept back up over time since then till I went to the doctor in Oct 08 as I said in my last post, and was at 246, and frankly that scared the fuck out of me. Because I was already FEELING like it was too much, but that really...made me commit to doing something about it. Some moderate exercise, eating intelligently and portion-control to shrink the stomach and I'm down to (here let me go weigh myself) 229 lbs (damn cold throwing off my working out). I'd like to see myself end up ~200 lbs. I know that the 180 that Weight Watchers and all the "your perfect body weight for your size" things say is too light a target for me to be able to maintain, but if I could be somewhere just under or around 2 bills that'd be great. I love food, so my weight is always going to yo-yo and it's always going to be a struggle for me. |
