I questioned why the pollsters left the Bucs out of the top 25, but it seems like they knew something. The loss of three starters from last year's squad is having more of an impact than I expected. Code:

The Cardinals are playing well, with their only losses coming against #5 Baylor and #22 Oklahoma State. However, their only quality win is against Eastern Illinois. Junior SG Phil Baum has stepped up nicely, with 16.1 ppg. Code:

Despite the heartbreaking loss to Lamar, the Panthers have had a solid start to the season. Most of their losses are against really good teams and they opened conference play with a double digit victory on the road. Doane (16.9 ppg) and Williams (15.5 ppg) had had terrific seasons so far. Code:

Interestingly, steals seems to have helped their offense more than their defense. They still give up just over 70 ppg, but the extra possessions created by turnovers has led them to the #4 offense in the nation. The bad defense was responsible for a late season loss to a terrible Stony Brook squad, which might have been the final nail in the coffin for their at large selection prospects. They will need to win the conference tourney. Code:

The only thing that can stop the Owls is themselves, as we saw in an ugly loss to a bad USC Upstate squad, where KSU shot 5 for 21 from 3 pt land. Other than that, they have had another impressive season behind Greenwald's 19.9 ppg and are considered to be a likely pick for an at large selection. Code:

In addition to adjusting to a new coach and the departure of three starters, the Bucs have dealt with numerous injuries. PG Hayes, C Evans, and SG Grillo have all missed significant time this season. Evans will be back in time for the conference tourney, but the other two are likely done for the season. Still, the Bucs have persevered and closed the season strong, winning 6 straight conference games to take the #1 seed in the conference tourney. They will need to win it to get back to the NCAA tourney. Code:

The Cards seemed to have finally put it together, opening with 7 straight conference wins. Then they reverted right back to mediocrity, including an appalling three game stretch where they lost by 19, 19, and 17 pts. The main culprit is an atrocious defense that allows 75.3 ppg. They will need to win their conference tourney. Code:

They seemed prime for a breakout season after their close loss to Lamar, but struggled in early conference play. Doane and Williams couldn't carry the team all by themselvers. However, they did close with an impressive 4 game run to hit .500 in conference once again. Code:

1st Round: (1) Hartford vs. (8) UMBC The Hawks have to fight to fend off a pesky UMBC team. With 9:53 left in the 2nd half, Hartford led 71-57 and was in complete control. With 39 seconds left, that lead had been cut to 76-75. UMBC's upset bid ends when they miss two crucial free throws when down by 3. Hartford hangs on for the victory. Code:
Semifinals: (1) Hartford vs. (5) Maine This one is never close. 6 Hawks players hit double digit points and three of them get double-doubles. Code:
Conference Championship: (1) Hartford vs. (3) Albany With a tourney berth on the line, 4 year starter PF Charles Flynt comes up huge with 19 pts and 11 rebounds as Hartford pulls away in the 2nd half. Hartford wins their automatic berth and is headed back to the NCAA tourney! Code:

1st Round: (1) Kennesaw State vs. (8) Florida Gulf Coast The Owls played sluggish to start and found themselves with an 11 pt halftime deficit, threatening another 1st round exit as a 1 seed. However, no lead is safe when KSU is involved. they came out firing in the 2nd half. FGCU still held a 61-59 lead with 5:17 left, but the Owls outscored them 20-9 the rest of the way. McCaslin had an amazing game to save the season. Code:
Semifinals: (1) Kennesaw State vs. (5) North Florida Despite an amazing 36 pt performance from UNF's C Corley, the Owls coasted in this one by hitting 18 3 pointers and outrebounding UNF 51-25. Code:
Conference championship: (1) Kennesaw State vs. (2) Lipscomb After getting through 1st round jitters, the Owls just dominated the conference tourney. This one was never close. What's interesting is how the Owls won. They had an off shooting night from range, but hit 24 of 27 free throws and forced 21 turnovers. Code:

1st Round: (9) Portland State vs. (8) Northern Colorado Portland State decides to show up for the tourney for a change. They pull away late in the 2nd half thanks to a huge rebounding effort from C Wilson and SG Tolman, combining for 24 rebounds. The defense came up big in the stretch, forcing several stops to preserve the lead. Code:
2nd Round: (9) Portland State vs. (1) North Dakota Where has this Vikings team been all year long? They once again win the rebounding battle, as PF Dwain Gordon has an amazing 17 rebounds. They also got to the free throw line 25 times compared to UND's 5. Down 9 with 1:13 left, North Dakota was able to cut the lead to 4, but the Vikings hit their free throws down the stretch to score a huge upset. Code:

Conference Championship: (9) Portland State vs. (10) Northern Arizona Yep, that's right. Portland State's reward for upsetting multiple teams is getting to face an even lower seed in the championship, as Northern Arizona knocked off the 2 and 3 seeds. The Vikings led most of the way behind precise shooting (.574) and once again dominating the boards (38-28). Northern Arizona never got closer than 7 in the 2nd half and the Vikes pull off a major achievement and are headed to the NCAA tourney!!! Code:

2nd Round: (1) Charleston Southern vs. (8) Radford The Bucs held Radford to .333 shooting and only 13 1st half points as they built a 26-13 halftime lead. Radford never got within single digits. Big game from Karl Mertz. Code:
Semifinals: (1) Charleston Southern vs. (5) Coastal Carolina The Bucs built another huge halftime lead, 32-16 this time. However, Coastal didn't give up and found a way to narrow the leas to 38-36 with 1:01. But the Bucs defense stiffened, forced a few turnovers, leading to an 8-2 run to close out the game. Another solid effort from Mertz. Code:
Conference Championship: (1) Charleston Southern vs. (10) Gardner Webb The Bucs found themselves in an 8 pt halftime deficit against an upstart Gardner Webb squad. And it wasn't looking good as neither team scored for the first 4:13 of the 2nd half. But the Bucs defense created turnovers on three consecutive possessions that led to points, keying a 12-0 run to take the lead. It's a tight battle the rest of the way, and Gardner Webb retakes the lead with 21 seconds left. They foul Freshman C Jacques Evans with no time left on the clock, but he only makes 1 free throw to send it to OT. A gassed Gardner Webb can't keep up in OT and the Bucs pull away for a 10 pt victory. Code:

(2) Lamar vs. (7) Incarnate Word Incarnate Word came back from a 2nd half double digit deficit to tie the game at 62 with 6:39 left. But a 15-4 run, with 8 of those points coming on free throws, helped Lamar put the game away for good. Code:
Conference Championship: (2) Lamar vs. (1) Northwestern State It was a tightly contested game and Lamar found themselves down 70-69 with 2:07 left. However, they miss three straight shots as Northwestern State goes on an 8-0 run. Lamar quickly battles it back to a 4 pt lead, but time is their enemy and Northwestern State hits their free throws down the stretch. Despite being the first FOFC team to make the NCAA tourney several seasons ago, Lamar has still failed to make a return appearance Code:

2nd Round: (5) Prairie View A&M vs. (4) Jackson State Rolland Doane had a big night with 22 pts and 6 rebounds, but he received very little help from his teammates. Jackson State held a 70-68 lead with 4:05 remaining and failed to score over the next 3 and a half minutes. Unfortunately, the Panthers squandered this opportunity as they couldn't score either. Jackson State finally breaks through with 30 seconds left and the Panthers don't have enough time left for a comeback. Code:

I believe it reduces the amount of fouls you commit, but doesn't impact the number that you draw.

Play-in Round (16) Portland State vs. (16) UC Riverside The Vikings dominated most of the game thanks to another great performance from PF Dwain Gordon (10 pts, 15 rebounds). Taking a 15 pt lead at halftime, they held it for most of the 2nd half until UC Riverside mounted a late comeback to tie it at 64 with 4:17 left. SG Andrew Crook hit two 3 pointers to key an 11-2 run and put the game away. The Vikings have made the round of 64! Code:

Team:#21 Kennesaw State AD: law90026 Head Coach: Jefferson Mizell (8 Rec, 21 Sct, 91 Off, 100 Def) Recruiter: Andrea Baker (53 Rec) Scout: Noe Wardlaw (37 Sct) Assistant: Carmelo Cusick (50 Off, 55 Def) Team Budget: $238,875 AD Expectations: Win the conference championship. Key Returning Players:SG Erick Greenwald, PG Brian McCaslin Key Incoming Players: C Richard Casey, PF Brendan Borja Prestige: 38 (+7) Outlook: The Owls will miss SF Joe Sims, but they return SG Erick Greenwald and PG Brian McCaslin, two top notch players who will put up a bevy of pts. Is there enough depth behind them? The Owls are also missing defense in the post, an area opponents are sure to exploit. Code:

Team: Portland State AD: Young Drachma Head Coach: Hilton Starks (21 Rec, 40 Sct, 68 Off, 51 Def) Recruiter: Barton Kerrigan (33 Rec) Scout: Chris Burris (33 Sct) Assistant: James Manchester (27 Off, 34 Def) Team Budget: $207,367 AD Expectations: Finish with at least a .500 conference record Key Returning Players:C Jonathan Wilson, PG Charles Price, PG Terrence Todd, SF Jan Sessions Key Incoming Players: SG Michale Lewellen, SG William Lamb Prestige: 15 (+9) Outlook: The Vikings just finished a dream season after a miracle run through the conference tournament. The hero of that tournament, Charles Price, is back, along with C Jonathan Wilson. Both played less than 30 mpg last season, but the addition of stamina should allow them stay on the court much more. They actually received some votes in the top 25 poll, a far cry from where they once were. Code:

Team:#15 Charleston Southern AD: Breeze Head Coach: Isiah Molina (61 Rec, 22 Sct, 100 Off, 37 Def) Recruiter: Gilbert Towner (36 Rec) Scout: Elmer Orth (38 Sct) Assistant: Kelvin Emrick (46 Off, 25 Def) Team Budget: $231,562 AD Expectations:Win the conference championship Key Returning Players: PG Alphonse Hayes, C Jared Brown, C Jacques Evans, SG Gregory Grillo Key Incoming Players: PG Bruce Henry, SF Charles Gilstrap Prestige: 35 (+10) Outlook: The Bucs are so far the only FOFC team to win a tourney game and they've done it twice. They almost made the Sweet 16, but were cut down on a buzzerbeater. The good news is they return all 5 starters from last year's squad. The bad news is they don't have a ton of young talent coming in. Code:

Team:#3 Lamar AD: Chas in Cinti Head Coach: Andrew Roberts (50 Rec, 72 Sct, 68 Off, 10 Def) Recruiter: Seth Barto (40 Rec) Scout: Wayne Shepard (37 Sct) Assistant: Aron Nimmons (25 Off, 34 Def) Team Budget: $230,000 AD Expectations: Win the conference championship. Key Returning Players: SG Phil Baum, C Odis Phelan, C Nickolas Winegar, PG Mauricio Alonso Key Incoming Players: SF Dewayne Wells, SG Dennis Hearne Prestige: 32 (+3) Outlook: It's been the same story for several seasons now. The pollsters love Lamar in the preseason, but they never live up to that promise. They have failed to get back to the NCAA tourney since their first trip, which is now 5 seasons ago. Once again, they are #3 in the nation and return 4 starters. It's time to live up to the promise. Code:

Team: Prairie View A&M AD: rjolley Head Coach: Lamar Tetrault (65 Rec, 42 Sct, 47 Off, 26 Def) Recruiter: Michael Levinson (33 Rec) Scout: Norbert Starkey (33 Sct) Assistant: Chris Soto (32 Off, 29 Def) Team Budget: 177,937 AD Expectations: Finish with at least a .500 conference record Key Returning Players: PF Herman Freitas, SG Rodrick Wray, PG Jeffrey Keith Key Incoming Players: SG Scott Marshall Prestige: 13 (+6) Outlook: The Panthers have been hovering around .500 for 4 seasons now. They should be ready for a breakthrough, with their new expertise at blocking shots. That alone should be enough to put them at or near the top of a weak SWAC, but can they get to the dance? They will sorely be missing PG Neal Williams and SG Rolland Doane. Code:

#24 Hartford (9-3, 1-0), RPI: 27th
Back to back losses knocked the Hawks out of the top 25, but they climbed back in by winning 6 of 7. They have 4 players averaging 13.8 ppg or more and the team has hit triple digits 5 times already. Code:

Kennesaw State (11-5, 0-0), RPI: 9th
Greenwald has moved to SF and is averaging 22.5 ppg. The Owls have a great RPI due to a challenging schedule, but too many losses to stay in the top 25. Code:

Portland State (5-6, 0-0), RPI: 45th
Despite the same start as last season, there are signs they are much improved. They have a very good RPI and a nice upset win over #22 Gonzaga. The extra stamina is allowing C Jonathan Wilson to play 34.0 mpg and he's making the best of it by averaging a double double (14.0 ppg, 10.0 rpg). Code:
