Ugh, worst possible outcome for somebody who hates both these programs. At least if Bama goes down and scores on the last 2 drives the refs won’t have made the difference.

So, Texas should be ranked next week, no? Has any team debuted into the top 25 after a loss?

Until they meet GA (and the Hogs) of course

It's enough for AL to be shown to be beatable.

Let's see if the Texas O can limp down the field for some points.

Welp, that was a pipe dream.

Rooting for #21 BYU to beat #9 Baylor to make room for #16 Hogs.

EDIT: okay, SC is doing a good job against our secondary now. Just a tad early to be playing prevent defense IMO.

Oh man.

Bumper Pool got the SC onside kick and was running in for a TD. He's a little slow though. That was fun.

Up 35-24 with 6:18 left.

Not sure playing for the field goal and going out of bounds on first down were the best moves there. We'll see what they've got for third down.

Kicker gets Sark out of jail. That was a spectacularly bad third down call.

Way too much time left. They need a big play on defense here.

I don't know what would have worked better when all three interior linemen and the blocking back were laying on the ground.

Not having your crippled backup QB run a straight drop back pass play in the first place?

It's a play designed to let the defensive line close in. Probably not the best play call when he's gimpy and Alabama is going to hit the gaps to make sure the run has to go outside anyway.

Not sure about the TO there. There’s 15 seconds left for you to go down and win it. Poor decision.

Good game. Texas exceeded expectation and softened up the Tide for the rest of the SEC games.

The reason that guys like Saban and Belichick are the greatest is that their teams always know how to execute situational football. Down by two with a certain amount of time left & a certain amount of time outs? We got this. We know how to get down and get a field goal. We’re going to do it.

Bowling shoe ugly, Bama will almost certainly drop to #2 (and anybody else might fall to #3)

Ohio State's win over ND won't look nearly as good if Marshal continues to hang in there with the Irish however

I still think it was more about poor execution. The TE looked open, but the center had no blockers actually blocking anyone.

Sark wasn't thinking ahead when they got that opportunity. At any point in the last four minutes, you have to have some idea of the chess matches you might be playing. That's every bit as important as the preparation that goes into a game plan. The play calls once they got in field-goal range were defensive and left the door open for a great quarterback.

If I had to guess, this will be the only game Bama plays like this for the rest of the season. Watch for blow outs going forward.
I do wish I was a gambling man. I felt like that line was crazy.

No, not based on this one game. They also went toe-to-toe with eventual national champion LSU in 2019 and finished the season unranked.

Anyone using a good, timely web site with all the scores and play by play? I've been using NCAA.com for more than a decade now, but they did a redesign for this year and whatever raw feed that comes in - whoever redesigned it isn't reading it properly. Some simple stuff you can get used to like assigning interceptions to the wrong team and including return yards (kicks, punts, interceptions) with total offense. But the play-by-play is a mess.

I mostly just use ESPN dot com for that, used to use CBS the same way.

From what I've gathered the issue with a lot of the wonky shit is due to GIGO.

The number of people able to capably & reliably use the software (which I believe is common across the board with all levels of the NCAA now) is probably smaller than the number of people needed to do it.

(I recognize quite a few of the mistakes from my own experiences with stat tracking software, which is basically what generates the pbp)

Miami got it together in the 2nd half, but still definitely an underwhelming performance.

The fact is you can’t win in modern college football without a strong QB. How Notre Dame hasn’t been able to get one in so long is amazing to me.

Edit: The fact that these guys thought Buchner was the answer blows my mind. He has NEVER looked like a CFB QB. Not really once. I can’t believe they didn’t try to get a QB in the portal.

They've had Ian Book and Jack Coan over the last few seasons - both were quite decent and are in the NFL player pool, though not starting material.

You can excuse going into Columbus with an inexperienced QB against all that talent and fizzling out. Today... the quarterback play was hard to fathom. That should have been an easy victory. They don't have the luxury of waiting for Lloyd Carr's grandson to arrive on campus.

It's been two years since Buchner played a meaningful game at any level. That 81-touchdown season in high school (53 passing, 28 rushing) was a long time ago, and I'm surprised they didn't have someone else coached up in case he failed.

Meanwhile, Wisconsin needs a new kicker. Two really dreadful efforts, and they're in some danger of losing at home to a not-that-good Washington State team. All of a sudden, Ohio State's killer early schedule is looking somewhat mediocre.

I really like Marcus Freeman, but he has to get things together ASAP or he'll be lucky to last more than a year.
