Holy hell the Bruins collapsed (and the Habs came back) tonight. They need Iginla for sure.

Well THIS was unexpected.
Calgary Flames trade Jarome Iginla to Pittsburgh Penguins - 2013 Trade Deadline

Apparently it was Iginlas choice.

Woke up about 2:30 with a message from the Penguins...holy shit

The most amazing part of the past 72 hours, Ray Shero gave up a total of 0 roster players.

As a Rangers fan I'm happy about this. We can't beat Pittsburgh anyway, might as well keep Iginla from improving any of the other teams in the East.

When it comes to power forwards, the Penguins do have a history of coming in late and undercutting the Bruins.

Bravo sir.

Tyler Kennedy is probably available if teams are looking for a winger

I normally enjoy the Penguins and generally cheer for them over many other teams in the playoffs, but this year I will be hoping they lose in the first round. This feels a bit ridiculous and I hope it blows up on them.

I was all ready to say I am happy the Jets are in the playoffs at this point, but now...

No, honestly, I can understand the sentiment. I'm hoping, at least a little, that people will be able to look past the irrational Crosby hate (not necessarily in your case), and be happy for Iggy. How great would a Sakic --> Bourque re-do with Crosby --> Iginla with the Cup?

Edit: Honestly, I am happy for the Jets. I like a ton of players on that team, led by Burmi.

It's hard to hate Iginla because generally I like the way he plays the game and seems a decent fellow, but I've never liked Calgary, so I don't have much love for "Iggy."

Not sure how Iginla compares to Borque really. While Iginla is a great player, he's nowhere near what Borque was at his time.

Great set of forwards for Pittsburg: Kunitz, Neal, Iginla, Dupuis, Crosby, Malkin and Morrow. I don't think any team can match those top six.

I think it's a slam dunk move for PIT, but I'm still a bit surprised by this thought that it makes them a lock to come out of the East. Should they be the favorite? Absolutely. But I don't remember a lack of quality forward play being the reason they fell to Philly in the 1st round last year. The defense and Fleury will always be the question marks once we get to the playoffs.

Fleury is still the key.

Even when they were the hot pick this time last year when Crosby returned, they were winning 8-5, 6-3. Now they are winning 2-1, 1-0.

They've given up 9 goals in the past 9 games. 26 during the 13 games winning streak.

As big as the Pens getting him is, added bonus is Boston didn't.

Edit: Honestly, I am happy for the Jets. I like a ton of players on that team, led by Burmi.

I really like Crosby, he's the main reason I enjoy watching the Pens. He is a phenomenal player and people who gripe about him remind me of how I used to feel about Gretzky back in the day. I hated Gretzky for years, which made sense given the Jets history against the Oil, but it wasn't until late in his career that I grew up and realised I had basically shut my eyes to the greatness that as a once-in-a-generation player. With that experience in the rear view I am much more open to appreciating talents even if they stand in the way of teams or players that I like even more.

All that said, I am not a huge fan of the rental-player concept, and I have always felt like the Bourque-to-Colorado thing was an abomination. But usually I don't really care about the deadline attempts to win because the team gives up a tonne to make it happen, or they just get one guy. But the Pens just got both Morrow and Iginla, along with the Shark d-man, and gave up very little in return. It just feels kind of lame and I hope it backfires.

Crosby news: Jaw not wired shut. Titanium plate in jaw.

Right now saying "indefinitely". Best guess is 3+ weeks minimum, maybe try and get him in the last 1 or 2 regular reason games (Penguins end season 4/27).

Sure, this is partially years of sour grapes, but wouldn't want him in Pittsburgh. But he's exactly what the Bruins needed, especially on the PP

Conditional 2nd (could become a first if Bruins go deep in playoffs) is a heavy price though - I hope they plan on resigning him (he's a FA after this year right?).

NHL picks are worth the least in pro sports. In the nineties only 25% of second round picks played significant time in the NHL.

Big contract.

Great skater.

Can log a ton of minutes.

Can be soft defensively, but has some offensive punch that went largely dormant while he was in Calgary.

Has never played a single playoff game.

Clowe to the Rangers for a 2nd and 3rd this year and a conditional 2nd next year.

Overall, I like what the Sharks have done. It's not a total rebuild, but should definitely let them restock their farm system. They seem to have gotten pretty good return on all three of the parts they shipped out.

The goal differentials in the SE are nuts--the ordering is Tampa, Washington, Carolina, Winnipeg, and Florida. (?!?)

I thought there was a good chance Gaborik could get moved at the draft this year, as they weren't going to bring him back at the same price after 13/14 and I figured he could bring back a fairly high pick. I know Brassard is looked at as a good young center, which we desperately need, and Moore is an intriguing young D-man who's a strong skater but still thought he would have brought back more.

HFboards has Martin Erat to Caps for Filip Forsberg.

Nothing with Buffalo.

Forsberg was seen as a great prospect. Must be something that he fell in the draft, and now being moved for a solid but unspectacular player.
