Hill catches it on the 3 yd line or so but is ruled OOB.
edit to add: And he's hurt, holding his back after landing funny. Doesn't look super serious but it stops play.

sitting here with my brother - neither of us understand why stanford ran that in - they could kneel it multiple times and kill the game and kick the winning FG and not give notre dame a possession - now the karma gods will ensure that ND hits a TD and gets a 2pt conversion and wins
fucking stupid play...wtf???

Don't forget the USC-UCLA game on Fox Sports It's been a defensive battle as expected. USC had a chance to go up 14-0 a bit ago, but Barkley threw a bad pick. USC still up 7-0. |

GT was lucky, Georgia actually intercepted that pass OOB.

it'll be great if stanford wins, but i just don't understand why you'd make that play when you've effectively got the game over - to win by 7 instead of win by 3? woopie doo

Tough day for the ACC w/ both division champs going down to 7-5 SEC teams. It will be odd that the two reps for the ACC title game will probably be ranked below VPI and Miami in the polls.

Notre Dame's six losses were by: 4, 7, 2, 5, 3 (OT), 7.
They also had wins by: 3, 3, 7 (OT), and 4. That must have made for a stressful season for ND fans. |

I think your being to critical DT. Just because MJD did it in a game doesn't mean it should be the norm now, especially in college where special teams are unpredictable.

I can't really recall any loss more ... disturbing ... in 42 years.
It reveals a very ugly truth in bright bold colors: as far as football is concerned the ACC doesn't belong in the same league with the SEC or in the same sentence with the words "major conference". I can't think of any rational defense (that doesn't involve $$$) for it having a guaranteed BCS bid at this point. I still don't have any doubt that GT is the best team in the conference right now over the course of a 12 game season, problem is that doesn't equate with being a top tier team. All the Jackets, or Clemson, do at this point is cheapen the Orange Bowl by being there.

Did one of the teams in the USC/UCLA game have to give up one of their TO's so they both could wear their home Uni's tonight or did that thing get corrected?

Meanwhile, my son is seeking consolation by playing Borderlands.
I'll spare you the commentary, suffice to say that the various enemies seem to be wearing red & black in his eyes at the moment. To most people the use of a rocket launcher on a single already dying enemy might seem like overkill but right now, not so much so.

Yup. Disappointing season, I don't even place as much blame on Weis as a lot of people do. The defense sucked and they fumbled the ball too often in a number of these close games. I know 6-6 is a bad record for ND and it's probably a sign of lowered expectations but all of the losses were close and it was an entertaining although unsuccessful season, maybe I'd be madder if I had bought into the preseason hype of the team possibly going 10-2. If it weren't for the crappy TD% in the red zone after about the halfway point through the season I'd advocate ND getting new defensive staff rather than a new head coach. He'll be fired anyway, it doesn't matter what I think. I don't know who the best plausible replacement would be (considering that I feel Meyer and Stoops to be unrealistic) not knowing much about what Kelly has to deal with at Cincinnatti in terms of facilities/academics but hopefully they get it right this time. Well played Stanford, I hope Gerhart or Spiller (or anyone other than McCoy/Tebow really) wins the Heisman. |

I have been saying for some time that ND on a national level is irrelevant. I think the Big Ten is going through some of the same issues. ND can't be a 8 win team. They have to be 10 wins at worst and start to deal with USC on a consistent enough basis to where ND would actually be favored. It's going to take a lot from whomever they bring in to do that. It's only their own egos that they keep trying to deem themselves on a different level than everybody else. I'm all for them sucking until NBC, or whoever finds out it's not worth it to sign a deal to show ND games anymore. Quote:
Absolutely the guy I hate hearing the most. He's been over the top for years. I swear one MSU/U of M game he was boasting about a MSU player so much he was pretty much comparing him to just about anybody whoever played the position.

I actually disagree with Herbstreit somewhat. Their offense should have been good enough for them to be relevant this year, but the defense was worse than expected and the coaching was pretty bad.
If they get somebody in who can recruit the defensive side of the ball at the level that Weis recruited the offensive side, and get a good, experienced staff behind him, I think ND can become relevant again real fast. The idea of Kelly at ND scares the crap out of me. |

Even though I agree with what he is saying, watching it I couldnt help but feel it was corporate speak coming straight from an ESPN PR/Marketing guy. BTW John, I understand showing the games is not a conflict of interest, however having your employees vote may be. I guess I just miss the integrity that once upon a time would have led a corporation to have its employees refrain from voting just to put themselves beyond reproach. |

Yes, they would, but I would be curious to see how many people would continue to watch mediocre football when a network could sign on to fill that spot with a Pac 10 game of the week instead. I get Big Ten and SEC games as is. Toss me a Pac 10, or Big 12 game in there and I'll watch that many times over a ND game.

The question might be where they'll be showing them, as they're rumored to be bound for Versus if Comcast completes an acquisition of NBC Universal. The ratings this year have been a mixed bag, with the USC game being the most watched in 3 years (4.5 rtg) and the WSU game being one of the least watched games in their history (1.3 rtg, worse only than Nevada earlier this year and a 1.2 against Duke a few years back) But there's definitely a decline from the 6's they drew what now seems like a very long time ago.
